Re: 2 pixel sizes - 12 years agoThanks, I never knew that. I had always thought it was doing 720x404.6 for anamorphic. (maintaining the 720)by J.Corbett - Café LA 2 pixel sizes - 12 years agoWhat does it mean when you see something like...Dimensions: 720x486 (640x360)? Its in the QT specs under movie settings.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Video Mathematics - 13 years agoI found this a few days ago. Its very wide.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Video Mathematics - 13 years agoformulas like: aspect math resolution math conversion math color space This almost should be in a wiki. Doesn't have to be everything just some basics to keep in mind.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Quickest way to export project to USB drive - 13 years agoTheres a lot in there but..... The fastest way to deliver a project to a client is over the web. Smartphone read it and computers read it as a url link and both devices will play h264 fine. Download time will very but at ten minutes you are looking at 2mins plus depending on the encode. Start a youtube page and up load there thats will ensure smooth play on any device with a web connect.by J.Corbett - Café LA Video Mathematics - 13 years agoI thought it would be good to list some of the formulas that video editors should know. I edit and hardly ever consider the math and i am sure there are others just like me. Recently a broadcast editor told me something like, " The file size when you in code is simply the bit rate times the current file size." I don't believe this to be true due to the resolution variable. I mby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Main Drive Storage - Allocation Diagnostics - 13 years agoHey Thanks a lot. Once i read about that program it gave me better verbiage to search. I did Grand Perspective but i also found this: http://www.derlien.com/ does the same thing in the same way but it gives a drawer that tells you exactly what you are clicking/hovering over. things like exact file name and the path. I am using them both till i figure out which is best.by J.Corbett - Café LA Main Drive Storage - Allocation Diagnostics - 13 years agoI have a 750gig main drive and right now it says that 586gigs full. I normally do not use this drive to store pictures, video, or documents. Its all os and applications, oh and also a itunes folder thats 48gigs. I have searched this drive to find what is taking up space as i do not beleive that the apps are equating to 586gigs, but thats also why I am posting this. My app folder on get iby J.Corbett - Café LA Web Video Specialist Needed - 13 years agoI need to consult with a web video specialist to create a FAST loading video gallery that is editable. Meaning videos can be added or removed with tittle and subtitled as needed.by J.Corbett - Jobs Re: camera store in vegas - 13 years agoThere are a lot of stores in Vegas that deal with video. I don't think you will have a hard time to find one. Remember NAB is there every years along with a plethora of other film industry events. - I used them a couple of times before, decent stuff BTW, dont for get you can get a chopper ride over almost anything near vegas for 119. bucks or less. You will have to be handheld in the chopby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Looks Composition and Uniforming multi cam shots - 13 years agoWhere is Jeff Harell and derekmok when ya need them? This so philosophy. Seriously though, this has to have been discussed before somewhere. I personally feel that it doesn't have to but i am wondering the industry habits.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: has anyone seen this res for broadcast. - 13 years agoHey strypes, what would u suggest in this case when the file i have is the only one available? should i have converted in Compressor.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: has anyone seen this res for broadcast. - 13 years agoYeah, interesting. It looked the same kind of ugly when i was done though. The makers are 3 guys between the ages of 19 - 25. It was done in Vegas. They are the owners son & nephews. I did talk to them today but it was like training some one to use basic common sense rules. The only have their output file which is the same as what i have.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: has anyone seen this res for broadcast. - 13 years agoAND its interlaced. Its the same size in QT info also. I put it in the 720 TL you see there and made it make sense i also went to 29.97fps. I figured if you guys had not seen it before and i hadn't then discussing this with the creators would be futile. The funny thing is my contact at the station says that they could play it because it would auto convert. That's sketchy.by J.Corbett - Café LA Looks Composition and Uniforming multi cam shots - 13 years agoOk, I have gotten relatively comfy with looks. I use them in variable strengths in almost everything now. So i am wondering if there is a vaguely suggested protocol to keep in mind when using looks. i.e. Music Video a = at the beach b = alley at night c = parking lot So here are my cams / angles Angle 1&2a Angle 1&2b Angle 1&2c Over the lengby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Footage formats - 13 years ago25p is pal aka not in America. In the USA its 24p or 23.98 same thing. If you have not shot this yet, which it seems you haven't. Take nicks advice. only shoot 720p60 for the shots that you feel that you want to be slow mo. Sometimes i use 2 hmc's to shoot the same shot. 1 is set to 1080p24 and the other set to 720p60. CinemaTools or Motion are good places to slow down footage. Fcp creaby J.Corbett - Café LA has anyone seen this res for broadcast. - 13 years agoHas anyone seen this res before in a broadcast application? I have to correct it for another production house. They really dont mind the aspect but i do.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Best (Video file to QT Converter & Subtitling Programs out there? - 13 years agoHey, there is someone on this forum that has a very nice subtitling program. I think its Andreas Keil you may want to pm him about it. I don't think you can do better than MPEG clipstream for ts ripping. Maybe Toast Titanium but most of us use mpeg clipstream.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Advice Needed on Camera to Purchase - 13 years agoHMC150 all the way my friend. They can talk about other cams but i have really yet to see an equivalent for many reasons. If technology move up in this area the HMC150 will still be relevant. Once nano flash competitors start making slightly cheaper versions the hmc will be a very tough to beat even with lower-line P2 cameras. I have used them on a 3 day hike with a laptop. Sports anby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: EFX Handling the shadows - 13 years agoI know but they didn't have the budget. But i did want the shadows cause i "thought" that i could keep them separate enough for masks. I went ahead and done it in motion. I wish something simple like that could be done efficiently in fcp. I really would like to roto the performers out for effects but again, they don't have the budget. Quoteshane Or get big giant silks on hugby J.Corbett - Café LA EFX Handling the shadows - 13 years agoI have got this shot that i am trying in a new video. Its basically that i left a cam in the same angle and allowed the band to set up 1 by 1. I spaced them so that i could crop them out and have them fade in while they set up. very old school effect. The think is that i have cut offs in the shadows. I dont want to eliminate the shadow but i need to cut it out somehow. Could use motionby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Using XML or Nested Template for broadcast roll-in - 13 years agoI think i will use the Motion Method. I should have thought of this but I have been in AE a lot lately and motion has been getting a little dusty.by J.Corbett - Motion Using XML or Nested Template for broadcast roll-in - 13 years agoI have a lot more stuff going to broadcast these days. They require the usual bar&tone>black>slate>black then there is the commercial. I have a project with 3 SEQ in it that i named "To Broadcast 15s", "To Broadcast 30s", and "To Broadcast 1m" that has this set up with this so that all i have to do is drop the commercial in, render it and export the &quoby J.Corbett - Motion Re: Kingston SD Victims Unit - 13 years agoNo its on an HMC150. It cant read the card either. I get card check errors.by J.Corbett - Café LA Kingston SD Victims Unit - 13 years agoI was in a rush one day to film a """"Wedding""""". This is something i hardly do as to avoid Bridezilla's but it was for a friend and done for nearly free. So i stopped in to micro-center to find a class6 sd and the only ones they had was Kingston and some brand i had never heard of. So like Einstein's offspring i purchased the toilet paper paintby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: SSD Lighting fast but NOT there yet. - 13 years agoPrice is the main issue. That Ramsan is extra sexy but probably 40k+. I would guess that in 3-5trs it will be cheaper because of another new thing and more manufacturers to compete with. I would love to have a nice 12TB SSD raided in 4tb pairs but not while that will only cost 2k with current efficiently working methods. The HDD will live until there is only a 20% cost difference.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: SSD Lighting fast but NOT there yet. - 13 years agoYou guessed it Andy. I had a slow February so with only 2 projects in queue I am try to let my Geek-Out a little bit.by J.Corbett - Café LA SSD Lighting fast but NOT there yet. - 13 years agoThis started in another thread and i searched the forum and found no thread on it so............... I just read a bunch on the new SSD's for mac. 1. Max capacity right now is 512gigs under 1k. I think that this is good for a main drive with your applications and such but not as a storage unit. 60% of my projects are plus 300g in HD footage alone. With that litmus i would buy a drive perby J.Corbett - Café LA OT: New LG 2750's - 13 years agoI just got a new LG 2750 computer monitor. I did some basic color calibrations and started using it. I also compared my MBP monitor to it. I am unsure if the MBP monitor is IPS or not but.... The LG performs the same in all areas but a bit better in over all color. Black seem slightly more prevalent than the MBP but i think its a notable monitor for 419USD. So i am recommending this monitorby J.Corbett - Café LA |
