Re: Proc Amp Filter in effects??? - 17 years agoHello, Deb! Please note that when you load the (one way) Color Corrector in the Viewer's Filters tab, the actual property name for Hue is "Phase Shift". So, while the CC filters may not do everything a true Proc Amp does, I believe they pretty much do everything the FCP Proc Amp filter does The controls are different, but it's unlikely something you do with Proc Amp can't be replicatedby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Resetting tone to -18 db?? - 17 years agoHello, Phil. You can type -18 db where it says -12 db. You can also set the tone level in the Print to Video or Edit to Tape window, if you use that instead of the clip in the timelime (maybe a good idea, you don't need to place bar and tone on the timeline, since FCP will offer those mastering optiions when you print/edit to tape). In those windows, you also get a chance to test the tone level,by Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Proc Amp Filter in effects??? - 17 years agoThe Proc Amp filter is an ancient, legacy filter. All of its' function are more than convered by the newer Color Corrector filters. I guess it's still there so people can open projects made with early versions of FCP. Processing amplifiers are (were?) analog devices that usually provide basic video signalcorrection features, like hue, black level, etc. All the bestby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Cardbus and 15" Powerbook - 17 years agoThe cardbus Firewire option is a must when you use your Powerbook with a device like the AJA IO (which uses the Firewire port to transfer really high data rate video) and you want to use other Firewire 400 or 800 devices. The IO simply needs the whole Firewire bus for itself. For DV/DV50/DVCPRO HD/HDV video over Firewire is not necessary. Oddly, DVD SP 4 incorporated a sort of "preliminary" support for HD-DVD, but Apple as a company is a member of the Blu-Ray alliance. Go figure... Since the specs for HD-DVD is not complete, the way DVD SP 4 supports it is: You can use H-264 or MPEG-2 encoded HD streams, but the interactity and navigation featuresby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: NTSC Monitors - 17 years agoLet's hope that by the time our PVM monitors die, LCD (or another technology) has progressed in terms of fidelity and price. Technology usually works that way, right?by Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Custom Gradient Banding - Ugly - 17 years agoGreg: He did indirectly say he's using DV, because he mentioned a DVCAM deck as his monitoring/capture device. "That 4:2:2 quality that Adolpho is talkling about is based on an uncompressed timeline. DV color quality is half that or worse". Although uncompressed is 4:2:2 of course, there are compressed codecs that work with 4:2:2 color sampling too (most of them, actually. If they do, they are still the best option. Make sure to choose one with 4:3/16:9 switchable aspect ratio, blue check, and component I/O. A 14" PVM with those features costs about $1200-1500, if available. Both Sony and Panasonic are migrating to LCD technology, which is currerntlby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Custom Gradient Banding - Ugly - 17 years agoWell, Rockin Ron, 10 bit processing exists for a reason, right? Banding occurs when the color space isn't wide enough to accomodate the intermediate shades. Just to make sure, both FCP and Photoshop gradients have "dither" options to help with banding, do you have that turned on? The theory says that banding happens with 8 bit codecs for the reason explained before, but the practicalby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: Waveform monitor - 17 years agoBasically, what they are saying is that they build their applications not based on user needs but on particular technologies of an operating system. It's amazing that software companies seem to have a commitment to a particular OS, rather than market demand (Mac users are certainly not 5 per cent among video users, but much much more than that). Some people will argue that they are not accurate as the real thing (because they sample the image in 16 pixel steps). But for every practical purpose, they do work well for exposure and balance checking. In the Log and Capture Window there's a button that makes the Scopes appear. You can buy it alone and it also comes included with the Sorenson Squeeze for Quicktime (or Suite) encoding application. I find a bit hypocrite the argument of "as long as the OS works I don't care what's inside". I bought my first G4 in 1999 after reading a fantastic spread ad in Wired magazine: "Move over, speed of light". Not a single word about the OS, which didn't yet exist as OS X. It's probably "best DV material chroma software". DVMatte obviously produces strong antialisingi in order to get rid of DV's stairsteps, so you probably get fine but not great keying. According to what I read, Apple pays less for PowerPC than what others pays for Intel. For example, a Dual G5 is today cheaper than a Dual Xeon and an iBook is cheaper than a comparable PC laptop. This would give them the excuse they neby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA Re: OT: More fuel on the rumor of IBM - 17 years agoNow The Inquirer confirms the story too, mentioning AMD chips as well. This is starting to sound like hard fact. This is completely crazy. Our current hardware investments could be worth nothing after monday. The hard disk itself apparently is healthy inside, but I won't be able to use it until I buy a new case. Unfortunately, that hard disk has the 4.0 to 4.5 HD update I downloaded from Apple. In the past few days I've been noticing a few new things in Quicktime (the player, not just the arquitecture) that could make it in an indirect way one of the coolest things in the new Production Suite and IMHO one of the best Quicktime upgrades ever. The most obvious things are H.264 and multi-channel audio. I have no words to say how amazing H.264 is, not just for HD distribution but alsoby Adolfo Rozenfeld - Café LA |
