Re: windowmedia to work in FCP - 14 years agoIt's probably muxed audio, meaning that the audio stream is embedded inside the MPEG track. FCP doesn't recognize muxed audio which is why you can't hear anything. Download a free program called MPEG Streamclip. It can read the file, demux and then export it properly to a format you can edit in. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: aif trax vs. aiff trax? - 14 years agoPerhaps there's something glitchy in the file as it was sent over email. Try running the file through compressor with 48kHz uncompressed aiff setting. It shouldn't have any effect on the quality, but it might clean out what ever is causing the glitchy playback behavior. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Any solution to uneven titles scrolling at the end of the movie? - 14 years agoOf course my comment was a broad generalization. What other kind of generalizations are there? Despite that I haven't done any in-depth census-taking on the subject, I still hold that most people aren't watching a standard (read: boring) end credit sequence because they want to know who the 2nd unit assistant director was. Take away the names, and I bet they would have enjoyed the end sequence just as much. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Any solution to uneven titles scrolling at the end of the movie? - 14 years agoQuotegrafixjoeTitles are just as big a part of a project as the performances The titles (especially end titles) only matter to the people who worked on the project (and their lawyers). The audience couldn't care less. That said, if you want them to stay in their seats to read your name, you should make them enjoyable. Bars are essential obviously to ensure luminance and color consistency (or at least CYA). Slates are also essential because you never know who's going to be watching on the other end. Best to assume it's an idiot. The last time I delivered a countdown was for video playback at a live orchestral performance. The viby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Any solution to uneven titles scrolling at the end of the movie? - 14 years agoQuotederekmokBetter to do it in Photoshop. Or in Motion. In Motion you would create two text fields, one for the character's name, and the other for the actors. Then align them horizontally, and place into a single group where you can apply a behavior to scroll them, or use identical text scroll behaviors on the two text objects. If you want to stay in FCP, you can try the same technique.by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: My Mac is hating my "Light Rays" plug in... why? - 14 years agoQuotedigibodyIs this replacing the current card I have or adding on to them? Replace. FCP and Motion don't play well with multiple gfx cards. QuoteAre installation instructions included? There are probably instructions, but in all likelihood, when you open you're computer and look inside, you'll feel silly for asking that. It's really easy to replace a component like that. Unscrew two sby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: My Mac is hating my "Light Rays" plug in... why? - 14 years agoWithout seeing your project, it's impossible to say, but the two cards I mentioned have the largest texture limit available for Motion, so probably. Installing a card is a snap. Especially with a Mac. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: My Mac is hating my "Light Rays" plug in... why? - 14 years agoThough I don't own, the best card out there for Motion (and by extension, Motion FX) is the ATI 4870. Though the ATI 3870 is no slouch either. I believe they both have an 8K texture limit. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: animatte? - 15 years agoThis can be done in Motion. Send your clip to Motion. In Motion add an image mask (CMD+SHIFT+M). Click on the paint tool or the shape tool or the bezier tool and create your shape. When you're finished, drag the paint or shape layer and drop it on the source well of the image mask. Save and return to FCP. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: jumpy renders - 15 years agoNo, FCP doesn't distinguish. Rather, it's more likely that since you were working in a sequence that was different than your source footage, elements that required rendering before no longer do or at least can be displayed in real-time without rendering. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: jumpy renders - 15 years agoCreate a new sequence with the correct settings. Select all the clips in your current sequence and copy (CMD+C) and paste (CMD+V) into your new sequence. Select all the clips in your new sequence and hit CMD+OPT+V to Remove attributes. Don't check any of the boxes, but hit ok. This will drop the renders from all your clips. Re-render. It's a couple hundred, and I believe it has a 8K texture limit (2x my card). That's the card I'm looking to purchase. As far as settings in FCP, you can try lowering the amount of the effect. This may help and get you under the texture limit.by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: My Mac is hating my "Light Rays" plug in... why? - 15 years agoQuoteharry323So what is messing him up? I have a Mac Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 4 megs of RAM. That's sorta comparable to his setup, no? The most likely reason the OP's having problems is because he's pushed the effect so that the "rays" are being calculated off-frame past the limit of the graphics card. That's not the same thing as a gfx card. The decklink isn't required to render the light rays plugin. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: My Mac is hating my "Light Rays" plug in... why? - 15 years agoCards with larger texture limits give you more leeway with some effects, particularly Motion based effects. However, if you want to just do this effect, you should be able to accomplish it by sending your clip to Motion. Inside Motion, you have an option called Fixed Resolution which can confine the amount the rendering of the light rays effect to a set width and height. From there you jusby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: My Mac is hating my "Light Rays" plug in... why? - 15 years agoI believe that effect is dependent upon the texture limit of your graphics card. It sounds like you're coming up on it's limit. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Playhead stops at edit point - 15 years agoH.264 is a delivery codec, not an editing one although sometimes you can get away with it. It's always best practice to transcode the footage before editing. I suspect that all you did was change the codec in the sequence which is why everything is red. Do this. Take your source footage and drop it into Compressor. Use the ProRes preset to convert the source footage to ProRes. Of courseby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Playhead stops at edit point - 15 years agoI'm not sure I completely understand the question. Doing anything in the viewer will stop the playhead if it's moving in the timeline. In fact, there's not much that WON'T stop the playhead. However, if you're saying that when you hit play in the timeline that the playhead stutters (starts/stops) at every edit, then that's certainly cause for concern. I couldn't find any that really worked well at all. This is one of those, "you get what you pay for" type situations. Having said that, there is something you can do that doesn't cost money. Am I right in assuming that you're not getting an error of any kind, just that no clips are showing up in the Log and Transfer window? My guess is some kind of incompatibility between the elements. BTW, no one should take Ben up on his drinking game offer if there's money involved, cuz it's a sucker's bet. He's had his whole life to get used to the alcohol content in English beer. When I was in London years ago, I noticed that the Brits would drink American beer during lunch so they wouldn't get drunk. However, if it's just a gentlemanly game, then count me in. I recommend DVKitchen whose ad I believe you can find in the sidebar. It does a great job on flvs, movs, and wmvs. It's also quite a bit cheaper than other comparable conversion software on the market. Yes. The TC Reader filter in FCP does exactly that. It creates a visible burn of the metadata TC that was recorded when the original footage was shot.
