Hi everyone, A lot of time has passed since I first heard that using special characters and spaces in file names and footage logs is a big no-no due to possible interference with computer language. Is this still an issue? I have some files that I would like to include parentheses in the file name but am reluctant to do so until I hear otherwise. Graphics card compatible with FCP7 and CS6? - 11 years ago
Hi, I'm still working with FCP7. Lately I've been working in HD and even though I have an ATI Radeon HD 3870 card, the performance is very sluggish and I have long render times. It's almost like FC is not even recognizing the card. I have been told recently that the ATI Radeon HD 3870 card is for gaming and not for editing and that I need to get a new card to handle HD editing. I still runby shelleyrae - Café LA

Most of the footage I'm working with was shot on a Cannon XF300. I loaded it via FCP7 Log and Transfer. The sequence settings are HDTV 1080i 16:9, Compressor: Apple Pro Res 422. The other footage was shot on a Xacti which makes MP4 files. I converted that footage to Apple Pro Res 422 to match the other camera. Hope this is enough info. Thanks for your help. P.S. Hi Everyone, I'm working on a large HD project and experiencing extremely long render times when I try to add any filters or effects to my timeline. I have 10 GB of RAM (which is configured properly) and an ATI Radeon HD 3870 Graphics cards with 512 Vram. Hi, I just added an external Raid docking station using the eSATA Extender Cable from OWC. I want to be able to share my video files with people who are using Premiere Pro on a PC. Hi, I'm working on a project that the camera person shot with three different cameras. With two of the cameras, he used the same format settings so I have set up my sequence setting accordingly. It's hi def - 1920 x 1080, 30fps. Working with footage from these two cameras with my current sequence setting is not a problem--everything plays back in real time and it looks great. Thanks everyone. I actually have PP CS5 installed and started playing around with it today. It seems similar enough to FC and being familiar with After Effects, I don't think it will be that painful to learn, if need be. I appreciate all the feedback. Hi everyone, From the few articles I've read it seems professional editors are very disappointed with Final Cut X for a variety of reasons. What I've gathered is that it's not really designed for professional editors, but rather more of souped-up version of iMovie for the consumer market. Now I have another question: They used three different cameras for this shoot so I'm now working with different sizes as well as different frame rates. Hi, I'm working with HD1080i footage. Should the field dominance be set to upper or lower in my sequence settings? Hi you guys, Up until now, the longest show I've ever edited has been 15 minutes. I just got this huge project editing a documentary with a final running time of 1-1.5 hours. There are 500 gigs of hi def (1080p60) footage on an external Firewire drive. Can some please give me advice on workflow for a project this size? Hi, I'm thinking about getting a new MacBook Pro for portable editing. But the new MacBook Pros come with Lion installed. I want to continue using Final Cut Studio 3 because I use everything in that suite. I also have several hundred dollars invested third party plugs-in that work beautifully with Motion 4 and Final Cut 7. I haven't worked much with HD footage, so need some help. We just got a Canon XF300. We are updating the client's speaking demo reel. His current reel contains various formats from many speaking venues. It has some hi-def, a lot of standard def. The sequence settings are currently at 720 x 480. Thanks for the feedback Derek and Walter. When I play the DVD so called "master" I don't see the stepping. It actually looks pretty good. What if I recorded the DVD to a digital tape and then captured the footage from the tape. Do you think that would work?by shelleyrae - Café LA

Yes I understand the quality and compounding compression issues using DVD masters but that's all the client has to work with and I need the money so I'm doing the job. I don't understand why the sequence setting doesn't default to the Apple Pro Res compression when I drop it in the timeline. I though FC adjusts. Do I need to manually change the compression in the sequence setting to Pro Res bby shelleyrae - Café LA

Hi Everyone. Happy Holidays! I'm working with source footage from DVD masters. I use MPEG Streamclip to extract the media using the Apple Pro Res 422 codec at medium quality. After editing I export a full quality QT file and bring into Compressor to make a Youtube file using the Compressor Youtube preset. Hi, I'm working with five different sizes - 1920 x 1080, 720 x 480, 720 x 486, 864 x 486, 1280 x 720. I want the final output to be 1280 x 720 so that it fits the Youtube dimensions and is the best quality. I thought I could start my timeline using 1280 x 720 sequence settings but when I start placing my various clips I get all kinds of weird sizes, black bars on top and bottom on some ofby shelleyrae - Café LA

It contains my Motion Master projects, Photoshop files, stock footage, etc. I know I should have kept this on a another media drive, but for several reasons, I didn't. Okay - I guess I can live with combining the letterbox with non. Maybe I can put a fake letterbox on the other footage to make it look like it matches. Here's another problem I'm having: I'm working with Tech Blue Motion HD template. I'm trying to footage of a speaker into the drop zone on the left. Thank you, Hal. We did figure out finally that it was the DVD player setting that was creating the "Previously Viewed Disc" message. You bring up a good point about delivery for a glass master. I did not know that. I'm a little unclear on the procedure. Would I make a Disc Image of the DVDSP Project? Or do I need to author the DVD to a DVD disc, then make a Disc Image from that?
