Looking for External Raid...Which is best? - 9 years ago
I have been asked by my employer to purchase a raid array for back-up on our edit system. Here are a few specs that I will be asked for... Mac Pro Early 2008, 2x 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xenon 4 Gigs Ram Final Cut Pro 7 Starting to use some HD footage and accumulating finished projects, so I need more storage. Hi All, My department is applying for an equipment grant and I am looking into an external drive setup. I will probably be using it to archive old projects and clear out my internal raid drives. At this time and for the forseeable future I am aquiring and editing in DV/DVCAM, so I probably don't need the bestest/fastest, but need something reliable. Can't hear audio tracks - 13 years ago
Hi All, I was just editing along as usual when suddenly I realized that I could no longer hear any of the audio tracks except A1 & A2 which play fine. There is audio on tracks A3-A6, I know, because I can see it reflected in the audio meter. However I can't hear it either through the computer or sending it to my deck. If I move all the audio to A1 & A2, I can hear it fine. I have tby Barry - Café LA

Hello all, Hoping you can give me some guidence on this. I authored 2 separate programs on 2 separate disks with lots of chapters. Now they have asked about putting both programs on 1 disk. Hmmmmmm. Well I am finally in that position of being between projects and was thinking that this would be a good time to upgrade. I'm not going to being upgrading to Snow Leopard or FCP7 quite yet, and Currently I am running Mac OSX 10.5.4 and FCP6.0.4. What is the most stable upgrade I should try while staying with OSX 10.5.x and FCP6.x.x ?by Barry - Café LA

Hi All, I'm trying to archive some old projects that I have been working on with another user. I edited some and he edited some and now I need to access his files and projects. I am being denied access from my account, so I am having to ping-pong back and forth between accounts. Is there a way to grant me access without going to each clip and sequence and changing from "read only" tby Barry - Café LA

Thanks guys, You are right, the size of the files gives it away and yes, probably human error. My next question is HOW? I exported the files one after the other and can't figure out HOW I would have managed to uncheck and recheck and unrecheck that box so many times. It's default setting is checked (right?) and I don't conciously recall unchecking the box. So how does it get unchecked and thby Barry - Café LA

Hello everyone, I am stumped and need to turn to your collective expertise. After completing a series of training vignettes, I exported them as individual QT Movies and moved them to my newer MacPro. About half of them give me the following error message when I try to play them. The movie file"filename-FIN00000003" cannot be found. I [osted this question on the DVDSP forum and received no answer. Maybe someone here can answer it. After importing assets into my DVDSP project I notice that the "Status" lights are different colors. Some are green and some are orange. What is the meaning of these lights? Is orange bad? I just recently purchased a one year old I-Mac with FCS2 installed from a friend and need to purchase an external drive for video capture. There seemed to be a lot of back and forth a couple of months ago about which manufacturer was better and which ones were but have stumble a little. Hi All, My new Mac Pro, which has been humming along beautifully for months now, is suddenly giving me the following error: Burn error ox8002006E The burn failed because of a medium write error I have tried 2 different brands of dvds and an old project that burned successfully a few weeks ago. When to use Motion - 14 years ago
Hi All, I noticed that when I open Motion, the default time is set for 10 seconds. This made me wonder how long, time wise, are typical Motion projects. I haven't used motion before, only FCP. I am looking to make an 8 minute music video. Is that too long to try to do in Motion or should I stay with FCP? Thanx Barryby Barry - Motion

Hello all, I'm still struggling with wrapping my mind around MOtion so please bear with me. Here's what I have going on. I loaded in one of the master templates into motion...no problem there. What I want to do is repeat it several times down the timeline. This is my first effort using motion so please bear with me....I made a short sequence in motion using a couple .jpg and one of the provided templates. Nothing complicated. When I export it and then import it into FCP I can see the animation play in the canvas but only see a freeze frame on my ntsc monitor. The FF changes to match where I am on the timeline when I start and stop but no motionby Barry - Motion

I just got a FS-4Pro HD Portable DTE Recorder and have a couple choices to make. Two of the capture settings are Quicktime and Raw DV. I am guessing that the one I should us is the QT, but since I am not sure what Raw DV is, I am not sure. What is Raw DV, and is it a better or worse choice than QT? I am working in SD DV format. I finally got my employer to buy me a MacPro and I am updating the software. OSX 10.5.3 is on the Apple download site but I don't find any comments on it here. Is anyone using 10.5.3 or is it still an unknown version. I don't want to get too far ahead of the curb and find out it makes my system unstable. Barryby Barry - Café LA

OOPS! Got my kitties mixed up. Trying to hurry too much...I meant Leopard. So what I got off of a previous post as to stable config using 10.5 is: FCP 6.03 - QT 7.4.5 - OS 10.5.2 but that was on a Intel MBP and Jude had FCP 6.0.1 and QT 7.3.1 but didn't give an OS version anyone have ideas on stable 10.5 versions?by Barry - Café LA

I am finally getting a Mac Pro Octo-core and the update to FCS2. Should I update Tiger before I install and update FCS2? From what I have read on the forum, the most stable FCS-Tiger-QT is FCP 6.0.3 - OS 10.5.2 - QT 7.4.5. I hope that this is still true. Barryby Barry - Café LA
