Re: Another PAL Conversion Question - Cinema Tools - 17 years agoI wish that was it! I was very specific about what each meant, not even using the Cinema Tools terminology. Still waiting for an answer from them...by JoeE - Café LA Re: Another PAL Conversion Question - Cinema Tools - 17 years agoWell I sent them an email about their methods and they are checking to see if they can do the 24@25. Sound is not the problem because we are telecining picture only and syncing in FCP. Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Re: Another PAL Conversion Question - Cinema Tools - 17 years agoGot it! Thanks for the heads up.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Another PAL Conversion Question - Cinema Tools - 17 years agoYes, I agree. Unfortunately our telecine house does not do this type but rather the 24 & 1 pulldown method. For anyone who's interested here's what I was told: There are two pulldown methods when transferring 24 fps film to 25 fps Pal A) 2:2 Pulldown - which simply speeds up the video by 4% (Apple calls this 24 @ 25) B) 2^12:3 Pulldown - which displays 11 frames wby JoeE - Café LA Another PAL Conversion Question - Cinema Tools - 17 years agoSo I've learned now that the facility in India is using the PAL Pulldown (24 & 1) method for telecine on this feature that I'm starting in a couple of weeks. We are cutting in the US and finishing with a negative cut. I am confused by the manual about how Cinema Tools handles this method as opposed to the 24 @ 25 method, which simple speeds up the film 4%. It's clear that the conform featuby JoeE - Café LA Re: Got Leopard? Post your problems/joys/thoughts here - 17 years agoI'm in between projects but still doing some finishing work on them. I've upgraded and have had absolutely no problems with two separate films, but I'm just doing simple feature editing using firewire drives. Dialogue films, no VFX of any consequence.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Still a bit confused about PAL Project - 17 years agoI'll post how things are going. Not starting for a couple of weeks...by JoeE - Café LA Re: Still a bit confused about PAL Project - 17 years agoOk Nick, that sounds great. I did a little investigating in Cinema Tools and I get what you are saying. We have to sync dailies ourselves, so it sounds like I need to have the recordist recording at 24fps instead of 25, right, since the material imported into the project will be at 24? Thanks again.by JoeE - Café LA Still a bit confused about PAL Project - 17 years agoOk, so I'm starting this PAL project (dailies are coming from India) and I will be receiving PAL DVCAMS. We are shooting super 16 and finishing with a DI. I will be providing a scan list for the telecine house back in India. Here's my question: I'm used to reverse telecine so that I can work in 24 fps. Can I do that with PAL? Or do I just stay in PAL land and give them an edl rather than a nby JoeE - Café LA Re: Pal Project....create NTSC DVD? - 17 years agoJust asking if it's possible. It sounds like it is. Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Pal Project....create NTSC DVD? - 17 years agoI'm starting a new film in a few weeks that's being shot in India and telecined to HD. We'll be posting in LA. My source will be DVCAM PAL and I was wondering if I can export out of a PAL project and convert to an NTSC DVD using compressor?by JoeE - Café LA Where is the preference file stored? - 17 years agoI'm crashing and need to delete preferences.by JoeE - Soundtrack Pro SFX on different drive? - 17 years agoIs it possible to store the STP effects library on an external firewire disk? I tried to instal it that way and didn't see and option for that. Is there another way to do it?by JoeE - Soundtrack Pro Re: BCF2000 Behringer Control Surface Hook Up Question - 17 years agoThanks! It got up and running in a snap! It is a great unit, although a bit noisy compared to the MCU which I used to have. Also, no solo buttons work, just mutes, for some reason. Still, what a great product and what a time saver....by JoeE - Café LA BCF2000 Behringer Control Surface Hook Up Question - 17 years agoAnyone that's using the Behinger, please could you tell me how to hook it up? Does it need a midi controller? Or does the built in USB work? If you use an external midi controller, you then switch the system to direct out, right? Thanks.by JoeE - Café LA Using 3rd Monitor w/FCS 1 - 17 years agoThe production I'm on has an extra 23" cinema display available (the old, picture frame kind.) Right now I'm using 2 23" aluminum cinema displays with a dual 2.0ghz G5 and I could use some more real estate. How do I hook up that other display to use as a bin monitor? I need another video card, right? Is it an easy add-on? Will it potentially mess anything else up? Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Re: What Control Surface Do You Use? - 17 years agoI wonder whether any Control Surface things are changed in FCP 6? Maybe more buttons will be enabled!by JoeE - Café LA What Control Surface Do You Use? - 17 years agoI've used the Mackie MCU but I need to purchase a system for a new job. What's good out there now? Is the Mackie still the best. I've seen that the Tascam 1082 works as an analog mixer too. Is it as fast and accurate as the Mackie? Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Re: Firewire drives with Laptop, RAID? - 17 years agoYes, that would work great, but the only drives I have are just firewire. Is there any benefit at all to RAID in my configuration?by JoeE - Café LA Firewire drives with Laptop, RAID? - 17 years agoI'm taking over a film that's already been shot and working on my laptop for a month until editing rooms can be set up. There's about 700GB of media and I have 2 OWC Mercury Elite Pro FW400/800 500Gb drives to copy the dailies on to (there will be no capturing.) I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.1GHz core duo with 2 GB Ram with only a FW400 port. What's the best way to set up the drives to insure thatby JoeE - Café LA Re: OT - the "murch-esque" stand-up desk... - 18 years agoThat funny because I do the same thing, get up, watch from the doorway, sit on the floor and watch an entire film (I do this a lot.) Anything to refresh the eye. Makes a big difference. But cutting standing up? It's interesting because I find that I do far more talking about a scene than actual cutting. Executing the concepts is always fairly easy. Generating them is a different story. Oftby JoeE - Café LA Cinema Tools Technical Support? Recommendation needed.... - 18 years agoMy assistant and I have just stepped into a feature for a departed team and their capture process was different than what we are used to and we are having trouble capturing new dailies. Can I.... - 18 years ago....ever just work with one track. I am taking over for another editor on a feature. They telecined to two mono/split tracks and the dailies were captured that way (different characters on each track.) I would rather work with just a single composite track for my dialog so I have room for mx/fx on a resonable size timeline. Maybe it has something to do with having our media on firewire drives. Maybe on a raid it's faster and more accurate.by JoeE - Café LA Re: output 23.98 to 29.97 with proper 3:2 pull-down - 18 years agoWhat I've always done in the past when delivering features (I'm currently cutting my fourth on FCP) is burn a dvd of each reel and then take it to a facility that can transfer that dvd it to tape with burnt in TC and Feet and Frames. It's always dead accurate. I've found that going to any tape format from FCP in a film finish project is always a little wonky, no matter what your input or ouputby JoeE - Café LA edl from 24 frame timeline - 18 years agoQuestion: The film was transfered to hdcam, down-res to dvcam for editing at 24frm (via reverse telecine) now I need to do a hd master in Nitros. Problems? - 18 years agoI have a feature with the music and adr in my itunes library (aiffs) on an external FW drive. Occasionally I get some weird things with these tracks once they are cut into a timeline and that timeline is rendered and mixed down. What happens is that the rendered version of a song or adr is out of sync, but if I dump the render files and re-render, the pieces return to their original sync. It'sby JoeE - Café LA |
