Blu Ray as an output option... - 16 years agoAnyone know how long of a movie you can squeeze onto a Blu Ray disc? We are planning a screening and buying a burner is a much cheaper option than renting an HDCAM deck (the project is DVCPROHD 1080) since the theater has Blu Ray also. Thanks.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Border on JPG disappears when I render! - 16 years agoOooh, that'll work. Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Re: Border on JPG disappears when I render! - 16 years agoHi, thanks for the answer. I am using the basic border tool and yes I've tried adjusting the size and also switching the image to tiff but it's still disappearing. Unfortunately Photoshop is not an option right now, although I may have to go that route later in the process if I can't find a solution.by JoeE - Café LA Border on JPG disappears when I render! - 16 years agoI'm using current versions of everything. I've imported jpgs for a credit sequence and put a white border on the jpgs for a photo snapshot look. Everything looks great until I render and then part of the border, the top edge and a bit of the sides, just disappears. The rest of the border looks fine. Anyone ever have this problem?by JoeE - Café LA Re: Problem since upgrade to 10.5.6 - 16 years agoOk. I'll give it a try. I think it's related to leaving the application to check email and then coming back, by the way.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Problem since upgrade to 10.5.6 - 16 years agoWell I'm certainly glad for that. A occasional restart is not the worst thing, though. Probably good in the long run.by JoeE - Café LA Problem since upgrade to 10.5.6 - 16 years agoAnyone else having a problem with their timeline not scrolling as you play? The cursur is sometimes not moving in either the timeline or the canvas window when I hit play. Restart cures it but this only started with the update.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Capture discrepancy with 720p ProRes and Cinema Tools - 16 years agoWhat's "TK." Sorry for being dumb. With going back and cutting negative, we have always been dead on frame with telecine databases. It's broken somewhere between Cinema Tools importing the ALE and capturing. Can't figure it out. We are going to have to go to 1080, which is going to cost us more money than we were supposed to spend on drives and some other problems...by JoeE - Café LA Capture discrepancy with 720p ProRes and Cinema Tools - 16 years agoWe're three days into dailies and we noticed that our capture is 1 frame off from the cinema tools database and the ale file. The lab is capturing (using a Kona 3) in NYC and has tried everything they can to make any 720p codec (sq hq, dvcprohd) work and they are all 1 frame off. All the 1080 codecs work fine. Is this a known Final Cut Pro software problem? Thanks in advance for your help.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Final Questions before starting film project - 16 years agoThanks everyone. We are ultimately cutting negative so it's only a reference for fixes, visual effects will just be temporary. I'll have the lab do a test of SQ 1080 and SQ 720 and see if the difference is noticeable on our displays.by JoeE - Café LA Final Questions before starting film project - 16 years agoI was hoping someone could clarify for me which codec we should use for a feature film (60 hours of dailies) that we are shooting 35mm and transfering to HDCAM (not sure if it's sr or not) then having Technicolor capture ProRes for us. We are thinking of staying at 720p23.98 but I'm not sure of the difference between ProRes and ProRes HQ and whether it's worth the extra 30-40% of storage space.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Mac set up - 16 years agoDoes this work while editing in FCP? Are you able to run the HDMI monitor in sync with the desktop canvas, both playing at the same time? If so, I may be able to do without the Aja board on my system because we are now going to digitize at the lab and we are not making tapes in the editing room, just exporting QuickTimes.by JoeE - Café LA Re: G-Raid G-SpeedES noise level? - 16 years agoYeah, I talked to John. They may not be available before our project starts so I'm researching options. But the VR would probably be my first choice if I can find the money. Have the released a price yet?by JoeE - Café LA Re: G-Raid G-SpeedES noise level? - 16 years agoYes, I know about the G-raids and the broken fans, but I heard they had fixed that problem and that the fans are easily replaceable if they get noisy. The CalDigits are the way to go, but I was hoping for a little budget relief.by JoeE - Café LA G-Raid G-SpeedES noise level? - 16 years agoAre these raids as quiet as the plain g-raid? I'm in a situation where I need quiet drives.by JoeE - Café LA Everything Changes.... ProRes question - 16 years agoSo the DP has weighed in on this project that I'm about to start that we are shoot 35mm and planning to capturing DVCPROHD 720p24. He feels that for later screening purposes, we should capture at ProRes 422 (not hq.) I was all set up for CalDigit FW800 drives, but now I'm concerned that I need eSata for ProRes. Or will FW800 drives be sufficient? Plus can someone tell me how much more space Prby JoeE - Café LA Re: Sort of OT. I need a 4x2 video switcher... - 16 years agoRight, exactly! Thanks for the clarification. Anyone suggest a brand I should try?by JoeE - Café LA Sort of OT. I need a 4x2 video switcher... - 16 years agoI need to set up two screening monitors off of a Aja Kono LH card but it only has one component output. Can someone suggest a 4x2 component video switcher? Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Re: OT: 120hz HDTVs. OY VAY!! - 16 years agoPlasma is really the answer. I have a 720p Panasonic that gets the 1080p LCD guys in the neighborhood questioning their purchases...by JoeE - Café LA 3 monitor setup? - 16 years agoHas anyone every used a three monitor setup? How do you do it? I was hoping to use monitor for bins and other stuff another for the timeline and a third for desktop preview playback. Thanks.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Compressing to Flash? - 16 years agoActually you can if you download the trial version of Adobe Creative Suite. It installs the pieces you need. Then just go to export=>Using QuickTime Conversion and the FLV option is there.by JoeE - Café LA Re: FCP 720 vs 1080 projection - 16 years agoThat's about how we'd do it. Thanks for the info. Yes, 20' is smaller but I think the 720 will be fine for us. Hell, we used to screen DV so it's only up from there!by JoeE - Café LA Re: audio weirdness - 16 years agoYeah, it's hardly practical if you have a ton of music. I was dealing with aifs and only had about 50, so it worked fine. It was a FW800 setup, no RAID. I finally got put on the phone with one of Apple high level FCP engineers and that's what we came up with to solve the problem. Maybe there were other forces at work, other corruptions, but it did go away when I moved everything out of iTuneby JoeE - Café LA Re: audio weirdness - 16 years agoI've also found that if your audio is on the root of your media drive, weirdness goes away. When I used to keep my music in my iTunes, I'd have problems like this all the time. There's something about folders within folders..... Now I choose the music in iTunes and copy it out before I import into FCP.by JoeE - Café LA FCP 720 vs 1080 projection - 16 years agoIf I'm eventually going to be screening FCP output in a theater (250 seats) will I be ok capturing at 720p DVCProHD or will I need better resolution for projection? Obviously my concern is how much storage I'll need for 1080 on a feature.by JoeE - Café LA Re: RAID 0 Internal Drives a good idea? - 16 years agoAnd how about the difference between the internal drive and FW800? Is the internal drive setup less likely to drop a frame? Is it faster?by JoeE - Café LA Re: RAID 0 Internal Drives a good idea? - 16 years agoBut won't I be spending a bunch more money for 3TB raid 5? I'm buying the system myself and renting it back to the production. We've used the redundant system method on a few films with great success using external drives, although never HD before.by JoeE - Café LA RAID 0 Internal Drives a good idea? - 16 years agoI'm still figuring out the setup for a feature I'm starting in October. I'm going to need 3 tb of storage, just to be safe. We are going to be capturing DVCPROHD 720p and I was thinking of just buying cpu with 3 1TB media drives from Apple (we'll have at least 15TB of dailies and I like to have extra room) rather than external esata or fw drives. We'll be working with duplicate systems (my assby JoeE - Café LA |
