Re: FCP: more than an editing app - 17 years agoYou're comparing the keying stuff COSA did for After Effects 2.0 in 1993 with Keylight? Anyway, let's not hijack the amazing feature request thread with OT AE stuff. Let's continue this through our personal e-mails, though. You know where the address is....by Adolfo Rozenfeld - FCP Feature Requests Rulers, Guides and Spatial Snapping in the Canvas - 17 years agoHere am I again: I forgot one small thing, which I think I have requested every time since FCP 1: rulers, guides and spatial snapping in the canvas. I think it would be terrific if FCP just could borrow those from Motion/DVD SP/Livetype... or Keynote (mindblowing, isn't it?)by Adolfo Rozenfeld - FCP Feature Requests Re: FCP: more than an editing app - 17 years ago"What I need a lot of this for are projects like one I just completed: greenscreen interviews in front of a composited background of animated stills and animation, all of which needed to be timed to correspond with the dialog". Of course! What this compartimented view (this is editing, this is motion graphics, this is compositing) doesn't take into account is TV production... Putting in all this compositing and audio mixing abilities will sidetrack them from doing so, IMHO. There are other applications that do that well and integrate with Fby Adolfo Rozenfeld - FCP Feature Requests FCP6 Requests from Adolfo - 17 years agoNot many (if any) of my top feature requests since 1999 made it into the program, but the last thing one looses is hope, right? Some of these are so obvious that it hurts to write them: * A complete redesign of the keyframing model. Did anyone see Premiere lately? Yes, you read correctly. However, this requires pre-encoded MPEG-2 assets. If you bring a 23.976 fps Quicktime file, DVD SP will then encode it as 29.97.by Adolfo Rozenfeld - DVD Studio Pro Re: Unrecognized Frame Rate (23.98) - 16 years agoDon't worry. DVD SP reports it as 29.97 fps, but it will add the proper pull-down flags so progressive-scan players remove the extra frames during playback.by Adolfo Rozenfeld - DVD Studio Pro Re: Layered Menus and Music - 16 years agoActually, anything you do in DVD Studio Pro in a DVD-video project is part of the DVD spec, or rather, it's translated into it. If it's out of spec, then it's a bug in the way DVD SP builds it. It just happens that it brings a complexity to the way things that are stored, that it may cause significant navigation delays or worse. The workaround is designing a series of twin menus with all buttoby Adolfo Rozenfeld - DVD Studio Pro Re: New Rumor? Set your first encoding job as normal (pick source file, assign preset, customize it, etc.) Then right click the resulting setting in the main window and choose "new job with target output". You will get a new job, with a large chain icon which indicates.... job chaining Could be easier to discover, that's true. But it more than justifies the UI changes IMO.by Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Compressor fun... - 16 years agoThe new UI is functional to things like job chaining. Are you aware of this feature? IMHO, it justifies any Ui change in the world Essentially, it lets you define the yet inexistent output of a job as a source for another, subsequent job. So, for example, in Compressor 2 if you want to encode to MPEG-2 and do a motion compensated standards conversion in a single job, it incredibly takes as longby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Full 1920x1080 with FCP 6.02 and AVCHD footage (from Canon HG10) - 16 years agoCommon wisdom says this, Tom. But this particular model does record a nominal 1920x1080 grid. Of course, go tell people that there's no way this 1920x1080 grid is fed with 1920x1080 actual, unique bits of information (you'd be lucky with half that much!)by Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: POLL v2: Does HDV actually suck or not? - 16 years agoIn my opinion, it's not easy to vote globally for or against. It depends on the circumstances and what you need it for. For interviews, narrative, etc under controlled environments HDV can look stunning. We all know that. XDCAM EX should be even better. Supposedly, underexposure noise and shaky camera motion can break the long GOP approach, but it has to be rather extreme. A couple of years ago I would have been delighted with the news. But I have a dual port eSATA expresscard in my MBP right now, that I got for $60. And it flies. And essentially anything you could use FW3200 for would surely use an eSATA to FW3200 bridge, right? Create a script (Add script button on the button bar). Make sure the disc's first play is set to this script. Replace the default first command of the script ("nop" with "Set system stream". When you add that command, it will let you pick "subtitle" as an option. For Windows machines, you can place an autorun.inf command in the disc (google for it to see how you do it). But again, users can disable autorun and there's nothing you can do about it.by Adolfo Rozenfeld - DVD Studio Pro Re: Anyone using LaCie Blue-Ray burner to make Blu-Ray DVD from FinalCut studio? - 17 years agoThe new Adobe Encore DVD CS3 supports Blu-Ray and is now available for the first time on the Mac. It lacks some professional features found in DVD SP (like scripting and VTS editing), but again, it supports Blu-Ray today. One such difference is that there's *always* a selected button. Remember it was designed to use a remote control, not a mouse. It worked perfectly with Shane's clip. I don't need to achieve super VFX level keying, with light wrapping and such things. As I said to Shane, I just want to show to my students the advantages of (affordable!) 4:2:2 color sampling for these things. Thanks again! This forum is greatby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA |
