Re: Import and organize for film workflow? - 8 years agoNo one? So how is everybody organizing within X for a short film workflow?by Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: How can I add dissolves back in on FCP7 after getting the film back from my colorist? - 8 years agoWhat was your workflow that you used to turnover the files from from FCP7 to the colorist? Because it sounds like the Colorist doesn't know what he's talking about. First, dissolves WILL transfer from FCP7 to Resolve and would not inhibit the colorist from doing his job in any way. Second, what is he talking about with handles? When you export an xml from FCP7, there's no option for handlby Joe Riggs - Café LA Import and organize for film workflow? - 8 years agoI know FCP7 but scared about X. Anyone mind sharing, how to create a organized project in X before editing? I'd like to work form an External drive for the entire film. I need to bring in raw footage and audio. Sync the footage and Audio (via TC or manually via slate) Separate the now synced clips into bins by scene (events?) Edit each scene in it's own sequence (projects?) If so how do you enable that option?by Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 8 years agoOS X 10.11, is the first upgrade in a long time that I'm possibly interested in as supposedly it offers performance benefits. I'm really curious to find out from others if FCP7 can run on it and if there are any issues, once it is officially released.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Does X work with RED footage natively or does it transcode? - 8 years agoThanks for that tipby Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: Does X work with RED footage natively or does it transcode? - 8 years agoIt seems there is an option to choose the quality of the playback, although it is it very limited: QuoteApple website Better Quality: Choose this option to display full-resolution video frames in the Viewer. This setting may decrease playback performance for high-quality, large-frame-size video. Better Performance: Choose this option to display video in the Viewer at reduced resolution. Deby Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: Does X work with RED footage natively or does it transcode? - 8 years agoJeez, just reading all these new steps for FCPx, makes me gun shy. Furthermore, I forgot that you need to upgrade your OS to even run the program. I'm still on 8.5 and don't want to upgrade unless there's some speed benefit to the two main programs I use, FCP7 and Premiere. The last version to work on 8.5, I think is 10.0.9. Am I missing major features with that release or will I be okaby Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: Does X work with RED footage natively or does it transcode? - 8 years agoInteresting, so it can work natively,. specifically with Red Dragon files? Is there an option to lower the playback quality (1/4, 1/8, 1/16) without going to proxies.by Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Does X work with RED footage natively or does it transcode? - 8 years agoMight be jumping into FCPx for a project. I never understood if X is able to edit RED files natively (like Premiere) or does it need to transcode them (even in the background or something)? If it does the latter, would it be better to just transcode before bringing it into the program?by Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: "Out of memory" errors - 8 years agoQuoteare you keeping older versions of edits in your project? most of them can be put into another project Yes, I'll split it. Update - removing some of the older sequences did help.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: "Out of memory" errors - 8 years agoWorking with pro res 422 1080p, not working with a lot of sequences open, 3-4 at the max, but there's probably 40-50 sequences contained in the project. I figured it could be the project file, so I'll split it but it didn't just balloon to this size, it has been around 170-200mb for quite awhile and worked fine, only recently did it start crashing. It's just footage (no nesting), mostly strby Joe Riggs - Café LA "Out of memory" errors - 8 years agoBeen recently getting a lot of "Out of memory" errors recently. One project file in particular seems to be the most prone, it is a sizable project file, 200mb. All media and project file are connected via an external usb3 drive that is 80% full. However, copying and pasting attributes does not work via cmd C/X in the timeline. In order for it to work I have to go into the effect controls panel of clip A and copy/paste in the effect controls panel of Clip B. I have an adjustment layer with 3-4 effects (various color/beauty filters) over the footage. I am ready to make my master file, which I will then create an .mp4 from, should I export my master to HQ or regular Pro Res? Is there a noticeable quality difference with DSLR footage? A Voice Filter for Field Recordings - 8 years agoI tried Izotope and it was okay, I'm sure I don't know how to use it to its full potential but I found Audition does a lot of the same things and it was easier to use (bias since I've used Audition numerous times). I have a really difficult track to fix, it has a constant lav clothing rustle even over dialogue. I tired removing it in both programs, obviously due to the NR the voice was degraby Joe Riggs - Café LA .m4v files, best workflow - 8 years agoI'll be starting on a project consisting of 4 hours of .m4v footage. Why .m4v? Unfortunately, that is the only format of the footage that the client has. I'll need to trim down the 4 hours to about 3-5 minutes. After that, I'll be editing parts of that section into a previous edit (that was done in FCP7) whose footage is all Pro Res. I see a few options but what are your thoughts? 1. No, was recommended by a friend of a friend, but the issue if there is one, is this business is so insidious that who knows what position these people will be in down the line, so if possible an amicable end would be preferable. In this case, I'm working with an inexperienced completely independent client, so they probably think Editing is the entire post production process. It's disgusting for them to automatically assume that I should prep and conform, not that they even know what that is! I even outlined the post process for client in an email where is states I'm editing offline for X aby Joe Riggs - Café LA Uncomfortable situation with Client - 8 years agoHello, I'm heading into a uncomfortable situation where I believe I need to ask a client for additional compensation and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Post production is very tricky on the real low budge indie level, there's so many factors involved if you do a flat rate. So, initially we agreed on an amount, no contract was signed (yes, first mistake) but we have an email agreement, statby Joe Riggs - Café LA Your Work Sucks - Being honest without burning bridges - 9 years agoWhy is audio the bane of my existence? I really wish directors/producers would pay more attention to the qualifications of key crew. Here's the latest fiasco: Edited a project till picture locked and turned over to Sound. Director and sound designer worked on it for a good while, they spent a lot of time to get it "just right". Occasional updates would come in and I hearby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Adobe CC still has issues... - 9 years agoI wanted to work without transcoding, hence why I was looking to use Premiere. I used CC in the past and experienced issues, apparently based on my reading on the adobe forums, these issues not only persist but are actually worse.
