While capturing, no.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Audio running in sync on camera but out of sync in FCP - 14 years agoSounds like the footage was shot at 29.97. Can you double check that?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: getting black image, can hear sound - 14 years agoYou in Wireframe Mode?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Animated Pix jittery in FCP - 14 years agoJoey, I can understand that you say it "sucks" if not composited in AE, etc. You are a motion graphics guy and tend to stay away from FCP except for playout. Yes? Personally, I stay in FCP as long as possible until I am forced to go to AE/Motion. Nowadays, usually Motion. Editors are more apt to behave this way and I see nothing wrong with doing basic fx in FCP (like basic moves onby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Animated Pix jittery in FCP - 14 years agoSequence > Render > Full. Also, monitor your work on an external video monitor, not the computer monitor. Optimize your imagery as well, make them no more than twice the native frame size.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: OT - Got a PowerPC Mac: prepare to say good-bye - 14 years agoMike, Take it down to the Apple Store. I think they replace the Motherboards for you if you can prove that the leaking coolant fried your innards. It's free too.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Better school other than USC and Video symphony?" - 14 years agoI went to Video Symphony and even taught FCP there and it's a great school. That is, if you want purely technical training. You won't learn how to write a screenplay or learn anything about film history, etc. there as you would in film school. My opinion is that you should look into both academic and technical training. To be a good editor, you really need a well rounded education: technical aby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Any solution to uneven titles scrolling at the end of the movie? - 14 years agoC'mon guys! Three words: BORIS TITLE CRAWLby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Need an experienced editor to advise on workflow - 14 years agoShoot 24 and leave the Canon 5Ds out of the workflow and rent two more HVXs. Much smoother workflow and not much more cost. Why use a bleeding edge acquisition format when you can use a proven workflow? Whose idea is that anyway? Doesn't sound like you Dan.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Exporting single clip from timeline? - 14 years agoAlso: Make sure your track is Auto-Selected before doing a Mark Clip. Otherwise, it won't set In/Out points on the proper track.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: .psd shifts on fade - 14 years agoHi Nick, I always use opacity fades when things don't look right with transitions. I've seen it before.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: FCP sequence to iMovie- Best Practice? - 14 years agoWhy not export from FCP?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: .psd shifts on fade - 14 years agoFade with opacity instead of a transition.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Audio drift/out of sync on self contained quicktime files. - 14 years agoHave the client play the file off an external disk.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Canon 5D MkII h.264 HD video for FCP: best Sequence Preset? - 15 years agoI don't like that method. It's better to transcode the footage to ProRes and work with ProRes. Less lossy method of compression. Takes up too much storage? Oh Boo Hoo.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro w/Sony XDCAM - 15 years agoYou need an Intel Mac. I use the Sony Log and Transfer plug-in. Works great!by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: The joys of XDCAM EX.... - 15 years agoTry the Log and Transfer Plug In rather than XDCAM transfer. Click on the Erase Pane at the top of the Window. Click on the drive in the left column. If it is MS-DOS (FAT32) formatted instead of Mac OS Extended (HFS+) as it should be, this could at the heart of your problem. Create a Post It Note in Photoshop. Use the page peel transition. 2. Create a fake sign in Photoshop. Add the clip and the sign graphic to a Motion Project. Use a Tracking Behavior on the Sign. Track the Power Line. Try a Wind Simulation behavior or the like to move it. Or do it in After Effects with similar techniques. The second effect is not a simple one to pull off for a novice,by Kevin Monahan - Motion Re: Explode video transition - 15 years agoExplode is an old QuickTime Effect and an old timer. Better to stay away from that bundle of filters as most of them have been duplicated. The important ones anyway. Explode is probably only less cheesy than the "Jaws" wipe, so maybe that's why it hasn't been ported to fxplug yet. My suggestion? Find a better transition. Explode is just horrible.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Proper Device Preset for capturing 24Pa - 15 years agoUse the camcorder the piece was shot on. I have had to do this with Canon devices before.
