Re: $999 FCP to Avid Symphony crossgrade offer - 12 years agoThank you for your input Strypes. Greatly appreciated. You bring up some interesting points. I am strictly an editor who just cuts. I don't perform color correcting/finishing - not my bag. So I guess it doesn't make sense for me to purchase symphony other than having the boris effects. Not sure if that is worth me spending an additional 500 especially when you bring up the unknown upgrade cby Jeff C - Avid Media Composer Re: $999 FCP to Avid Symphony crossgrade offer - 12 years agoI am not even "brand new" to Avid. Getting ready to take classes at video symphony at the end of the month. I have MC 5.5 because of the crossgrade deal due to FCP X. Question: Do I spend the 500 bucks to upgrade to MC 6 or do I purchase Avid symphony for $1000. Don't know what the difference between the two are. I typically cut Indie features and docs. We just won the Gotham Independent Audience Choice Award!!! Still shocked and in disbelief. Nick, That is really cool! Congrats to you!!!by Jeff C - Café LA OT: Incredible montage of the films of 2011 - 12 years agoReally wanted to share this with you guys. This is one of the best montages that I have ever seen. This was edited by a gentleman by the name of Matt Shapiro. Hats off sir, very well done. Thanks for including our film Girlfriend into the mix. Very inspiring and very well done!!!!!by Jeff C - Café LA Re: Multicam Help - 12 years agoTrue, I learned to map "open sequence" to a shortcut to make that part a little faster. I am also hoping that it is good on avid. still have yet to dive into that program.by Jeff C - Café LA Re: Multicam Help - 12 years ago1. thank you for responding so fast!!!! 2. no it isn't rendered. good thinking on your part though. I just literally tried something and it seems to "refresh the multicam" just like refreshing a/v devices. I went into the sequence and collapsed the multicam clips then uncollapsed them. I brought the MTS files into Premier and exported them as ProRes and then brought them into FCP. Took a bit longer but it worked. Haven't used Premier yet so I don't really know my way around like I do in FCP. (Well not yet anyways.) ClipWrap may be faster but I had a problem using the trial version. "there will still be a LOT of trouble shooting, but if you finish the edit first, no double handling." Good point!!! "wouldn't you have been better off simply re-sizing a copy of the jpg? or was the 2k size needed for a blow-up?" Typically yes but there was a lot of animation done so it was easier to export and make it into a clip rather than cby Jeff C - Café LA Re: Mixed Media Disaster - 13 years agoThank you guys so much for responding. This has been an up hill battle. I told them that this needs to be addressed ASAP! Their mentality was... lets finish the edit get a locked picture and then worry about it. Not my way of doing business. The frustrating part is that because their editor decided to make short cuts they expect me to do the same. I have been in rendering hell. Paid in cash!by Jeff C - Café LA Re: Flickering/Stuttering Playback From Timeline - 13 years agoDana you are correct in the fact that it happens less if you leave auto save on. I also noticed that it didn't do it as much if I left my windows on one screen in "standard view". Still this is unacceptable and I don't know what to do. I have had this happen on several MacPros and I have been in and out of the apple store. I don't know what to do. I had the same issue with my last computer (MacPro) and now with my new computer. I migrated all my footage and media onto my laptop and there are NO issues. It must be a MacPro thing. Thanks!!!by Jeff C - Avid Media Composer Can Avid coexist with FCP on same system drive? - 13 years agoHey Guys and Gals, Just purchased my copy of Avid. (Don't know a single thing about the program) Wanted to know if I should have a separate system drive for Avid or can I install it on my current drive now which also has FCP on it? Would love to have both programs on the same drive for my 17' Macbook Pro and my Mac Pro Desktop. Stick with ProKit 7. If you have any problems with your pro apps you can downgrade to ProKit5.0. However I sent them exactly what they paid for which was half. I deleted the video and only gave them the audio on the timeline. I am just sick and tired of getting burnt and I have a bunch of other editor friends who are going through the same thing. Unfortunately there probably isn't a single person on this forum who hasn't dealt with this at one time or another. Just wanted to share with you how I am dealing with my current situation. Various reasons i.e. technically, emotionally, politically and creatively. However it is my greatest achievement so far and the BEST experience I have ever had. It was one of those life changing experiences. This film has changed my life. I made life long friends with three people on that film. Evan (the lead actor) - whby Jeff C - News and Announcements |
