Mikeby Mike Hardcastle - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 11 years agoWell - as this is already one of the longest running threads in the history of the known universe, I might as well add my 2 cents worth. On the whole, I agree with Grafixjoe and others who are saying that it's just too early to make a judgement about FCPX. I've watched the video of the SuperMeet presentation right through and been intrigued by "Auditioning" and "The Magnetic Tiby Mike Hardcastle - Café LA - X Re: Working on multiple projects scratch disc - 11 years agoWell - it's Jon Chappell and Digital Rebellion you should thank ! I pretty much fell in love with FCP from the first day I laid my hands on it. After 7 or 8 years working on Avids, I found something about FCP which was just intuitively right for me. But the one thing that really bugged me was that scratch disks were set at the program level rather than per project. If you do project backups it takes care of this sort of thing perfectly. An indispensable tool - and free to boot. Bluey - thanks for your suggestion. While you say it's not rocket science, I have to say I can't find anything on youtube that looks remotely useable. I hardly ever use effects like this, but these are perfect for a job I'm working on at the moment. In fact I use it so much that I've re-mapped my keyboard so that the 'c' key does it for me in one stroke. By default, 'c' is 'crop', but I hardly ever use that in comparison. Have you ever exported a QT from another project in the past ? In other words, is this the first time you've hit this problem ? regards Mikeby Mike Hardcastle - Café LA Re: Exporting a sequence of still images from FCP to DVD Pro - 12 years agoWhile I'm not an FCP expert like the moderators here, I notice from one of your screen shots (second to last) that it appears you are trying to import an FCP Project file into DVD Studio. Is the screen shot wrong ? I mean, obviously you need to import the QT.... regards Mikeby Mike Hardcastle - Café LA Re: Sony EX3 HDCam footage - 12 years agoYou should have no problems as long as you don't have multiple video tracks running. I have been editing XDCam on a G5 running FCP 6.0.6 for a couple of years. You have to use Clipwrap (or similar) to convert the mts files to ProRes.by Mike Hardcastle - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 12 years agoIt's actually not that big an issue for me. I do most of my work at outside facilities where they do have up-to-date machines. I bought the G5 second-hand a couple of years ago when an old friend (the sculptor, Chris Booth) asked me to look at putting together a film from his archive (80 hours of tape, going back over 30 years). Most of the archive is DV - the earlier stuff is V8, Hi8 or VHS.by Mike Hardcastle - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 12 years agoBen King Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- ProRes was and is not officially supported on PPC Crikey ! Very occasionally I have had dropped frames in playing HD, but it's only ever really a problem when I'm playing back in Digital Cinema fullscreen. It's very erratic though - some days the problem's there and on others the same sequence will play perfectly. I tried Voltaic - I didn't think it was a bad as Derek found it, but it was still agonisingly slow. I'm now using Clipwrap and converting to ProRes 422. At one point he turned and looked straight down the lens and said (paraphrase) "Ze kamera is ze cold eye of death." My own role in making the film was small and I've always believed that the real stroke of genius about the film was the selection of those particular film-makers - because at that time they were just on the cusp of becoming famous. It was made 35 years ago, shot (by me as it happens) at the Cannes Film Festival, but has only very recently become available on the web. The film itself is probably a bit obscure today.
