Re: What's up with DVD Studio pro and Blu Ray - 15 years agoNope, it only works on an Intel Macs. never the less, Encore DVD has not gotten it right, yet. It can burn a BluRay DVD but forget proper menus as in Red laser DVD,by John Foley - DVD Studio Pro Re: 24 or 30 Advice - 15 years agoTV spots implies 29.97, right? Converting things around is a lot of trouble instead of shooting in good ole' NTSC.by John Foley - Café LA Re: OT: FX for Newbs - 15 years agoHow's about doing a thing on ADD graphics (I call them). You know, a montage of images and text that fly around the screen so fast that you can't tell what the message is. Each image moves in less than 1/2 second and makes lots of "whirring" sounds but really gives no real message?by John Foley - Café LA Re: Editing Consumer HD vs ProSD - 15 years agoI think the question here should ask "What are you shooting for"? The latest of the smallish HDV-AVCHD-print to disc or memory card cameras are pretty amazing. Editning that stuff is more problematic than standard DV-HDV-DVCPRO codecs, but for some needs, can be very helpful. But as everyone says, If you want a really usefully good picture, then that's what 3 chip cameras are for.by John Foley - Café LA Re: most stable version of OS 10.4 & quicktime with FCS2?? - 15 years agoYes, there is a Combo 10.4.11 updater on the Apple web site. Concerning Leopard. It's the latest toy and has some user improvements such as icons that actually show what the content of the file is like in a thumbnail and many more goodies to discover. The more I use Leopard, the more I like it.by John Foley - Café LA Re: What's up with DVD Studio pro and Blu Ray - 15 years agoNuttin' Honey. Who knows what Apple is up to? Some claim the final blow to HD DVD was not too long ago, but no one even knows if Apple will do something about BluRay authoring. Some like to ponder that maybe Apple is turning into an entertainment company and will loose interest in Pro Apps but not Apple TV? I went the way of getting Encore DVD from Adobe but that is not the answer either.by John Foley - DVD Studio Pro Re: most stable version of OS 10.4 & quicktime with FCS2?? - 15 years ago10.4.11 is supposed to the the best version of MacOs X. It evidentally inherits a few of the qualities of Leopard, so I am lead to believe. Then again, can 10.4.11 (even) use Quicktime 7.5.x?by John Foley - Café LA Re: Need to Pause During Movie Presentation... - 15 years agoI don't know how you could "jump" to a slide in the slide show presentation. You might consider using a script that would jump to a different menu after the end jump from a Chapter mark. Each menu could be a background picture and a Next Play Button. Never having done this, i can't tell you that it would really work, but it's a thought. Also don't know how to script this navigation.by John Foley - DVD Studio Pro Re: Upgrading to FCP 6 - 15 years agoYour best bet my be to clone the current boot disk to a Firewire drive and totally erase the boot disk and start over. Moving applications from one drive to another never works well unless they are totally self contained. Nothing in Final Cut Studio is self contained.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Exporting an MPEG file from Compressor and/or FCP? - 15 years agoSince there is no such thing as just an MPEG video format, then it must be either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. I would check but most likely they are using MPEG-2 which is the same display format used on a DVD. True, MPEG-2 does not contain audio, so you'd better be sure what they really want before going forward.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Your Dream Server/RAID?!? - 15 years agoYou would need some sort of shared storage for Final Cut Server. This could be an Apple XServe (but it's not really Apple anymore) or any Network Attached storage. With the newer G5's and MacPro, you have two 1000Mb ethernet ports that you can dedicate on to a NAS (Network Attached Storage). The other more expensive solution is Fiberchannel 4 Gbps and that is really expensive. My suggestioby John Foley - Café LA Re: Picture break-up when editing Mpeg files - 15 years agoAgain, every 15th frame is a full frame. all the rest of the 14 are not a full frame rather differences between first full frame..1 and next-next-next......13.14.15. You can't just arbitratorally remove and shorten a GOP structure. Stock Answer - Can Not do this in the current DVD Specification. Even if there was a way to script the remote action to use a buton to stop the playback, there is no way to know the timeout wait for resume playing. These are just not doable in Red laser DVD's. You can, however author the DVD with input from the presenter to play up to a Chapter marker andby John Foley - DVD Studio Pro Re: Picture break-up when editing Mpeg files - 15 years ago""and I am trying to do a few internal edits on a single clip"" How? What applications are you using to EDIT MPEG-2? To my knowledge, MPEG-2 is NOT EDITABLE? MPEG-2 is Long GOP (groups of pictures) and can not be cut apart willy nilly. Only the first frame is a full frame. Each frame after the full frame only has the changed pixels from th last frame, etc.by John Foley - DVD Studio Pro Re: CDFS file - 15 years agoApparently, CDFS is a CD File system on Windows? From just looking around the internet, I don't think it's anything that can be imported natively? Since I have never encounter this before - i can only guess it's not a mainstream thing? But then again, I could be wrong.by John Foley - Café LA Re: ELVIS IN EAST PEORIA - 15 years agoFor YouTube output 640x480 Quicktime and if uploading on a MAC, it has to be under 100MB. To make a video file really small (but 250K is out of sight) use Flash Video -- FLV. That's what YouTube does to video files - FLV So, is Elvis really alive and living in East Peoria????by John Foley - Café LA Re: HD footage down converted to SD - 15 years agoIs there some reason that you can't color correct it as HD (1080i) in the FCP timeline before converting to SD in Compressor?by John Foley - Café LA Re: Running FCP externally - 15 years agoNick Baer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can I take the SATA drives out, but them in a > drive enclosure, and plug into my MacBook or iMac > (SATA to Frewire), and run FCP just like I do > anyway on my G5?? From the Disk Utilities readout it appears that the drive on Bay 2 is missing totally. Even so, a RAID 5 should kick in the extra data to make up for the missng drive until it is replaced. However the drive in Bay 3 mentions 698.6 GB ST3_INVALID_PFM Media, what ever that means. If you do decide to initailize the drive and stat over, don't forget to zero out the data on the drive. Best of Luckby John Foley - Café LA Re: FCP2 and Motion -UGH - Neither will Open - 15 years agoOne last option that is often not understood is trying to log into a new user. If the User setting is complicating software opening, try creating a new user and login into that one. see if things are different there. Ultimately, if it's a user problem it is best to start over with an archive and install of 10.4. and update to 10.4. 11. I have not done any specific testing on my MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz vs my Quad G5, but when using them I feel the MBP is at least equivalent to my G5 and in some cases faster. (My idea of correct). I would first back up your current boot drive onto a Firewire drive (to make it bootable), so that no matter what happens you can go back more easily. That is why more of these less than 4:2:2 color space formats are quaranteed to produce color issues as there are not enough pixels per frame to make an outstanding picture. Much like there are web safe colors, so are there video broadcast safe colors. You really need to use video color monitors or at least the scopes in FCP to view the saturation and chrominance levels to see if they are within broadcast standards.
