Re: Output Movie w/Source Timecode? - 12 years agowell, i'm here, and yes, there is probably a way, but i don't get it. Did you sync your clips in FCP and now want to see the TC that comes from the sound instead of the video? IOW, can you be more specific what you have right now?by bouke - Café LA Re: Subtitles - ¿How wide should they be? - 12 years agoBesides all other comments... There is no real answer about size. Common is to use a condensed font. If it is for projection on a large screen, make them way smaller than if it is for a normal TV. Rule of thumb, for SD on TV you have to fight the space in amount of characters... It used to be 42 chars on a line max, but nowadays you can relax that to about 46 to 50 Note that not all charsby bouke - Café LA - X Re: Audio with dslr cameras - 12 years agoOh dear, you just made things more complicated! (but still doable, if indeed the start/stop hit offsets the clock with a fixed amount...) What cams did have this behaviour? (there is no logic in it, unless the clock is somehow related to the recording part of the system, and i can't understand why that would be the case if you run free run instead of rec run. So i suspect your cams are ableby bouke - Café LA Re: Audio with dslr cameras - 12 years agoWell, it's even worse. ALL devices drift. (My mac is slow a couple of seconds over 24 hour...) That's why i wrote: > (and perhaps last) The logic behind that: (pointy ears mode ON) All device clocks run slower or faster than the 'real clock'. But, they all are stable in their speed. With my software you can sync a couple of hundred Bwfs and QTs in less than a minute. Syncing by hand is possible, but only if there is a decent clap. If there is not, it is hell, especially if you don't have any reference. I'm currently working on a way that uses the cam's internal clby bouke - Café LA Ok, here is one solution... - 12 years agoTook me a bit longer than suspected, but it's done. QTchange now can offset a Quicktime sound track, either positive or negative, and way more subtile than just per frame. (You can enter the value in Milliseconds) Get QTchange here: (and yes, there is a free demo)by bouke - Café LA Re: true 24 fps media (not film or HD) to 23.98 project - 12 years agoFor the record: Cinema Tools does NOT change the playback speed, it changes the FPS for 'intended' speed. I know it sounds funny, but there is a reason for being anal here... A quicktime is flagged with two speeds. The speed it was recorded (and most of the time that is the speed intended for playback, unless you shot slomo), and there is a playback speed. Now changing the playback speedby bouke - Café LA Re: Alexa Guide Track Sync - 12 years agoQuite funny you bring an Arri to a low cost shoot, and more you bring a Zoom for sound. Nevertheless, i'll build in a sync offset option in QTchange tomorrow, so you can batch fix this kind of files.by bouke - Café LA Re: Pulling 24p out of a 60p ProRes clip? - 13 years agoForget it. You can't go from 60i or 60p to 24p without pain. (Shooting 60 for slomo is of course a good idea...) Think about it, you need to trash 36 frames every second. You could go to 30 quite easilly, by removing every other frame... But most imporant, what is your delivery? If it is DVD, bluray, broadcast or internet, there is no reason NOT to use 30 (or 29.97) This way you can goby bouke - Café LA Re: Closed-Captioning - 13 years agoSimple, use the menu, pick a Video_TS. Perhaps VLC will display CC also, not sure, have not tested....by bouke - Café LA Re: Closed-Captioning - 13 years agowell, you don't have to burn a DVD, software can decode it as well. (at least Apple's DVD player can do it, although with the bugs i've mentioned.) Otherwise you need a CC decoder, and i'm afraid you have to shop at CPC.by bouke - Café LA Re: Closed-Captioning - 13 years agoIn what form is it in the files? If you are lucky, you could burn a DVD and keep the CC info. (be aware that the Apple DVD player has a bug, CC in the center is not displayed, top and bottom is)by bouke - Café LA Re: Inserting time code into quicktime - 13 years agoTrevora, QTchange inserts a QT text track. (That's why it is so fast, it does not do anything with the video) But of course that is not visible in FCP, but it is in QT player and a few other players. For logging, i have made a logger, see here: But from memory, it does not have a floating TC window. (Tc is relative unimportant, as the app will take over the tedious job of typing it in.by bouke - Café LA Re: Inserting time code into quicktime - 13 years agoDudes, Have i've been away so long? Here is your answer: And yes, it does both normal QT TC tracks AND BITC, and it does BITC faster on a one hour show than it took me to write just this line. And it does it in batch, and it does a lot of other things as well.by bouke - Café LA Re: Closed-Captioning - 13 years agoWell, if you use Subbits, you can make a text file with captions that VLC player will play just fine. (just open the movie, VLC will add the captions) Good enough?by bouke - Café LA Re: Inspired by the P2 media problems and Canon 5D thread ... - 13 years agoThe reason Offloader got expensive is the transcode to optical XDcam option. (per BBC request, and i would like my hours paid...) But it fails in other framerates than 25, and does not run on all machines. (more testing to do...) So if i fail to get it fixed, the price will go down again...by bouke - Café LA Re: Logging Software for Canon 5D - 13 years agoD-Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > [*] I'd be wary using the 5DtoRGB tool, not > knowing if what is done in processing is actually > correct. Did not know there was a 'hidden' UMID in the THM files. But it will be fun to reverse engeneer it... (although i have a zillion other things to do, and i'm in the camp of 'do not go back to the source, and if you must, keep your folder structure logical, where the rootfolder is a 'tapename') My approach is to convert while shooting. It is great, once you have a working system, make a backup of your startup drive. In case of trouble, just restore. Way faster than finding the actual problem. Or, in case of high stress, just boot from the backup to get your project out of the door...by bouke - Café LA Re: Logging Software for Canon 5D - 13 years agoAndreas, You forgot the frames. They are written in SubSecTimeDigitized, in 1/250 of a second... (makes it compatible with QTchange...)by bouke - Café LA Re: Reading Zoom H2 date-Time stamp in FCP - 13 years agoFCP does not need anything to read BWF timestamps. If you don't see a start TC, it's not there. AFAIK, the BWF part of the Zoom is one big marketing hoax, as it has no external reference. However, i'm able to convert the file creation date to a proper BWF stamp. (I could alter QTchange to add the functionality). But, you will still be off by a few seconds. (Although it is of course betteby bouke - Café LA Re: Closed Captioning with FCP - 13 years agoYou can also try this: And no, you don't need a Matrox card. (Got the T-shirt years and years ago, that's why made Subbits..)by bouke - DVD Studio Pro Re: DVDstudio Pro Subtitle font size - 14 years agoNot sure, as i hate the text based STL quality and the internal DVD SP subs. (i always render bitmaps and use graphic based STL) In an STL file, you can set the fontsize. I believe that in Subbits (download from my site, the free demo will do just fine) you can set the fontsize, otherwise use it to create an example STL and set the fontsize manually. DVD SP probably will obey that. See theby bouke - DVD Studio Pro Re: Organizing dalies audio - 14 years agoBe afraid. On CC i've seen a couple of posts now from people who have edited with just a few tracks and suddenly want more. I always work with all tracks that could possibly be needed. If i don't want to listen to it for whatever reason, i set volume to 0. If i'm the one that does the final mix, it's easy. But if it goes to audio post, i just hand them all the tracks, so no-one can complain abby bouke - Café LA Re: outputting FCP timecode to Betacam SP - 14 years agoThe only way you can get a proper TC with a BVW 35 is to have it slave to LTC (audio TC). Output LTC to a channel (download some from my site, it's on the Clapperboard page) connect that channel to the TC in (bnc) and have the recorder set on external TC. But that means for a stereo show you need at least 3 outputs, not sure if your setup can do so. Otherwise, go to a shop with an editing reby bouke - Café LA Re: Need a DVD replication recommendation - 14 years agoI do, but i'm at the other side of the world... Czech republic allright for you? Altering the reel name in the bin gives a nice WARNING that the original clip WILL be altered. Do you see that message also? If so, check the clip, is the Modified date indeed altered? If so, can it happen that that clip does not have the altered reelname in a new project? What files are you working on then? (I definitly want to see one..by bouke - Café LA |
