Re: Cannot edit first few frames and move marker 3-4 frames - 18 years agoI'm afraid i'll have to dissapoint you. It's not a setting, but has to do with the mpeg stream (gop structure) You can only make a marker every 12 frames. Have you already got an MPEG file? Otherwise you could cut of the 3-4 frames in FCP/i-movie or even Quicktime pro.by chris.proesmans - DVD Studio Pro Re: How much free space on a hard drive? - 17 years ago10 % is the amount of free space you should have so for you 60 GB free space. Leaves you space for more than 100 hours of DV video. G'luckby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Image sequence - 17 years agoI use After Effects for recreating a mov file from image sequences. - Import Image Sequence - New Composition - Export in the codec you want to use in FCP Works the best form me. P.S. If you got a large pict sequence, FCP wil do the import but will take some time.by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Clip Duration - 17 years agoIf you need a "bizar" clip lenght, create a timeline with one clip with the duration you want, or a graphic clip as dicribed above and copy paste that x-number of times in your sequence. As step two you load your diffrent clips in the viewer, give an inpoint and use replace edit.by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: "General Error" on rendering - 17 years agoYou can try creating a new project and copy your sequence to that project, see how that works. I would make a back-up copy of the project anyway, if your project turns out to be corrupt you still have this one to go back to. G'luckby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Workflow question for PAL original to NTSC Master - 17 years agoIf you will only have DV Pal material, I think the most efficient way to proceed is to do all your editing in DV Pal. Once the editing is finished, you can create a QT selcontained DV Pal and use compressor to transcode to NTSC. (after this render, you'll have both a Pal and a NTSC version)by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: After Effects degrading DVCPRO HD material - 17 years agoUsing the Blackmagic 8 bit Pal codec we've got color and luma differences as well. Also if we export that file as QT Uncompressed from FCP. Then do the AE compositing, painting etc on it, export from there to QT Uncompressed and using that file in FCP gives level different from original. What's the right way to do this?by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Extra Frame during edit to Tape - 17 years agoWhat I would do is give my timeline the same timecode you want it to edit to tape. If everything is ok on your timeline and you are not using extra devices between your capturecard and your deck, you might have to "tweak" your deck-controler. How to do this depends on what tape controller (usually integrated in capturecard) you are using.by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Using media manager to go from low res, to high res. - 17 years agoLet me be clear, I didn't want to start a discussion just for the sake of arguiment. I'm an editor for quite some time now and earn my living with it. I know about ideal workflows and perfect time schedules. (Deadlines & Budgets) But over here I'm forced to certain workflows. fe Monday morning I get 7 à 8 Betacam tapes and next day at seven pm the director has to leave my edit suit withby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Using media manager to go from low res, to high res. - 17 years agoThis doesn't solve Robertos problem but I do have some remarks about derek's reply. Derek, what you say about mediamanager may be true but nevertheless in my humble opinion it is a problem that should be solved in a next version or preferably in an update. There is no rule against capturing long clips, and if FCP or mediamanager loses timecode relationships that is an error of the software not oby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Back Up (What's your Work Flow) - 17 years agoI back up my project files to a harddisc. The source media comes from tape and those are put in our archive. My edited programs are mastered on digital betacam. Besides this I record an international version of the same film, or sometimes only from the relevant part(s) on a second Betacam. Chrisby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Decklink card - 17 years agoI got an Decklink Extreme over here. Generally I use SDI in from the DigiBeta, that works fine. To digitize audio only, I send the source through the Beta and that gives no problems. ( My mic is connected to a mixer and that goes into the deck wich on its turn goes to the Declink card.) If I'm not mistaken, you can capture audio only using the analogue decklink input, but you have to change theby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: won't get rid of anamorphic ! - 17 years agoSelect all you clips in the timeline, Right-click select "remove attributes" A window pops up, select distort and ok. This should do the trick.by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Widescreen Problems - 17 years agoA quick practical guideline how I do 4/3 integration in 16/9 projects. I Digitize my footage in 4/3 (= non anamorphic) I Create my sequence 16/9 (= anamorphic) When you edit your sourcematerial to your timeline you'll see it doesn't fill the screen. To fill the screen youl have to size up to +/- 133% but now you'll lose a part of the image on top and at the bottom. If you feel it necessary yoby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Lots of uncompressed video - 17 years agoG4 will handle uncompressed SD with no problem. if you've got enough RAM for the video in the timeline and more important the right discs FW 800 at least but SATA is betterby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Compressing Video for FTP - 17 years agoA thought about this: I generally work on shorter projects, my recent uploads for ftp film a 640 x 480 resolution 3 min 21 sec gave a 25 Meg file film b 320 x 180 resolution 3 min resulted in a 10 Meg file Both were encoded in the wmv format (using flip for mac) the first at 1200 kbps the second at 500 kbps Flip for mac lets you tweak a lot of parameters but the file size you aim for will beby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: USB external drives - 17 years agoTheoreticly USB 2 is faster than firewire. USB has problems with sustained datastreams, and those are important working with video. USB might work, but sooner or later you'll bump into dropped frames. If you want to transfer the files from USB to Firewire you can drag and drop. The powerbook has firewire and USB connections why daisychain?by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: jittery interlaced frames - 17 years agoIn my opinion you should keep the two fields, this results in smoother pictures and more fluent motions on your screen. If you are working for video, tv or DvD purposes keep two fields. If you need a file only for computer playback you use a export format that uses progressive scan. If you want to use stills from video for DvD-menus export as a still. In Photoshop you can also use the "videoby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Saving Multiple Frames as stills - 18 years agoI'm not behind my FCP now but: There is an export option called save as " Image, Pict or Tiff sequence" I think you can find it under export-using quicktime conversion. If you use this option you will get a still of every frame used in your sequence. Grtzby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Urgent-can't save in FCP 5 - 18 years agoHave a look in the Auto Save Vault. Check if you can work with the project files there. Try opening them from there and not restoring the project. G'luckby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Best capture settings to use with Blackmagic multibridge extreme - 18 years agoCodec's for gfx department... Your can import photoshopfiles straight into FCP; they will show up as sequences; if the images arez flattened Tiff/Targa/pict files all will do. After fx guys can render in the Blackmagic Codec; but those files can't contain alpha channels; so you could go to non-compressed Quicktime. Illustrator is not my thing, so can't help you there; combustion should be ableby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Best capture settings to use with Blackmagic multibridge extreme - 18 years agoHi, you've got a power-system overthere. If you got enough storage space I would avoid off-line editing. Mediamanager is NOT very reliable for off to online. I'm in Belgium (PAL) and we use the SD Black Magic 8 bit. (I'm told this is the same codec as the apple 4-2-2 codec) SD Black Magic 10 bit when a lot of colorcorrecting and keying is needed.by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: 4.5G RAM & still getting DropFrame Error - 18 years agoI doubt dropped frames are due to memory isues. What kind of Hard discs are you using? Which codec is your source footage and your timeline in?by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Anamorphic Mixup - 18 years agoWhat you can try in your timeline: select all right click and select "remove atributes" a window pops up put a mark next to "distort" and press "ok" Grtz, Chrisby chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: Gradient Wipe thinks one of the clips is a slug - 18 years agoBy incident no black frame between two clips? You can go to letterbox after your edit in finalized. The other way round would inevitably give quality loss. Using them on a daily basis for more then 2 years. So far encountered only 1 problem wich could be solved by Disk Warior. Just to say not all Lacie stuff has to be bad.by chris.proesmans - Café LA Re: END OF TAPE REACHED - 18 years agoDon't know with DV tapes, with Betacam tapes it sometimes helps to ffwd and then rw them completly and start capturing. Only helps if the problem has to do with tape-tension.
