Re: Premier Cs5 vs Final Cut - 13 years agoHow about this for a scare? Microsoft has designs to swallow Adobe....by DM - Café LA Re: Progressive or Interlaced? - 13 years agoEr.....if your shooting fast action, better look at 1080i. Editors don't like some of the artifacts of interlace but... If the web is your delivery, then it may make sense to shoot 720. However, in my experience, shooting progressive will blur to the point of distraction, more than you want on motion pans. 720 is the upper limit for web delivery so the point is why not keep the same standards thby DM - Café LA Re: New camera - 13 years agodon't loose sight of the cost of the P2 cards. If your doing long shoots, it's going to cost you a couple of thousand dollars more on top of the purchase price. This is one of the factors that swayed me toward XDCAM. The EX1r is quite a camera, I'd say way "more" camera than the Panasonic 170, and uses Express 34 cards. Used compressor as suggested. Clips import into project OK. Oh well, there's only 7 DVD's at full capacity (4.7 gigs) with 9, 20, 40 sec video clips on them. Over 30 gigs of this!! I just received (dumped) a stack of DVD's with a ton of short clips on each disk. At this time, I'm still trying to find out what the still photographer used to shoot these clips. The files are typically listed like this: MVI_7473.MOV Yet another format? I read that MVI stands for something like musical/video blah blah. Do I care? Is the .mov (Quicktime) extension all I need toby DM - Café LA Re: Workflow advice for Panasonic-HMC150P - 13 years agoYou might be overlooking the fact that most cameras that advertise 1080 are not 1080P @ 60 frames progressive. They shoot 1080 interlaced at 60 frames per second. It's usually 1080p @ 30 progressive at best. Not the case with 720p. U can usually shoot 720p @ 6o frames, none interlaced.by DM - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX Workflow Part 2 - 13 years agoHas anyone used XDCAM Transfer in place of Final Cut L & T? Seems like they do the same thing. XDCAM transfter opens when you File/import/XDCAM. After much a-do, I've finally got L&T working via FCut. If you read down to the bottom of the first post, you'll see that there is a confusing amount of software with similar functions to sort through. Seems like it's some kind of sick initiation into the tapeless arena. . nowby DM - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX Workflow? - 13 years agoOK.....went to sony canada, found the L & T. It works. I think I'm in shock over just how convoluted this process is... Even Sony's support site here doesn't list this plug-in. Craig, thx for your help. I hope the rest of this process goes better. This was a rough and in my opinion, unnecessarily difficult initiation.by DM - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX Workflow? - 13 years agono.... the sony website offers XDCAM Transfer. Not the same thing? or where would I find L & T 1.2?by DM - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX Workflow? - 13 years agojust tried XDCAM Transfer ver 2.12. Open final cut project and set up project for XDCAM 1080i at 60. Then, file/import/xdcam and it launches the transfer program.. This works. So this is not final Cut L & T application, which is what I've been trying to use so far. Seems something about final cut L & T is not working? I just spent 7500 bucks on a $%$%# camera and can't get the footage in. I am really disappointed with this crap. It's becoming clear to me that tapeless workflow is a big hassle. Way too complicated. What is it with Sony and Apple? to quote Rodney King, "can't we all just get along?". I guess I'll try clip browser.by DM - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX Workflow? - 13 years agoWell, I re-formatted the card and shot just XDCAM 1920 x 1080 HQ. I'm getting the same error message. I also notice that the Sony transfer plugin doesn't show up in the preference drop down window. Not the same as this one but maybe will lead to a fix. Won't be able to post it until tonight. Want to re-mention that I only selected the top level BPAV folder to open in L & T. Just a clarifier, I purposely navigated to the BPAV folder, copied from the S X S 16 gig card when I attempted to create the L & T session. Within this folder are several others but I did not touch them. I selected the "top" folder BPAV, which contains the others, within L & T search and the error message comes up. I transferred the clips via USB from the camera. The clips all view fine in the cameras viewfinder. There are 2 mixed codecs on the card. Test footage in DVCAM and a 1920 x 1080 HQ clip.
