No, it's about even. It's a compilation series based on 35 webisodes which are actually at three different resolutions. We need everything the same so when we make editorial changes as we build episodes, we don't have to do so much rendering.by JoeE - Café LA

I'm trying to down res half of the media on a series to match the previous season so we can do a compilation series. When I do a media manage, some of the files from each sequence that I media manage have a "-v" appended onto the name, so it won't reconnect. Does anyone know why this is happening? Problem Solved! Needed to update my eSata card drivers. Tough to remember to update those since, at least with Sonnet, there is no way to tell when the drivers are updated. I was way behind.by JoeE - Café LA

What drive interface do I need to work at this resolution? I'm getting some glitches with FW800 and even eSata will hiccup on a long sequence. I'm using an OWC RAID 0 tower.by JoeE - Café LA

I really thought this technology was available. For instance, according to Data Robotics, I can buy two Drobos and put one at work and one at home and have them sync automatically for offsite backup. I was just thinking that this is something that was common and could be used with media drives. It's not the carrying of the portable drive that is the problem, it's when I or my assistant forget thaby JoeE - Café LA

I'm working on a project and want to cut at the editing room and on location. I can't really carry drives, so I wondering how I might remotely sync two hard drives. They would be initially setup and cloned with Carbon Copy Cloner and then the remote drive would be taken to location. I need to be able to have the location drive update automatically when I add sound effects and other things so I caby JoeE - Café LA

I have a dual quad 2.66 from 2009 and I'm about to start a new project that's going to be heavy on the rendering. Anyone have any idea what sort of increase in speed I'll get if I invest in a new 12-core 2.96 Westmere? Anyone done this upgrade?by JoeE - Café LA
QMaster for speeding rendering with Final Cut Pro - 13 years ago
Cutting a series by myself and the only glitch is that rendering time for Final Cut Pro really cuts into my day. The show is graphics heavy so most clips have some compositing necessary. If I buy another CPU and set up QMaster would it speed the rendering on the timeline? Would a new 12-core 2.66 ghz "Westmere" render a lot faster than my existing 8-core 2.8 ghz "Harpertown." Anyone had any experience with this upgrade? It's a lot of money but it could be worth it for significant time savings.by JoeE - Café LA

Thanks, Ben. I did you first two suggestions and there was no effect as you expected. We shot Alexa 422 and I use the ProRes 422 (HQ) preset. Our layering is varied. The problem happens with simple picture overlapping picture with both being Alexa sources. Each subsequent layer make the shift even larger. Those elements can be .tif, .psd, .pict., .tga. We switched out show to Alexa this season and now, every time I overlay picture or a graphic or both, the density shifts on the clips that are multi layer. For example, we start out with a character in a graphic frame on the left side (reduced from full frame using the motion tool) and another character pops on also in a graphic frame on the right (partially overlapped and reduced from full frameby JoeE - Café LA

Thanks for the confirmation. We just took a look at some stuff that was shot at the end of the shoot at a different setting. Because it was an element for main titles cg, we shot it at the highest res you can put on an Alexa SxS card which is ProRes 4444 instead of 422 HQ which we used for the standard scenes. On that the takes are dead sync. Should of had them shoot that the whole way. I haby JoeE - Café LA

Has anyone noticed that the sync on the Alexa ProRes dailies files are out by one frame? I've done two consecutive projects using that camera and on both the audio was ahead of the picture by one frame. Next one I'll talk to the sound man ahead of time and maybe he can solve this somehow....by JoeE - Café LA

I'm starting a Pro Res PAL project using proxy files. The original proxy quicktimes on the desktop level are dead sync but the imported files have audio that's 1 frame early. Is there a setting I'm missing? I'm only playing using a single monitor, not client monitor-- an Apple 30" Cinema Display and it happens both in the viewer window and when I play back using digital desktop preview.by JoeE - Café LA

Even some of the smallest web based shows will shoot multicam because camera costs are down. My show shoots two, even three cameras all the time so no way I can try X.... although Larry is right is his blog: we all know we are going to buy it eventually. Making a DVD that will play both 16x9 and 4x3 - 13 years ago
I have an HD 30 minute piece (ProRes 1280 x 720, 23.98) that needs to be exported so I can create a DVD that will play both 16x9 and 4x3 Letterboxed depending on the viewers setup... it's going to multiple viewers. I have DVD Studio Pro set up for that but I'm guessing the export needs to be anamorphic for it to work correctly. How do I do that?by JoeE - DVD Studio Pro

No, they are just gone. Unfortunately I rely too much on autosave and don't manual save enough. I haven't figured out a way to remind myself to do it even after all these years. What's weird is these are effects that have been there for 6 months, not just stuff I've done today.by JoeE - Café LA

I'm compiling two seasons of shorter bits into a longer series for cable. Season one was shot and captured at DVCPRO 720 and 2 was captured at 1080 ProRes 422. They are multi-video layer timelines and I'm needing to mix and match bit of different format onto the same timeline. When I do so, some of the material is off sized and some is ok... it's sort of a mixed barrel, even after rendering.by JoeE - Café LA
