Shane did an absolutely fantastic job on that review and he's been absolutely giddy over the AJA Kona performance during all the testing. I can tell you here at our shop, the operation of the AJA Kona 3 in our system has been performing flawlessly with MC6. I would still have to really ramp up my efficiency in the application as this testing was the first time in over 12 years I've used Avidby walterbiscardi - Avid Media Composer

Yet another consideration for going Adobe / Avid. Both are cross platform, our AJA Kona boards are cross platform. So instead of being forced to go all external thunderbolt technology, I can still the same Kona boards in a comparable Windows 7 machine and for the most part, the PCs are still cheaper than the Macs. Plus our server supports both Mac and Windows so I can replace my machines onby walterbiscardi - Café LA

One thing for sure, since you mention the room gets hot, get a small fan and put it directly in front of the Mac to move more air through the machine. Might put a second fan behind the machine pointed across the back to help dissapate the heat. It's not required in the least. In my shop I'm editing everything natively and then I can make a ProRes file at the very end if I want to for archiving using the Adobe Media Encoder which renders much much faster than Compressor.by walterbiscardi - Adobe Premiere Pro CC

Just depends on what you're doing. You can cut in any format in Premiere. If you want to capture / convert your footage to ProRes for the edit, that's fine. Karl Lee Soule posted an excellent article on doing a ProRes end to end workflow in Premiere Pro.by walterbiscardi - Adobe Premiere Pro CC

Raw AVCHD files are MP4's so if you exported the same as the Sequence, then yes, you'll end up with an MP4. Most of the codecs shot natively in digital cameras are a derivative of H264 / MPEG in some fashion. If you're used to the FCP Log and Transfer tool, you never knew this because the formats were converted prior to edit.by walterbiscardi - Adobe Premiere Pro CC

AJA already has a thunderbolt device announced at IBC so I'm certain that the broadcast monitoring will be one way to achieve this. We're gonna have AJA at our Atlanta Cutters event in October and I'm anxious to see what this thing looks like. I'm also pretty certain that some of the video cards that people own will also work with broadcast monitoring. It may not be every single one of thosby walterbiscardi - Café LA - X

Is the XML Import / Export native to the app or still third party? And intelligent stem export means it's still trackless in the editing app but then you can assign how audio is output? Sounds a bit more convoluted than it has to be.by walterbiscardi - Café LA - X

I will add that for the moment I have all my Premiere Pro systems set up in the Final Cut Pro 7 Keyboard Shortcuts (Thank you Adobe for providing that!) as it is making the transition incredibly simple because all my memorized shortcuts pretty much work. But as we continue to transition completely away from FCP, we'll start to implement the Adobe shortcuts. It's a nice way to ease into the soby walterbiscardi - Adobe Premiere Pro CC

We're running an ethernet based shared storage system from Small Tree Communications that completely rocks. Right now we have 48TB shared with 6 primary edit workstations, 5 iMacs and my laptop. The super cool thing about this system is it's much cheaper than Fibre Channel (in my case less than half the price of a similar configuration) and there's no software needed for the clients. If you can't trust your monitor, then you're missing half the point. The Scopes tell you if you're legal or not, and give you some great information on the image overall. But the final look of the image is determined by the artist and the only way the artist can know for sure what the image looks like, is to see the image on a proper monitor. AJA announced at IBC that the Ki Pro Mini will soon be able to record directly to the Avid DNxHD codec. Very nice move to open up the product to more codecs besides just being Apple centric. And of course the DNxHD codec plays very nicely in Adobe Premiere Pro as well, so there's a nice alternative to the ProRes codec.by walterbiscardi - Avid Media Composer
