Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 16 years agoActually, the project WAS saved. The rendering had been done overnight during the two previous nights. Last night we added a few lower 3rd graphics and rendered those. Ironically, the rendered graphic sections were still there this morning. Most of the rest was gone. This is FCS2 BTW EDIT: I read the other thread. It is not a bad drive. Only rendered files are being lost. Last night I left at 12:30 am and everything was good. Come in this morning at 7:00am, fire up the system and nearly all the rendered files are gone. How can I match back to the rendered files? A few are still there but I can't figure out how to match back to which file is which so thaby Sprocketz - Café LA Rendered Media missing - 16 years agoHas anybody heard of this? Twice last night I rendered out my 1 hour show, cut into 20 minute blocks for Color. I saw the rendering processing. When done, I send it to FCP and get a "some media not rendered" warning. Upon opening the sequence in FCP I find that none of the Color rendered media is there and it's all just pointing back to the original media. Worse, the renderedby Sprocketz - Color Re: Exporting Flash the first time and having trouble understanding the format. - 16 years agoWayne, thanks very much. I was sweatin' having the client call back and say I did something wrong and they won't play but it looks like it worked just the way it was supposed to. Thanks again!by Sprocketz - Café LA Exporting Flash the first time and having trouble understanding the format. - 16 years agoHi folks, hope this isn't too dumb a question but here goes. I am doing a project making a lot of short clips for the web, several hundred. Client has asked for .flv format delivery. It didn't seem to be a big problem to make them although it's the first time for me. I also have the Adobe CS3 Design Collection on my edit system. I exported them out of FCP using Quicktime conversion and theby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: HD1200A capture problem - 16 years agoThanks Shane, I changed to the back FW port based on your advice. The main thing was that the deck was not set properly. There is an entire menu level just controlling what goes out the firewire port and they did not have it set correctly. I had not used that deck before so I wasn't much help. They got the settings figured out and it's working great now. Thanks very much!by Sprocketz - Café LA HD1200A capture problem - 16 years agoWe are having difficulty capturing from a Panasonic HD1200A deck. The rental house we got the deck from says to capture and control the deck through firewire. We are able to control the deck via firewire but no video into FCP. We are using FCS2 on a dual G5. Going through the front firewire port. Nothing is plugged into the rear FW port. Was going to do the upgrade last week and then started seeing reports of OpenGL problems with AE CS3 on the Mac. The point was to show how the effects of interlace and the resulting moire served to downgrade 1080i. Side by side with good cameras it was very difficult to see the difference. 1080p of course would be another story.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: General FCS 2 Install Questions - 16 years agoThanks very much John, I have already upgraded the OS and Quicktime so that's moot. FCS1 seems to be operating normally under the most recent OS version. Unfortunately this computer is used with a lot of other software and a complete wipe of the OS would require more reinstallation work than it would be worth unless upon doing the upgrade there were problems that could only be addressed tby Sprocketz - Café LA General FCS 2 Install Questions - 16 years agoA couple quick questions about installing FCS2 as over an existing FCS1 install. There are no current projects editing on the system so there shouldn't be any problems migrating projects. I have read the notes on the install disk and have upgraded the OS and Quicktime to the most current versions. I believe all the media such as sound loops were installed to default locations in the orby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: FCP Editors get paid less than AVID editors for the same work..... - 16 years agoShane, thanks very much for the post float tip. My hat is off to Mr. Raudonis. I think my point is true that many productions companies see more savings over the long run by paying editors significantly less than the savings they see on the gear. Several cable reality shows that I have had contact with here in LA pay poorly and work people into the ground. Personally I have been fortunaby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: FCP Editors get paid less than AVID editors for the same work..... - 16 years agoTwo things. 1. Don't know if anyone will see this since the one bad thing about this forum is that it doesn't keep busy threads at the top. 2. For those Final Cut editors that keep saying "I don't know why those Avid editors get paid so much more for the same work?" The right question should be "Why aren't we getting as much as the Avid editors?" Why are producersby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Making Flash movies - 16 years agoThanks Scott, looks like I am purchasing Flash CS3 next week.by Sprocketz - Café LA Making Flash movies - 16 years agoMy question. I have a client who wants a series of short edited video segments, 1-2 min long, to play from their website. They have specified that they want the finished segments delivered as both full size quicktimes and flash clips. My understanding is that Compressor doesn't do Flash. So what would be the best way to do this. Should I do this with Flash Pro 8 or should I purchaseby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: HD-DVD Hot Menus - 16 years agoUnderstood, Thanks John. Hopefully the new DVDSP will do true HD authoring. It would be a setback if it doesn't.by Sprocketz - DVD Studio Pro Re: HD-DVD Hot Menus - 16 years agoJohn, I am not sure if you have had the opportunity to watch a HD-DVD studio feature yet so let me explain and forgive me if this is just redundant. When the HD-DVD starts you get exactly the same type of menus on an SD dvd. You get a full screen main menu with branched menus to navigate to. Not sure if creating those is a different process now. What IS different is that during the movie yby Sprocketz - DVD Studio Pro Re: Can't import H.264 assets for HD DVD - 16 years agoBradley, I share your pain. This week I started experimenting with burning my first HD DVD's although via a standard DVD 5. First I tried it using MPEG2 with the stock setting for that in DVDSP4. Worked fine, I had some menu problems but the media itself played fine. The MPEG2 encoding wasn't that great and there was alot of blockiness and noise in dark areas. Overall it looked a little softby Sprocketz - DVD Studio Pro HD-DVD Hot Menus - 16 years agoI searched and didn't find the answer so apologies if this has already been answered. I purchased an HD-DVD player a couple weeks ago and found the pop-up menus during content play very interesting. I am now trying to create my first HD-DVD disks with some stock footage I have. I am not seeing any way to create the menus that can be accessed during content playing. I do both FCP and Avid here in L.A. The company I work freelance for has been renting Avid systems on and off for 2 1/2 years from a rental facility in Studio City. The rental house is all Avid. In that time frame they went from about 100 Avid systems for rent to over 300. They are busier than hell. And, as noted FCP has been growing phenomenally. Your graphics people should be able to provide legal graphic elements without resorting to additional work in the edit bay. I am doing it all the time with AE and not getting any broadcast rejections, but maybe that's just me. It would be interesting to know exactly what they objected to.
