Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agoQuoteFor example have a look at the last ProApps update, it was all about installing new QT codecs for FCP X - the side result was that you got a bunch of new options in FCP as well. Really? Anything useful?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Urgent -Out of Focus footage - 9 years agoQuote"I think the cameraman is still available" Haha, I was treating it like the old 3 chip cameras and Dcouzin breaks down the science on why that doesn't work. Thankfully, the shoot involved only one subject and we were able to re-shoot right then and there, and this time in crystal clear focus!by Joe Riggs - Café LA Urgent -Out of Focus footage - 9 years agoHello, Would greatly appreciate help with this. I have some out of focus footage that I shot on a DSLR, I set the frame, zoomed in, focused, zoomed out, re-set the frame, then recorded. To my horror, when I looked at the footage on my computer afterwards, my subject is pretty soft. I can't understand why this happened, it must have unfocussed on the way out ( it was my first time usinby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Congrats Nick! - 9 years agoWay to go Nick...too many questions for you but I'll wait till after I see it, hopefully a U.S. release. Well maybe one question, how long was your post schedule on it?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Too many tracks! - what to do - 9 years agoInteresting thread, I edited a show recently that had 8 tracks of audio, 5 tracks blank. You really have to love those sound mixers, apparently he just forgot to turn off those tracks. It was single camera, but even so, sometimes I want to overlay audio from two takes (when a cross fade just doesn't cut it), you end up with 16 tracks. In that case I just dealt with it, but I would like toby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Original is 29.97, compressed to an mp4 is 23.976 - 9 years agoDcouzin, You're some sort of mad genius, thanks for the details. I made the mp4 in Adobe Media Encoder from a master export in FCP7 "current settings", it may have even been 60i, I just can't remember right now. When I watched pieces it seemed fine, obviously motion was not as smooth at 23.976 but maybe I'm crazy I actually think it added to the final piece by giving it a fauxby Joe Riggs - Café LA Original is 29.97, compressed to an mp4 is 23.976 - 9 years agoHello, My original master file is 29.97, I made an .mp4 from it for the web but forgot to change the frame rate to 29.97, so it made it as 23.976. The file is over an hour long, so I only looked through sections and it seemed ok, but could there be glitches throughout due to the framerate change? I'd rather not create the mp4 again but if I must, I must. The project is many hours in length, and I'm trying to avoid incorporating duplicate b-roll without watching the entire thing. Is there any easy way to tell if a clip in the browser has been already used in one of the sequences in the project? Thanksby Joe Riggs - Café LA Easiest way to reproducing reframes from a higher resolution timeline? - 9 years agoIf you did your reframes on a native 5k timeline, is there some calculation that could be applied to determine the exact number to digitally pan or tilt to reproduce it on a 2k or HD timeline. For example lets say in the 5K timeline you scaled the image by 20% and panned it to the right by 100 pixels. You would think, but I've ran into similar scenarios with less than knowledgeable crew from the top on down (footage in wrong frame rate, audio at weird sample rates, etc...). If you open the files in quick time and go to info, what specs do you get from the raw audio/video files?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Starting new project, should I jump to FCPX or stick with 7? - 9 years agoI'll give it a shot with some Pro Res footage at some point.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Starting new project, should I jump to FCPX or stick with 7? - 9 years agoI don't use it religiously, but you still have to render it correct? Then use previews upon export. I recently tried this albeit with Red footage with a scale applied, made my sequence Pro Res 422, rendered previews, opened Media Encoder, check match sequence settings, and use previews. It still took almost 10 minutes for a 45 second sequence.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Starting new project, should I jump to FCPX or stick with 7? - 9 years ago7 still has one major advantage over Premiere and that is, it renders Pro Res material light years faster; while it is less important for short projects, for longer projects (consisting of Pro Res material) 7 saves so much time. Recently, I had a project where 80% of the project was Pro Res, 20% was another format. I could have just thrown it all into Premiere but I choose to transcode the 20by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Long export time for Image file - 9 years agoYeah, I long ago abandoned doing credits within the NLE. Both FCP7 and Pr, proved to be a real pain do them correctly, especially if you need multiple columns, etc... Is this ridiculous or about right, considering my specs (i7 3.4Ghz , 24Gb ram, 680MX cuda enabled). When I put a clip into the timeline, I kept the sequence settings. This delivered the appropriate 2:40 image with out seeing the extra footage outside the frame and when I exported I got the correct amount of Black space for the letterbox. I edited the film in a 5K sequence (5120 x 2160) with an aspect ratio of 2:40. Yes, I could of edited the film in a timeline with the intended delivery format and perhaps saved some headache but I'm trying to figure out the most pain free way to take my edited project and move it to a 2k or 1080p timeline with 2:40 aspect ratio. Is there a better way, and if so what is the workflow? Thanksby Joe Riggs - Café LA MIxing footage 1080p and DVD - 9 years agoI have a project where the majority of the footage is 1080p 23.976 and I'm working in those sequence settings. I'll need to combine some footage from a DVD into this sequence, the DVDs are standard definition and interlaced. What's the best workflow (and programs) to get the footage off these DVD's, de-interlace them, convert them to 23.976 and possibly scale them up using a plug in?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Stereo vs 5.1 workflow for DVD - 9 years agoNick, Thanks for the walk though, it helped me take care of the DVD. However, when I checked out my DVD in my player, the second audio track is labeled as "3/2.1 ch", so I'm not sure if the 5.1 transferred over correctly. I used Compressor for the 5.1 file but Encore to build the DVD, so I'll have to look into it. Client wants one version with stereo and one version with the 5.1 Being a bit unsure of how it works with DVDs/blu rays. My initial thoughts were to include both the stereo and 5.1 mix in the final .mov export, and the post house could make the DVD from that. For the online which will be at 1080p, 2k, or perhaps higher, will I need to retype my titles at the online resolution or can I use my current titles and FCP7 will scale them without too much degradation. First is it possible to create a digital Pro Res file, with 5.1 audio, that will play back 5.1 via quicktime or VLC, or is 5.1 strictly done when creating a DVD/blu ray ? 2. The computer doesn't have a FW800 port, so I'm using an adapter that connects via thunderbolt. Transferring from the FW800 to a USB3 drive took about 2 hours. I thought thunderbolt would be faster than USB3, I'm shocked at the estimated time, is it that sby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Premiere Pro and RED - 9 years agoYou can drag multiple cards from the media browser, but it results in broken or split up files due to size limitations in RED media as you can see below. I believe the only way to get them into premiere consolidated is by using the media browser and navigating through your folder structure until it recognizes the files as "RED". This means you have to select the actual RED mby Joe Riggs - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Unsqueeze Anamorphic and Export? - 9 years agoI've gone the resolve method before but I don't want to transcode if it can be avoided, the footage is Pro Res but squeezed.
