Re: Blurry encoding from a Sony F900 - 12 years agoJust curious if they recorded to HDCam or did they use a file based recorder attached to an SDI port? We just had a serious issue with a Panasonic camera using the PIX 240 to record files. Soft looking images. That particular camera had an DVCProHD tape transport in it. So the shots were backed up to tape AND files. The files from the first day of shooting were soft compared to the imagesby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Freelance - Client Producers / editors.... WRONG For Creativity (rant) - 12 years agoTim, Being in the position of the button pusher isn't where you want to be. You want clients to choose you BECAUSE of what you bring to the table and the value you can add. That is called "having a client following" and that's when you get paid the big bucks. It's true that the final say on the creative is somewhere up the chain. But you should always strive to be a creative forcby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Is it possible to fix out of focus shots? - 12 years agoI'll download the demo tomorrow and check the time on several different frames. I'm curious as I do still photography as a hobby and have been looking at the Topaz filters for a while, just have not been ready to purchase yet. Tried the DeJPEG filter before but it didn't seem to be that effective. Could have been pilot error though on my part.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Is it possible to fix out of focus shots? - 12 years agoYou could try this from Topaz labs. I don't think it can be applied to a video clip. Probably have to render out a targa sequence or similar and apply it in Photoshop. I could be wrong, some of their plugins can be used on video. Edit: Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto, Lightroom. The examples are not showing befores that are way out of focus, just a little. But the results are pretty gooby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: $999 FCP to Avid Symphony crossgrade offer - 12 years agoA point. There is a tendency on this forum for most of the moderators to look at the entire post production world from the viewpoint of the workflow they are used to, where labor is divided among specialists. You have to remember that one of the best things about Final Cut's entry into the market was to allow the individual/small shop access to the same tools as the bigger production coby Sprocketz - Avid Media Composer Re: Larry Jordan reveals Apple's FCPX Roadmap - 12 years ago> We don't know for sure why they're taking this > path but I'm going to guess, having been using the > program since its inception. Are they discontinuing Symphony? That's a really good deal. Or have I missed new developments at Blackmagic.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: OT: Get Top Notch PRO AE TRAINING for only $49...all for a really good cause. - 12 years agoThanks for this catch Joe, my order is going in today. Now maybe I can figure out what the heck to do with Form!by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: OT: joining the union - 12 years agoIf those jobs fell under any union's jurisdiction it could be IATSE... or it could be NABET. You would have to ask which would cover that department if they could push their way in. IATSE covers mainly studio features and scripted television. NABET non-scripted television below the line staff. So a network game show would likely have the camera operators, sound technicians, tape ops undeby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Frame Rate Help! - 12 years agoNot trying to be anti FCP, but since it seems like a pretty simple edit maybe you should give another NLE a shot. I assume there is still a free 30 day trial of Media Composer. The frame rates will work fine but I am not sure about the .264 situation in MC6. Or you can try Premier and use the media directly, but I don't know how well it handles mixed frame rates in the sequence. Maybe some oneby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: FCP X dead for Professionals? - 12 years agoI just can't let that one go... I think you meant "peace of mind" Walter. Since "piece" of mind is what you get after having your "mind blown"by Sprocketz - Café LA - X Re: FCP X dead for Professionals? - 12 years agoAndreas, You have written many times here about various issues regarding subtitles. You ought to use your detailed knowledge to write up a tutorial on subtitles and all the issues surrounding them with FCP, Avid and Premier. I would certainly pay for that.by Sprocketz - Café LA - X Re: Breaking News: Say Hello Again to FCP 7. #FCP7 - 13 years agoSince most people on this forum already own some version of FC, and it doesn't seem like they are offering the upgrade from older versions, putting it up for sale again seems like a narrow gesture to a few companies that would like to add extra seats. But like Walter said, why not just use that money to get into something supported.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: What TV shows are being shot on what equipment? - 13 years agoAndy Field Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Here's an exhaustive list from this site -- I know > Modern Family shot on Sony F35 last year and think > they switched to the Arri Alexa this season > > (this is all from this site) > Cameras and shows That list is 3 years old. Would that be what is mentioned with this LCD when you scroll down to "Features: Quad Picture Technology"?by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Avid: Xdcam ex's MXF for NLEs or AMA/ Consolidate - 13 years agoStrypes, there are plenty of gotchas and problems working with AMA. I have done several projects with it and it can be some kind of mix of pleasure and pain. Since the use of AMA has come up here several times I have been meaning to write up a short entry regarding the problems I have ran into and the workarounds involved. Just so people know going in and can avoid some of the pain. They are not. Part of the producer's job is to understand the financial side of the business and run a fair and ethical operation. I have worked for plenty of real producers who ran honest operations. And were proud of it. These other people are scam artists.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Avid goes 64 bits - 13 years agoAE handles DNxHD just the same as any other codec but you have to make sure you install the codec set which can be downloaded from Avid's website. If I am making graphics for Avid, it's DNx, FCP I use ProRes. Don't know about Mercury though.by Sprocketz - Avid Media Composer Re: Avid goes 64 bits - 13 years agoYes ian, the lasso method is the way to get into the various trim/slip/slide modes quickly. And yet a lot of editors don't know it, even if they have been working on the Avid for years.by Sprocketz - Avid Media Composer Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 13 years agoThanks for the response Walter, I found your blog and will follow your progress there. I read the post by Peter Blumenstock and found that interesting. As you did, I also noticed that a lot of the interface or keystrokes/workflow seemed lifted right out of Final Cut. Which is good thing. I will continue to try Premiere out but already I see it can't be the end all for anybody using mulby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 13 years agoWalter, I will be curious about your testing of Premiere Pro. I have just spent a little time with it in the last couple of days and I am concerned. We cannot use FCPX due to the lack of multicam, which we use a lot. But I have learned that Premier's implementation of multicam only does 4 cameras tops. Not good for us. There is some kind of work around involving ganging of multiple groups bby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Not quite as positive things - 13 years agoNice rigid body simulations there. If I can find a copy, should I upgrade to Studio 3 just to have the last version? - 13 years agoI have already decided not to go looking for a copy of FCP 7 and instead use the saved cash to upgrade my Adobe suite from CS5 to 5.5. I already have Premier in that package although I have not used it. Guess it's better to upgrade Premier and give it a shot than spend perfectly good money on software that may soon be unusable on Mac's running Lion or later.by Sprocketz - Café LA - X FCPX: No multicam. So... I have FCP Studio 2. If I can find a copy, should I upgrade to Studio 3 just to have the last version? - 13 years agoWe do a lot of multicam. We are hosed with FCPX. We are using Studio 2, should I ugrade to 3 just to have the last, most recent usable version. Michael, are there even any Studio 3 copies available through the store? I looked and it seems you can order, but delivery indicates 3-5 weeks. You know, I don't have a single copy of pirate software. I pay for everything. Sorry I followed that link. Looks like the "Elaine Montoya" blog is written by Adobe marketing people. Full of inaccuracies, over-enthusiastic hype. Entry after entry praising Adobe products. We have shot 30p before and I personally prefer it. Yes it would be simpler to convert it but she is stuck on 24. The camera op has since pulled back from his suggestion and we are going with 24 for the bulk of the shoot and 60 for specific slomo material. But still, the larger question for me is the lack of tools for manipulatinby Sprocketz - Café LA Pulling 24p out of a 60p ProRes clip? - 13 years agoWe are prepping for a shoot next week using an HDX900 recording to a Ki Pro. Most of the footage is to be shot 24p (23.976) but there will be some elements shot at 60 for slo mo purposes. The camera operator has suggested shooting the whole thing 60p and pulling 24fps from that later to save time at the shoot switching the camera frame rate. Plus suggesting we would have all that extra slo mby Sprocketz - Café LA |
