Re: AJA/Blackmagic/Matrox shootout? - 13 years agoI think your point is valid Shane that a company can change, and it certainly seems as if Matrox has done so regarding their support of Mac products. Based on the capabilties of the MXO2 and what I've heard about them, I'd like a chance to work on one and try it out. This is a major step for me because I am one of those like Joe that was stepped on by ordering the RTMac. I get this all the time from Hollywood tech managers at big post houses who just shake their head in disbelief. Actually 24PA mode for the DVX-100 is 29.97 with a 2:3:3:2 pulldown applied. Typically standard def is 29.97. If you are placing 23.98 footage into a 29.97 sequence then you're always going to have a render bar even if everything else conforms. Andy PS: The ask to conform setting only works on sequences with nothing in them, and it doesn't work on copy and pasted material.by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: To Render or Not to Render... - 13 years ago10 bit 4:2:2 is not a format/codec. I saw what you wrote on your first post. What I'm asking for is the frame size of your clip and sequence (ie: 1920x1080, 720x486) and the codec (uncompressed, prores, dvcproHD, dv/ntsc, etc.) Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: what are the EAST SET UP Settings for the Canon D5 ? - 13 years agoQuoteWhen I see a typical Hollywood blockbuster DVD...pick one...they're using progressive, not interlaced, and it looks fantastic The typical Hollywood blockbuster is either shot on film at 24fps, or on a digital format, also at 24fps (23.976). They make progressive DVDs because the source material is progressive. Sony Z1U cannot shoot progressive. Something in your settings is not matching so rendering means that you'll be converting your original movie into the format/codec of your sequence. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCP doesn't see clip name when reconnecting (v. 6.0.6) - 13 years agoI think you be fine regarding your metadata. Now that you have your clips re-linked, select one, right-click and choose reconnect media. In the dialog box, does it show the proper name for the clip, or is it showing that drive name again? If it's showing the proper name, then I don't think you need to worry any further. Just cancel out, and continue editing. As a matter of fact, I used to use the top track with the opacity at 0. The reason I switched was because if the slug's on the bottom track, I can use the divider tool to lock it in place so that it's always visible no matter how many video tracks I have. Plus, if I'm adding more and more layers, it's easier than moving the slug track up constantly. Set it up in preferences to record peaks only (otherwise you get far too many keyframes) and then play through the sequence making real time adjustments with the track sliders. Then go back through with the "record keyframes" button off and make more minute adjustments. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Anybody use the OWC Mercury Elite Pro for RAID? - 13 years agoQuoteWhen you purchase the RAID it might be the pertinent thing to buy 1 spare HDD so in the unlikely event of a drive failure you can swap it out and not have to order and wait for it. Great idea. I think I will do that. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Anybody use the OWC Mercury Elite Pro for RAID? - 13 years agoYes, now I see why you thought that about the Elite Pro. I did indeed mean the Qx2 4-bay drive. I had a really bad experience with that eSATA extender though so I'd probably still get an eSATA card if I go that route. A computer guy told me that the eSATA connection on the motherboard that it connects to doesn't support port multiplying which would cause issues. That's the reason why the VR won't work for what I need. I've read that wiki before and used it for reference while I've been doing my research. It's not the RAID configurations that have me confused. I actually like the HDElement for my needs. I looked at the HDElement and it's certainly the most affordable SAS RAID that I could find, but I still have some questions about it. Unfortunately, the website is too vague, and I can't get a sales associate on the phone probably until Monday. If you use this, then I'd really appreciate your feedback. Firsby Andy Neil - Café LA Anybody use the OCW Mercury Elite Pro for RAID? - 13 years agoI'm delving into RAID territory for a home system. The system will be editing RED footage offline in 1080psf Pro Res. It will not be used for onlining. I'd like to set up a RAID 5, but I'm a bit confused because I've never set up a RAID before. The OCW Mercury Elite Pro says that it configures for RAID 5 and connects to the computer via eSATA. Assuming that, then you may not need 24p. If you're only shooting SD. But if you're shooting HD, then there are lots of TVs that display progressively as well as interlaced. Our editors must then manually delete the black frame. It sounds as if the first frame only contains the matte on a single field. Since you said you're editing HDV, I'm guessing you're editing interlaced. Is the timeline HDV? Where was the L3 gfx made? What format/codec is it? Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: White screens suddenly - 13 years agoThe white screen problem has happened to a lot of users after installing FCP 7, and apparently for a lot of different reasons. With me, the issue was a corrupt user profile, or files that were migrated from my old mac to my new mac. For others, some incompatibility arises when the install doesn't get rid of some FCS 2 files and the conflict creates the white screen issue. If you have Applecare, you should have no problem getting service on your FW ports. The eSATA problem though could be an issue with the particular card you have, or the drive. However, when I couldn't get it to work, I changed it to default in my user prefs as well. Here's an interesting tid-bit. I couldn't get 6 minutes without wanting to turn linking off. I find it's nice to have it on in the rough cut stage, but when I'm fine cutting it's damn annoying. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: But I don't want to trash my preferences - 13 years agoNick is right. You can change the preferences while working in FCP but when you quit and re-open, your default preferences are re-established. You will likely have issues with quality as going from 60i to 24p is not ideal.
