Re: Starting Feature, want to cut HD - 16 years agoThanks for the suggestions. Yes, the reason for HD is for preview purposes. I think DVCPROHD is certainly sufficient for that and is easy to cut with. And I'm going to look into telecine to QT, which could save a ton of money on a deck. You guys are incredibly helpful! Thanks.by JoeE - Café LA Starting Feature, want to cut HD - 16 years agoAfter an good experience cutting HD on an HBO series, I want to cut HD on a feature I'm starting next month. Shot on 35mm, I assume dailies will be transferred to HDCam. What format should I ask for dailies on? HDV? It seems that HDCam deck would be too expensive to rent, whereas we could buy and HDV deck pretty easily at have it for the whole show. I was planning to use the CalDigit firewirby JoeE - Café LA Lesson learned - 16 years agoSo today I went back and tried again and everything worked fine. I had some weird stuff happen when I awoke from sleep and restarted. I think that my system was crashed and that's why it wasn't syncing properly. I guess that's a good lesson, when ever you have a weird problem, restart and try again!by JoeE - Café LA Re: SpyWare - 16 years agoI would probably dump all the cookies in your browser. I had that problem with a dating site that popped up out of the blue every time I went to Yahoo. You can also block pop ups in your browser.by JoeE - Café LA FCP Multi Clip Sync Issue - 16 years agoI just loaded a bunch of materials for a web series and it's 2 camera, DVCPROHD. Of course they were unable to sync the tc on the two cameras accurately, off by two frames, so when I chose to multiclip by timecode, one of the characters was two frames out of sync. So I went and sent in points for the first clip on both cameras, marking the sound of the b camera, and sure enough the clips are stby JoeE - Café LA Panasonic 1200 deck using firewire, audio capture question. - 16 years agoI'm starting a project that was shot 720p DVCPROHD on varicam and we are capturing using the Panasonic 1200 deck via firewire. Right now when we capture, we are getting 8 tracks of audio, but only channels 1 and 2 repeated into 3/4 5/6 and 7/8. Is firewire capable of transferring the audio straight across?by JoeE - Café LA Re: J-H3 capture to DVCPRO HD via Firewire? - 16 years agoThanks so much. Kona card on the way!by JoeE - Café LA J-H3 capture to DVCPRO HD via Firewire? - 16 years agoI'm about to rent a deck to pull in some materials that need to be assembled quickly for immediate playback for an audience. They are shooting using the Sony 900 and the tapes are HDCAM. Our project is DVCPRO HD because we did a ton of location shooting using that format and that's how our show will be finished. Can I use Firewire to capture the material at DVCPRO HD resolution? Or do I needby JoeE - Café LA Re: Replace Command Messed Up with synced dailies - 16 years agoBy the way, they just said that it's related to the upgrade in the multi-camera functions. They think that upgrade broke this...by JoeE - Café LA Re: Replace Command Messed Up with synced dailies - 16 years agoJust got word back from Apple. This turns out to be a known bug since 6.0.0 with any method of marrying picture with a different audio source. It seems to only affect DVCPROHD, according to them, although I'm not sure they've tested everything. They said the clips are having trouble keeping track of the sync points. The work around is after you sync a clip, you have to export the new independby JoeE - Café LA Re: CPU buzz and whine.... - 16 years agoBy the way, it's not a MacBook Pro, which I know has whine issues. It's a Mac Pro 3ghz Dual Quad Core.by JoeE - Café LA Re: CPU buzz and whine.... - 16 years agoI had it both ways. We started with a Kona card and now it's been removed. Got the noise both ways (although not when using the audio out of the Kona card.)by JoeE - Café LA CPU buzz and whine.... - 16 years agoIs there a reason why when using native audio out (headphone jack) I am hearing buzzing and whining from the cpu? It comes and goes, but is usually there and sort of loud at times. It tends to change or even go away temporarily with each click in a window or scroll of the mouse ball. Thanks.by JoeE - Café LA Re: FCP and Unity? - 16 years agoThanks. I talked to a friend this morning and they dittoed the render thing. We talked them out of the Unity. They are saying there are problems with eSATA and Leopard dropping frames on playback, even through the native video (I'm just using a 24" to cut and a 30" to view.) They are talking about downgrading to Tiger in the middle of a project so that SATA will work properly. I haby JoeE - Café LA FCP and Unity? - 16 years agoDoes this work? The facility wants to put it in (my assist and I are not sharing media) because that's what they have. I'm trying to get them to go buy eSATA (we need 8tb each) but I guess they are trying to save money because they have the Unity just lying around. We are doing 6 episodes of a series at DVCPRO HD, capturing over firewire, so it could run on firewire 800, right? Why are they bby JoeE - Café LA Re: Replace Command Messed Up with synced dailies - 16 years agoTried it both way, on a time line with making independent clip and syncing with merge and still am getting picture and track out of sync when I do a replace cut. Is this a bug?by JoeE - Café LA Re: Replace Command Messed Up with synced dailies - 16 years agoNo that's not it, but thanks. I think it has to be related to how we are syncing. We are going to do a test today of syncing with merge and see if that's the problem....by JoeE - Café LA Replace Command Messed Up with synced dailies - 16 years agoI'm using FCP 6.0.2 and we are being forced to sync dailies in the editing room on some takes because the guide track they are feeding into the camera (HD) has noise. When I use the replace command with clip that are hand synced the piece that goes in is a different piece than I have marked. We are syncing on a timeline and then making clip independent. We can't just sync by timecode because tby JoeE - Café LA .caf to .aif? - 16 years agoIs there a converter that's out there so that all the caf sfx that I'm using in FCP don't need to be rendered? Bummer that you can't load them into iTunes....by JoeE - Café LA Re: Export OMF from FCP to AVID? - 16 years agoActually, this is great. I have the same material in AVID as I do FCP so an audio omf is perfect because I'm not planning on changing picture if I can avoid it. Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Export OMF from FCP to AVID? - 16 years agoI have to cut something at home on FCP 6.0.3 and load it into an existing AVID project to show some studio-types. Is it possible to export an OMF out of FCP and import it into AVID (Adrenaline?) Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Mixing Resolutions on same timeline or capture the same - 16 years agoSorry if this is remedial, but we are using two different cameras on this show I'm working on (Varicam and Sony F900) and I'm not sure if they get captured at the same resolution and if not if we can mix resolutions on the same timeline, uprezing one of them later for broadcast? The idea is to use Apple Prores 422...by JoeE - Café LA Re: Frame Accurate Tape (DVCPRO HD) - 17 years agoWOW! Thanks. That answers all my needs! I now need to just decide about storage. If I cut HD, am I better of just raiding a bunch of internal drives or is it better to have an external sata raid? I'm cutting a cable series, so I can't have any lag....by JoeE - Café LA Frame Accurate Tape (DVCPRO HD) - 17 years agoWhat equipment would I need to create a frame accurate (like avid can do) output of a show that originates on DVCPRO HD? I want to cut the show HD, then deliver an edited master DVCPRO HD tape to the facility for vfx and color timing, saving an online. In the past (DVCAM shows,) I have never been able to get FCS to make a tape that was able to hit the 1:00:00:00 mark for the start and be accuraby JoeE - Café LA Re: New Project: Never cut HD before - 17 years agoAre raided internal drives faster than FW800 or a Sonnet Raid and therefore preferred?by JoeE - Café LA New Project: Never cut HD before - 17 years agoStarting a new project, a series for cable, and I didn't know if it was possible to edit HD (DVC PRO HD) using firewire storage or if the system won't be fast enough. Or should we just get a few internal drives or something else? I'm worried about the system being sluggish. The equipment will all be brand new, so figure the best hardware.by JoeE - Café LA How to Reinstall FCS - 17 years agoHi- I had a system crash and it broke every program in FCS in some way. Glitch city. How do I reinstall? I can't seem to find and uninstall option. Do I just reinstall over the existing programs? Or do I have to clean my hard drive, reinstall Tiger and install FCS for the best results? Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA |
