I hope they changed and fixed the Preview application. Apple screwed it up in Lion. What a confusing app. They screwed up a perfectly simple program along with the reverse scrolling feature? If it wasn't for certain apps like Pro tools 10 and MC 6, I'd go back to Leopardby DM - Café LA

Need advice on the most effective way to speed up renders What is the main cause of slow renders? Working with 1080 XDCAM and HDV formats. However, the projects are up to 2 hours in length. Final render times are killing us. Medium amount of effects. 1-nor enough RAM. 2-Drive access speeds? 3-Other? 4-All of the above My system is non-raid, internal drive and FireWire 800 based Mby DM - Café LA

(and then screwed up by posting this in that forum!!) Have a couple of 7 gig QT 1/2 hr. movies (XDCAM 1920 x 1080i) that I need to make available for download from my dropbox. Looking for a good scheme to compress these files into something smaller to download. People could be viewing on phone, pad or something larger, maybe a TV. Who knows anymore... Just re-occurring to me that if your transcoding XDCAM to an I frame only codec like pro-Rez, then the bit rate will be much higher in addition to storage size?by DM - Avid Media Composer

thx, I just don't get why so many editors use such high bit rate DN codecs for stuff that's 25 and 35mb/sec like XDCAM EX. I often see examples of over 100mb/sec being used. Seems like a huge waste of space?by DM - Avid Media Composer

#1- Does AMA support QT HDV files? I see it supports Pro Res and some DSLR files. #2- The tutorials I've seen all tout the access to multiple file types using AMA. However, is there an optimal sequence or project aspect and frame rate to use when you know your going to need access to these multiple formats? I.E. I could choose a flavor of Pro Res if I was using Final Cut. What do you choose foby DM - Avid Media Composer

Since the Avid package ships with MC 5.5 and a slew of other apps like Avid FX, Boris FX, Sorenson Squeeze and a few others, what happens when you upgrade to MC -6, 64 bit? Will the other 32 bit apps still work?by DM - Avid Media Composer

Well, evidently, at least for my particular problem with Focus FSH-200 DTE compact flash recorder, Apple did them in. I'm posting a copy of the support notice in a new post on this forumby DM - Café LA

Dead in the water. 2 jobs sitting here. One, I've already been paid for. Can't even open the files in compressor. Can only read the files in VLC. Faced with transcoding the project files using Handbrake and transcoding again using Compressor to take the H.264 files and make Pro Res out of them. Don't know at this time how much of a hit I'm going to take in quality, let alone the amount of timeby DM - Café LA

Canon XH-A1 shot in HDV, 1080i, 60. Recorded firewire direct to DTE flash card. Card set to HDV/Quicktime record format. Done this many times. It's just a DTE card recorder made by Focus Enhancements. This has been a regular routine shooting/workflow method until latelyby DM - Café LA

I am having an issue with Quicktime files opening and reading in all of the following: - Quicktime Player 10 - Quicktime 7.6.6 - Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 - MPEG Streamclip They are unreadable in my computer, and I get the following error message: "Invalid public movie atom was found in movie." I am using a 32GB card reader to record HDV 1440x1080-60i footage and just recently, theby DM - Café LA

Well, I'm with Loren. I've used Lacie d2 drives and now the ruggedized drives for years. I have 6 d2's of all sizes that have been used heavily for long form projects. I use the orange drives in the field. Never a problem...by DM - Café LA

Welp, got a little direction from the Avid forum. Was a bit disappointed to see that, evidently, the interface does not come up and snap to when you first open it. As far as I can tell, the windows don't have a snap value at all, unlike FC windows. I had to find, grab, size, etc... my composer, timeline and project windows and "save current" under the tools drop down window. I can stillby DM - Avid Media Composer

yeah, cept' interlaced uses the same. No 720 interlaced though that I know of...Guess ya have to look at every description. There is a certain amount of loose descriptors floating around.by DM - Avid Media Composer

Using trial version of MC 5.5.3. I have a Mac Pro system with dual cinema displays. I'm looking for the preferences or settings control so I can merge all windows on to one monitor (for now) so I can learn this app a little easier. Right now, upon booting the program, before I create a new project, the composer and the timeline window is split off into my second monitor. As soon as I confirm anby DM - Avid Media Composer

I'm stumbling my way through this strange new world of MC. I have some XDCAM EX footage recorded at 1280 x 720p at 60p. The project settings in Avid don't seem to offer this format, only 720p 30. Is this right?by DM - Avid Media Composer

Humm, I wonder if Avid is doing a slow draw on everyone. If the crossgrade is 995.00 plus a minimum hardware purchase of Matrox at roughly 600.00, then, they release version 6 for maybe another 600.00 upgrade fee, they just about have everybody paying the full price they always charge.by DM - Café LA
