Re: OH . . . MY . . . GOD - 13 years agoSadly, another veteran FCP User jumps ship to Avid (how unusable does new software have to be to get this violent and business changing reaction?) FCP Pioneer Marcus Solorio's moving to Avidby Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: OH . . . MY . . . GOD - 13 years agoStarted playing with Premiere - and using the Final Cut Pro 7 Keyboard layout - it's nearly like editing in FCP7 - but faster -- there are some commands that don't seem to working and have to figure out how to map those. Also doesn't seem to be a way to use the pen tool to keyframe in the timeline but I'm sure if I read a bit - there is Very sad to have invested the last decade becoming an FCby Andy Field - Café LA - X Sadly - Premiere Pro 5.5 is looking better - 13 years agoIf you want to sit through the demo - it's the additions many FCP7 editors wanted with 64bit speed without the Imovie interface Premiere Pro 5.5 demoby Andy Field - Café LA - X Maybe XML import/export is already built in to Final Cut Pro X - a look under the hood - 13 years agoInteresting blog from someone who knows how to peak inside the FCP X engine -- He found scripting for future xml import but theorizes that Apple didn't have time to finish it yet -- read here: XML just waiting inside FCPX code?by Andy Field - Café LA - X Good overview on what you think is missing - and isn't - 13 years agoYes the OMF XML no tape or monitor support etc is distressing, but this article explains a few things I thought you couldn't do (but in fact can) including turning off magnetic timeline, getting your list views back - getting rid of thumbnail timelines (sorry storylines) etc Useful information we may be overlooking go here: Editors FCP X concerns - and some answersby Andy Field - Café LA - X Additional FCPX and Motion 5 goodies in Software Update - 13 years agoIn case you didn't see it (or weren't scheduled to update software) There's more to download - check software update in your System Preferences as soon as you install FCPX and Motion5by Andy Field - Café LA - X Before everyone blows a gasket.....great Steve Martin tutorial here - Free - 13 years agoPosted on Ken Stone's Site First Look Final Cut X - Explained although even Steve admits there's some glaring omissions....by Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 13 years agoNo XML Export (AAF Boris and Auto Duck to Avid? not yet?) No way (at least not obvious) to control where you put render files and raw video -puts it all in Movies folder on main hard drive (no portability from one machine to another) Video out for real world monitor color correction (nothing obviously there unless someone's seen it) Arrange audio tracks for export to audio finishing progby Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 13 years agoA few first impressions 1 - no real time audio mixer (or none I can find) where you can keyframe and move volume in realtime (the mixer is one of the great tools in FCP 7 and earlier 2 - keyboard shortcuts seem dramatically changed - although you can remap to anything you'd like 3 - interesting useful new transitions and filters - would help if more things came up with contextual controby Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: Motion 5 pics - Apple Insider - 13 years agoIf only Congressman Weiner was a beta tester and tweeted this instead........by Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: Avid training for an FCP user? - 13 years agoJust bought the Kevin McAulliffe Tutorial here: Avid for Final Cut Webinar It is OUTSTANDING -- the best explanation I've seen on how to transfer what you know in Final Cut to Avid -- he flips back and forth between the two programs -- "See you import this way in FCP -- and FLIP - this is how you do AMA File linking in AVID" "you map your keys in FCP like this -- FLIP - andby Andy Field - Avid Media Composer Re: Avid training for an FCP user? - 13 years agoand here's another if you prefer a DVD Avid for FCP Training DVD I've worked both - prefer FCP but have clients that want me to deliver an AVID timeline to post into their shows - so I use Automatic Duck and conform in AVID to make sure it all carries over (not as painless as it should be and a lot of Texas two step dancing to get files to reconnect - and not really Auto Duck's fault - Avidby Andy Field - Avid Media Composer Re: Avid training for an FCP user? - 13 years agothis looks like a good resource Avid for FCP Boot Campby Andy Field - Avid Media Composer Re: Beauty w/ One Small Blemish - 13 years agothere are some plugins that clone an area - take part of face from another area and move it over the blemish - but it will probably require motion tracking in Motion or After effects unless you want to spend the weekend keyframing by hand you can do this with CHV's plugins go here: CHV Clone plug inby Andy Field - Café LA Re: fcp to imovie formats - 13 years agoPretty sure imovie will import almost anything - just open imovie and chose import -- it's opened xdcam hd files for us ...by Andy Field - Café LA How to make Imovie look nearly like the new FCP X - 13 years agoInteresting -- how to get used to the new final cut before it comes out Imovie transforms into FCP X look alikeby Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: CalDigit VR Mini RAID Question - 13 years agoI've found XDCAM anything to be most troublesome and disk/processor intensive - but anything like that I've had better luck and speedier edits in Raid 0 -- Prores doesn't seem to take as big a hit on disk or processor as Joey indicated.by Andy Field - Café LA Re: CalDigit VR Mini RAID Question - 13 years agoThe answer is yes - the speed will drop as CalDigit folks say -- if you feel the need for speed - connect the drive with a SATA cord (it will remain bus powered on a laptop with firewire connected simultaneously - you need laptop that allows SATA connection with add on card or to a MAC PRO tower -- but it is screaming fast via SATA -- just back up your material to an other less speedy drive --by Andy Field - Café LA Re: You knew this was coming - Final Cut X Parody - 13 years agoBut wait there's more -- the Final Cut Rap (if this hasn't already been posted) Not sure who did this but it's spot on The Final Cut Pro Rap!by Andy Field - Café LA - X You knew this was coming - Final Cut X Parody - 13 years agoGermany's Vanguished Leader Not Happy about Final Cut Xby Andy Field - Café LA - X OT: Best Format/bit rate audio for Broadcast Web Upload - 13 years agoCreating Video News Release for local station broadcast - in past have done MPEG 1 or 2 - but major manufacturers are uploading video for broadcast download as H264 1920 x 1080 with ACC Audio -- is there a best compressor setting anyone can recommend -- Episode 6 setting? Thanks for your advice - Andyby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 13 years agoWe saw that speculation round table before the event But not denying it doesn't mean it doesn't exist! He was on an NDA and couldn't say anything specific - Denying it would have violated the contract he signed! No mention of this one way or another in the official preview last night. It's silly speculating on what isn't there until we get all the facts - it would seem counterprodby Andy Field - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 13 years agoJoe - where did you see there no tape in or out in this new final cut - haven't seen that mentioned in a single blog, tweet or new articleby Andy Field - Café LA - X OT: Nanoflash - great tool - 13 years agoBeen shooting for a month with NanoFlash off an HDCAM Camera (old tape style) out of SDI for a month on the road. It is outstanding -- 32 and 64 Gig cards from Camera to your computer in under 15 minutes -- quicktime wrapped P2 format or XDCAM Format ready to edit - no long and transfer - extremely fast. As for time saving with the Calibrated Software - the time saved is in waiting for Log and Transfer to rewrap MXF files into Quicktime -- when you are under deadline - this is a big time saver.by Andy Field - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX 1080i60 footage is jumpy - 13 years agothis is a great plug in MXF Files natively in Final Cut Plug In Turning to pro-res is a bit more tedius -- take the raw Quicktime Files that you've spent time watching grass grow getting re-wrapped from MXF -- bring those into compressor and export at ProRes-- you can also do this right within FinalCut (Export using quicktime conversion) or Quicktime 7 Player - all every time consumingby Andy Field - Café LA |
