Re: Hurricane RITA... - 19 years agoGalveston / Houston lucked out BIGTIME. Rita pretty much fizzled out right before landfall to a CAT3 and took a hard right. Glad to hear not much damage in Texas There gonna have to bulldoze half of Lousiana and start over.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I kicked my G5 in the face and I will do it again ! I am the destroyer, please ! - 19 years agoClean Install. Also, you should be on QT 6.5.2 in Panther (reinstaller on the Apple website).by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Green Screen Shoot - 19 years agoAdd the "Matte Choker" to your Greenscreen combo in After Effects and tweak the settings to bring the edge in. If there are dark spots away from your hand, you may need to use garbage mattes to block them out. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Datavideo Dac-10 - 19 years agoCam, $565 + $15 shipping - brand new on ebay: Good luck! - Joey Post Edited (09-22-05 15:48)by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Datavideo Dac-10 - 19 years agoI am still using a DAC-2...which has been absolutely priceless. It was discontinued and the DAC-10 replaced it in their product line. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Datavideo equipment (and you'll find posts from me saying so in a Forum Search)! - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Hurricane RITA... - 19 years agoIt's not gonna get better. The longer you wait & watch...the worse it gets. You could have been out if you left yesterday. Anyway - moot now. You've pretty much made up your mind so stay on the ground floor in the center of a concrete building - away from any and all glass. My whole family (Mother-In-Law too...don't ask) crammed in my little bathroom in the center of the house when Charley hby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: FCP and After Effects - 19 years agoI didn't say mine was a better approach...I merely pointed out some information that wasn't included that should have been when instructing on an Alpha Channel. With a straight alpha channel, a footage item keeps the transparency information in a separate channel (the alpha channel only), not in any of the visible color channels. This kind of alpha channel is also known as unmatted alpha. With aby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: IDVD v. DVD Studio Pro - which is faster? - 19 years agoiDVD asks you when it's done burning "would you like to burn another?" and you just pop in another disc and your off. Otherwise, just click "Done". Doesn't get much easier than that - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Hurricane RITA... - 19 years ago"...i have a deadline of tomorrow am on a print project that simply can NOT slide." wayne, That probably tops out as the dumbest thing I ever heard from someone staring into the eye of a CAT5. This is a ridiculous time to be a hero and complete your "deadline". It's safe to say that natural disasters qualify for a deadline push, don't you?! A few chilling facts, folksby grafixjoe - Café LA Hurricane RITA... - 19 years agoRita is a CAT5 and fixin' to hit Galveston Island. Houston is gonna be close. There's no "waiting out" a CAT5 - there's nothing left from a storm that strong. Please get out and stay safe. God bless & look after our Industry friends & their families in Rita's path. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: FCP and After Effects - 19 years agoWhat wayne didn't mention is you need to set your AE Alpha Channel render to "Straight (Unmatted)" and not "Premulitplied" or you will get a hideous color halo around your graphics (it will be premultiplied with the background - and you do not want this). - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: IDVD v. DVD Studio Pro - which is faster? - 19 years agoI LOVE iDVD! Pound-4-Pound ($-4-$) the best software Apple ever released. It's faster than DVD Studio Pro - especially for smaller projects. I don't know what koz is talking about here...I never had an issue encoding or playing a burned DVD-R on any set top box or computer DVD player. *CHECK THAT - once I tried encoding from media on my boot drive - which obviously failed - so I never did thatby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: What is the best brand of DVDs? - 19 years agoG4 733 (damn, that's old) - better make sure first of all you have your firmware updated to use high speed media. I can pretty much guarantee that old machine does not read DVD+Rs (Only the newest G5 Superdrives do that from the factory) and DVD-Rs are more accepted by a wider range of player/recorders. I use Memorex 8x DVD-R media and have no issues at all. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA re: DigiBeta online - 19 years agoTo cut in a few new shots & export an EDL? An hour (depending on if the client/Producer is in the room and how much of a PITA he/she is). What's buggin' me is I can't understand why a 35MM Digi Transfer would be captured at 8-Bit rather than 10-Bit...especially if the ftg is color corrected and going to end up in a FLAME Artist's hands??? Depending where the TC Breaks are, yeah, you probablby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: G5 superdrive -- how long do they last? - 19 years agoI had unexplained failures on my G4 Superdrive. I got one of those Maxel Laser cleaning discs (looks like a CDROM with an eyelash glued to it) and ran it through a few times...all was well forever more after that. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Web Development - 19 years agoI don't know what SBC is, but I combine Dreamweaver MX with HTML editing. My site is simple (no FLASH) and does not crash (for 3 years my ISP has been in the Ukraine - only $60 per year for an awesome service). - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Organizational Tools - 19 years agoThis is what's called MEDIA MANAGEMENT. Something like this is what's missing from FCP and should be BUILT IN (see Avid's Media Tool). Add this to my FCP 6 Feature Request list. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Painfull organizing - 19 years agoHey Malc, The trick is to develop a healthy system before digitizing a single frame. I have a filing system for all my projects that has worked for me for years. I set up a system of sub-folders inside a Main Project folder that has the Job # on it: ? SS1000 Main Project --- ? 3D (C4D Projects / textures / associated files) --- ? after effects / motion (project files) --- ? edit (FCP / Eby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: HDV - YES or NO? - 19 years agoHoly Hemorroids, Batman...OUCH! That's not gonna hurt the Sony sales any, I'll tell you that much. Thanxby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: one or two monitors? - 19 years agoI have 2 - 17" monitors at home - an Apple Flatpanel and a Sony Flatpanel. Hate the Sony...LOVE the Apple. Like Mike said...budget was a consideration in me buying the Sony ($248 on Buy.com - could not resist). I love having 34" of screen real estate. If I had the $$$, twin Apple 23"s would be my hands-down choice, just for the sheer brilliance of the images. Apple monitors are thby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Edit out 'black spot'? - 19 years ago"..."too cool a tool" Loren - you should be in marketing!" He is...just look at the bottom of all his posts (j/k) I, too, would suggest a Clone Tool. I can easily fix this problem in After Effects Pro 6.5 with the built-in Clone Tool. It samples the ftg & clones the selected area so the cloned areas move along with the rest. It saved my a$$ many times (actually, it saby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: HDV - YES or NO? - 19 years agoThat video is nice, Ryan. If that's Sorenson compressed ftg straight out of the camera, I can imagine what the full rez stuff looks like on a plasma screen. Just for S & G's, I Googled the FX1 and found a brand new one for less than $2,000...amazing. The release of the Canon XL H1 is going to turn the HDV market on it's ear. NOBODY capturing HDV images has Uncompressed HD output...NOBODY. Evby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Blown out sky, need to change to blue! - 19 years agoIn After Effects, I have can pull clouds & blue sky from a blown out bkgd plate (90% of the time) by a applying & tweaking a combination Levels / Curves / Hue Saturation plug-ins. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: New Canon Camcorder - 19 years agoI haven't gotten an MSRP yet, but I got this off of my other forum: Pretty darn SEXY machine - Joey Post Edited (09-14-05 20:56)by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Edit out smoke? Help! - 19 years agoThese days, a "dedicated editing box" (especially on a Mac) isn't necessary - as a matter of fact, is pretty prehistoric. I have 2 rigs - a Dual 2.5 G5 at work and a Dual 1 G4 at home. Both boxes are LOADED with all Adobe software, Cinema 4D, Cleaner, FC Studio, etc...etc. The Dual 1 Gig has Express Pro on it also. These 2 boxes are on a T1 & DSL lines respectively. I have no crashby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Edit out smoke? Help! - 19 years agoGotta know what you are doing with snow. If you do it wrong, it looks really fake. You don't need Maya to accomplish depth with the snow...just multiple Trapcode Particular (or DigiEffect Delerium "Snowstorm" applied with different settings / color correction in After Effects. I would split the layer (roto out the main bldg) and drop snow on the layer behind the bldg. The snow falling oby grafixjoe - Café LA |
