I have 2 RAID "1" arrays - a work unit (1 TB) and a backup only unit (3 TB). I use Time Machine built into the Mac OS - works perfectly and I have redundant backup all around.

Disagree with Ben... TGA files support 8,15,16,24,32 bit depths. Targa with alpha is 32-Bit (24 bit + 8 bit for the Alpha Channel). This is the best format out of a 3D app IMHO. Then compile into a Prores 4444 file for maximal color retention.

That's a brilliant solution Mike. I'll tell you...the best thing I EVER did was order my last Macbook Pro with the smokin' fast Apple 512 GB SSD (haven't missed a tower for years). I would never use anything else as a boot drive other than an SSD.

Thank you Mike. This is actually the first professional collaboration between me and my 14 year old son Cameron. He did the artwork (Illustrator CS 5.5) that I incorporated onto the wall (C4D) in the first scene / composition! A Silver Telly @ 14 years old! Proud Papa )

Sounds too familiar...Apple also said that FCPX was going to "blow us away". It blew us away alright...right into the Adobe / Avid camps.

(in my experience) There is no "standard" really...best to ask each station you are sending to. -6 db I have only sent out for internet play - way too hot for TV stations. -12 is too hot for some stations. I used to ship -20 on request to certain stations for broadcast TV. They will tell you what "format" as well (example: 48k/16bit/Stereo/.aif). Also some stations take 720p P

That is in Photoshop...but don't count on it in video as it is computationally intensive per frame: BTW...this is NOT for "out of focus" shots...this is for MOTION BLURRED shots (there is a difference). I am under warranty with the VR2 so it's CalDigit sleds. I have not had to change out my original VR sleds yet (knocking wood...NOW) as they have been rock solid for years. I wouldn't use anything else at this point. Kicks a$$.

My bad. They are both MIRRORED RAID "1". All I have to do is plug in a replacement drive and it rebuilts the RAID automatically = no downtime.

Loren, The laptop is one screen. I have a 27" Cinema Display on the other side. The last thing it feels like is "laptop editing". And wherever I go to work I find a secondary screen to confiscate (bag full of adapters) G - Read what I said again...I said "around here" meaning around ME. Also "single drive failure" does not come into play ever with me

99% of the time I negotiate a flat project fee with 3 revisions built in. After that, it's $750 per day for UP TO 8 hours (that means 1 to 8 hours is booked @ $750). Troy, Stay away from large pics in FCP...period. Use Motion or even better After Effects if you have it and animate 3D position rather than scale. The render is cleaner and a hell of a lot faster.

Let us know how those AJA IoXTs and T-Taps work out. I haven't ingested anything from tape in over a year (we have 5 Ki Pro's for Game Capture / field recording) so I may not even use the Kona LHe. I may just sell it with it's KL-Box.
