"Exception: a serious error has occurred!" with latest TRIAL of MC - 8 years agoToday I've downloaded the latest FREE TRIAL Media Composer (8.5) for PC. My computer is fairly new (barely 5 months old -- see specs below). Upon loading the software, I imported a few small files just to play around with. These files seemed fine. I put them into a sequence. But the sequence won't play (in the record monitor). And they won't play in the SOURCE monitor either. Oddly, I can scrubby SpliceBoy - Avid Media Composer Re: What is correct PROJECT SETTINGS for Storyboards Project - 11 years agoHi Nick, Thanks so much for taking time to respond. Extremely appreciated! First of all, some stats: this computer is a MacPro 3.1, with dual core Intel processors. 8gb or ram, so this is NOT an issue. I have a separate internal drive (that I use for media) with more than 500 GB remaining, so again, don't think this is an issue. Others in the past had suggested upping the Still Cache,by SpliceBoy - Café LA What is correct PROJECT SETTINGS for Storyboards Project - 11 years agoI realize this sounds like a no-brainer of a question, but I'm just not getting it. I'm working on an animation series for TV, and of course, the first process is to do an animatic or leica sequence. I am aware that one can easily start a new project and just drop one of the storyboard files onto the timeline, and violia, it should automatically install the correct sequence settings. But, eitherby SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: 16:9 and 4:3 elements in Same Sequence - 11 years agoCorrect me if I"m wrong, but the slate was created as 4:3 so that the top & bottom of the screen would be utilized for the burn-in details, leaving the 16:9 middle section available for the storyboards & animation shots. If the slate was converted to 16:9 too, the top & bottom of the screen (where you see the black bars) could not be used as the area of for the burn-ins.by SpliceBoy - Café LA 16:9 and 4:3 elements in Same Sequence - 11 years agoHey FCP Gurus, Here's a conundrum I'm dealing with and I'm not getting anywhere. Perhaps you can help, if this problem is solvable. First of all, I'm working on an animation series, so immediately that puts me in a slightly more eccentric editing position, than most of you "live action" cutters. No tape, no film, just storyboard jpgs. for now, although a bunch of motion-capture maby SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: Can Clip-Name from Timeline be seen in Canvas Window? - 11 years agoJude: yes, the workflow is a tad onerous, but overall, it's not that bad. Besides, I think the asst. editor will end up with this task anyways.... Plenty of clever monkeys around, but sometimes its difficult to translate from Simian into plain English. Strypes: Thanks for trying so hard to find a work around, but that last suggestion sounded like a "doozie"! Will probably just sticby SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: Can Clip-Name from Timeline be seen in Canvas Window? - 11 years agoO.K. ... just so we're all on the same page here.... I'm currently working on an animation series, -- in this case, I'll have storyboards (jpegs) and eventually live motion capture footage (QT's) as well. Right now I'm dealing with storyboard panels which have no imbedded timecode. I create a track of timecode when exporting any quicktimes of completed shows so that producers / directors / broadcby SpliceBoy - Café LA Can Clip-Name from Timeline be seen in Canvas Window? - 11 years agoThis is going to sound weird, but I was asked by one of the company's IT fellows if we can get Final Cut to show the clip name ON-SCREEN in the Canvas window, so that when the sequence is output, it will show up in the Quicktime. The only way I know of getting that info on screen is to create a text track with the info typed in. It can be seen in the canvas, and of course it will show up whenby SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: That Damn ORANGE LINE - 12 years agoThanks everyone for all your input .... so far. Here's my "orange line" update: Been working on my project for the past two weeks. The "issue" hasn't gone away, however, it's been workable. I've been able to edit, although, whenever I put in a shot that either has an effect (wipe, dissolve, camera move, etc.) I usually have to render the shots so that it will play through.by SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: That Damn ORANGE LINE - 12 years agoYa, I switched preferences, as per your suggestions, but still no changes. Still have that orange line. I am still able to playback & view the project, even with the orange line. It will get disrupted when it comes to a shot with an effect (wipe or dissolve, pan or zoom, etc.). But if I render that section, then it will play fine, even with the frame rate at Full. I guess, when I start tby SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: That Damn ORANGE LINE - 12 years agoI've now pushed the Still Cache slider up to 100%. I've also pushe the Thumbnail Cache RAM up to 3000k. Exited FCP, and then relaunched. Still that Orange Line persists. Ughhhh.... My original jpegs are anywhere from 200k up to 2 Mb. Average size is perhaps 300-500 k. But I do have nearly 2000 panels. Still... Final Cut should be able to handle this, yes? Storyboard Dimensions are 1by SpliceBoy - Café LA Re: That Damn ORANGE LINE - 12 years agoHi Strypes. What's your idea of "a lot" of cache? I've already increased the Still Cache to 45%.... how far can I go with that? Also: I've increased my Thumbnail Cache to the following: DISK: 8192 K (original setting) RAM: 1500 K How much can I increase these settings? What's your suggestion?by SpliceBoy - Café LA That Damn ORANGE LINE - 12 years agoMorning lafcpug. Been surfing your site for a while now, but today is my first posting and hope that I could get some light shed on this problem. I am editing at home (I usually edit at someone else's studio with their computers). I have a 21" iMAC (17 months old), running Mac OS 10.6.2 See specs below. My current project involves editing together a large number of STORY BOARD paneby SpliceBoy - Café LA |
