Re: Trading in my mac - 18 years agoQuadra 840 AV? (Drool) Remember how badass those machines were in their time?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: mp3s @44.1K to 48K - 18 years agoNo real excuse for using MP3 audio. Get the REAL audio from an original source. Napster? Pfffft whatever.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Scrolling Text Problem - 18 years agoYou ARE checking this on a pro NTSC or PAL video monitor, aren't you?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Rendering Resolution - 18 years agoCheck out your RT Pop up Menu. The article lacks a couple of important things about that: You should be in Safe RT and NOT Unlimited RT. You should also be in Full Playback mode and NOT Dynamic RT. Also, even though you do not have Green Bars, you should still see if you can render the pieces at full quality. Make sure the DARK GREEN bar that says "FULL" has been checked. If it has not,by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: FCP not launching - 18 years agoAlso trash your FCP prefs and .plistsby Kevin Monahan - Café LA re: OT -- A little thanks to Jude Cotter - 18 years agoTrish and Chris Meyer are the ones I learned it from.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Speed Change Without Ripple Effect - 18 years agoEverywhere else I have music, tone, dialogue, titles -- and loads of other stuff in the way that would have been easier to adjust if FCP had let me do it myself. Not necessarily. Yours is the case of going back to an earlier edit decision and making a pretty significant change. This "change" in FCP acts like an insert edit, IOW, it will affect the rest of your timeline as any other inby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: The nerve - 18 years agoSounds like the beginnings of a reality show, "Editors - How LOW will they go?"by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: OT, am i just a bonehead? - 18 years agoI'm an Apple 3 man, myself. Yes, this should be a user preference in OS X for sure.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Capture and play back/ dropped frames - 18 years agoJust use the standard DV NTSC Preset. But change the device control to FireWire Basic. Keep your clips short, if you can. Long clips are SATAN with a Canon.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: tv screen vs projected frame - 18 years agoProjection tends to show the whole frame. If you are editing for TV, you should always cut with a video monitor attached to your system. Action Safe is different for every monitor as well. I find it odd that people don't edit with a proper video monitor.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: audio sync in timeline - 18 years agoMake sure you are monitoring properly. Audio speakers and video monitor plugged into deck or camcorder. Only then can you check TRUE synch.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: importing JPEGS- blurry when played on timeline/exported?!? - 18 years agoHow often do we see this problem? Every day? This should definitely be in the FAQ. The main problems people have are: A) Not understanding how RT Extreme works. B) Not monitoring properly C) Not optimizing images in Photoshop prior to import D) Using lossy JPEGS instead of PICT, PSD or TIFF Here's the solution: 1) Make sure that you are rendered at Full Quality prior to checking playback on yoby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: simple title questions - 18 years agoEileen, Please don't take this too personally but...you should probably take a certified class to familiarize yourself better with the entire app. Hunting around in the manual should then be only an occasional occurence as an hour is way too long to search for a single item. BTW, did you know that the manual comes as a PDF that is searchable? I can find any issue in seconds, literally. Good luby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: capturing live video in FCP - 18 years agoAt least have a tape backup chum.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: 2nd monitor crashes my g5 - 18 years agoYou mention a new video card, this is likely the cause for your trouble. Here's what I would do: 1) Remove the video card. 2) Install the drivers for the card with the card removed. 3) Shut down 4) Reinstall the card Had to do this recently for a wireless card in my PC and in the past when I got a new video card for my old FCP 3 setup.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: still image interlacing - again - 18 years agoI can tell you that the scaling and rotation algorithm was not that great in the FCP 3-4.5 era. With FCP 5, you've got drastically improved scaling and rotation in your rendered effects.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Still Image Sequence - 18 years agoGood suggestions from Derek. Don't forget the whole gaggle of transitions you have there as well.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Odd FCP Capture Issue - 18 years agoThere is no real visible difference capturing DV via S-Video vs. FireWire in my experience. Ever do a side by side comparison? Comes in handy sometimes to do this if you have mixed footage or want to work in 8 bit or 10 bit for your graphics, etc. But as all have pointed out, DV via FireWire is simpler to deal with and gives smaller file sizes.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: AE effects error, Title Crawl Not working - 18 years agoIn FCP 4-5, Title 3D and Title Crawl were not auto-installed. YOU have to install them yourself. Install Disk>Extras Folder>Boris Calligraphy.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Slightly OT: Export to Pro Tools - 18 years agoIf you want to retain all the levels adjustments in ProTools, then yes, you do need the duck.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: FCP to PowerPoint - 18 years agoKeynote works so much better with FCP.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: External Firewire Enclosures - 18 years agoI get no name enclosures for $30. Just Froogle it and make sure you've got: A) FireWire B) Oxford Bridge 911 C) Internal Fan D) A nice Seagate or Hitachi drive. You'll be good to go! Cheap and works as well as any other FW Drive.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Ulimited RT limit - 18 years agoA) Increase the RAM cache setting. B) Optimize the images in Photoshop prior to importing them into FCP. Most people don't optimize images in PS anymore. A shame really, 'cause if you make them large enough, but not too large and at 72 DPI...you'll have much more RT w/o sacrificing the cache.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: timeline acting strange SOLUTION! - 18 years agoThat's an oldie but a goodie. Losing thumbnails usually happens when you move your clips from one drive to another w/o using the media manager.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: audio source button gone... - 18 years agoLoad clips into the Viewer before you drag and drop or using F9-F10.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: DVD skipping frustration - 18 years agoAt the duplicator down the street, they have a machine which "grades" your encode from A-F. If you get an A or B, you can burn. If you get a lower score, you can at least re-encode and try again.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Renders Better in FCP 5 V. 4.5? - 18 years agoI think scaling quality is better in 5.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Film Sprocket & Burnt Film Effects - 18 years agoYes, ArtBeats Film Clutter.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Audio out of sinc... - 18 years agoUse the FireWire DV Out and monitor audio from the deck/camcorder and NOT the built in. This is a common problem if I am reading you right.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA |
