Geeky FCP questions from the front. - 16 years agoGreetings fellow FCP geeks. Have been doing a lot of FCP work in the wee hours of the morning and am running into some challenges. Maybe there are some simple solutions! Would be very grateful for feed back. 1. How do I apply a border filter to the cropped edge of a picture? Am doing a lot of split screens where one cropped picture zooms across the screen to occupying half of the canvaby paurray - Café LA Re: Lacie Drive Won't Mount - 17 years agoI have have about 6 firewire drives lying around and they´ve all acted up at some point. Not letting themselves mount. Have thankfully not lost a drive to date, knock wood. And yes I have a Lacie which gets slammed on this forum all the time. It´s one of those Big disk Extreme triple Interface things! It recently wouln´t mount using firewire 800. I tried numerous restarts and vaby paurray - Café LA tips for working with Nodes (Conduit in FCP) - 17 years agoDear Users I´m coming from a very classical editing background. Never could get into AE and Co. Flirted with shake but nothing serious. Now I´m looking at Conduit. And like it but the learning curve is killing me. Have checked out most of the Tutorials over at dvGarage. Further have checked out the lacquer Blog. I understand that I can pick and mix filters to my hearts content. Aby paurray - Café LA Re: reconnecting oddities - 18 years agoHi Mike I restarted. Still gone. Also did a couple of searches in the finder and I believe that the clips are gone. The only thing that I can think of is the Black Magic card. Forgot to mention this. It´s the basic HD card. Can´t remember exactly how it was but I did capture using alternatively DV Pal and Blackmagic Pal. I have lots of suspicious looking files with either av or v at the endby paurray - Café LA reconnecting oddities - 18 years agoreconnecting oddities I´ve got 6 offline timelines (miniDV) and was in the process of doing an online when things started getting odd. I made copies of my timelines. Made the material offline (leave material on disk) in the copies of my timelines. Went off and proceeded with the online. A day later I opened my now old offline timelines. Hey presto some clips were suddenly offline. Workflow reality check 1) capture material 1080i 60p DVCProHD format over SDI (we currently have no fire wire card for the recorder!) 2) use the panasonic frame rate convertor plug in FCP to convert our 60 frames material into a 25 frame time line. The question is then what should the timeline settings be? One way of understanding this frame raby paurray - Café LA Re: Mad Pal varicam question in NTSC forum, help! - 18 years agoMany thanks Clay, We now have other problems. But perhaps I/we will get in touch in the future. By the way we´re here in Niederbayern! by "blue paw artists" we don´t want to use the frame conversion because we´d have to encode the material twice. On the way in and out i.e. quality would suffer. we would have problems batching because of the slow motion and last but by no means lby paurray - Café LA Re: Mad Pal varicam question in NTSC forum, help! - 18 years agoHi ClayC We can get it into the system (FCP) with the Black Magic (HD SDI)... Our problem is how can we get the 60p material into a 25p timeline without losing the slow motion effect. With respect to the 59.94 Hz and 60 Hz Question, I can not answer this we only have the recorder and can press the counter button on the recorder and it shows either 25 or 60! Depending on whether the camera manby paurray - Café LA Mad Pal varicam question in NTSC forum, help! - 18 years agoMad Pal varicam question in NTSC forum, help! Here in Europe (germany) I have encountered the following problem with variable frame rates 1. The camera men have filmed with 60p for slow motion effects. 2. We need to get our 60p material into a 25p time line because, yes it´s PAL land (I know this is a NTSC forum!) 3. If we can manage the above then getting it back out in 25p to tape should bby paurray - Café LA Re: OT: Upgrade to Final Cut Studio for $99.00 - 18 years agoHi John I don´t understand these things either but what if as rumor has it (think secret, yes I know, to be taken with a large bag of salt) there was to be a more upmarket FCP as well. A FCP Extreme or what ever which of course would be more expensive. Would this make sense? Paul Murrayby paurray - Café LA Re: Off-Topic with apologies: salaries - 18 years agoJude if the competition really is better and/or cheaper than me, and given that "you know how good/expensive I am, why are we still talking?" Sad but true, it was actually formulated as a question which makes it all just a little bit nastier. i.e. Is it possible the the other guy is better and cheaper? With the emphasis on cheaper of course. I had worked for them before and they weÂby paurray - Café LA Re: Off-Topic with apologies: salaries - 18 years agoDear fellow FCP users, and Adam in particular I´m going to try and put myself in the shoes of the potential client here. It´s all a VERY black and white so my apologies in advance too the many clients/editors who have a sense of fair play and will inevitably read this. For me it has to do with 4 things, supply, demand experience and quality (as defined in Zen and the art of Motor Cycle Mainteby paurray - Café LA Re: Off-Topic with apologies: salaries - 18 years agodear FCP editors I am living in Berlin, Germany and have being following all of the above linked threads with great interest. At our last BFCPUG meeting (no prizes for what that stands for) the question of payment also came up. Specifically two aspects we´re mentioned one was that FCP is really cheap and so people seem to expect FCP editors to be cheap. The other was that people usualy want toby paurray - Café LA |
