Sorry this has nothing to do with FCP X.... Just about using FCP 6 and trying to get paid for it! :-) Just finishing a job and learned a great lesson: always have the client sign a budget/schedule document. Sorry guys for the late reply. Your advices are greatly appreciated. I don't need the media this time, thanks god.... But I might not be so lucky next time. So I will try Disk warrior or Disk Utility maybe... Or I'll return the drive since I bought it last Saturday.... But for sure I need to invest in one of these UPS then. How do you protect your drives from a power outage: UPS? - 13 years ago
During this weekend storm in LA, I lost power at my home while working from my brand new G Tech. After the 1 minute power outage I got a message saying that I needed to reformat my drive... I was still able to work (media is on the drive) but I couldn't export anything on it...I guess I need a UPS or something like that?... But.... $$ are a concern. Any suggestions? The best one is... the one you have! Don't worry about these fancy keyboards with colors.... They look cool sure and impress clients but the truth is that if you spend enough time editing you won't be looking at the keyboard, the same way you don't look at it when you type. Plus, you will create your own keyboard shortcuts. If you use a mouse, a trackball or a tablet, you won't use your keyboarby xavpil - Café LA

The problem is that I know what I want, but can't seem to figure out how to make it happen so I was hoping that someone might give me an idea while sharing their set up. I'll just have to live with my current set ups I guess.by xavpil - Café LA

Another reason why we might need a redesigned FCP: After I started a thread about screen estate usage I realized that I wasn't the only one struggling with it. And people who don't seem to struggle seem to me they are doing the best with what they have and can do. Let's remember FCP and Avid were designed in the area of 4:3 monitors... Way more vertical space than 16:9. Why can't they useby xavpil - Café LA - X

I guess it also depends what you are working on. I rarely go the browser. In fact I'll always be limited with the need of having a window(canvas or viewer) above the TL What size monitors do you use?by xavpil - Café LA

Same with me actually I'm ok with small browser and viewer but I always have a lot of tracks... I tried the whole TL on the left and canvas on the right. But there's a whole eye / hand coordination that's not working: looking back and forth L/R vs. Up/Down... Maybe what I need is a huge monitor for TL - canvas and a small for Browser/Viewer....by xavpil - Café LA

I am curious to see how you guys use your two monitors because I feel like I am not using the screen estate very well. I have two 24" monitors: on the left: timeline/canvas/viewer/browser but it is too small for my time line and canvas. And on the left I have the right monitor for only for Safari, Finder windows and other applications. Once in a while I preview full screen so it's conveniby xavpil - Café LA

I have some mp4 files I need to edit from. The final spot will go on YT or on my website. I am using MPEG Streamclip to convert the files into a FCP friendly codec. What do you guys recommend as export settings?by xavpil - Café LA
