Re: best workflow with different stuff in multicam - 10 years agoX's multicam functioning is just fine but Plural Eyes works well too.by Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Orienting footage shot vertically in FCP - 11 years agoI just had to deal with someone who sent me some footage and was suffering from VVS. What a great short film. Loved it. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Motion 4 audio issue - 11 years agoHey Mark, I really didn't expect different results in Motion just thought I would try it since I rarely open Motion in the first place. The audio thing is what I am really puzzled about tho'. I don't own an iPhone so maybe, and I don't know, the audio that is recording in the iPhone is a different type, maybe PCM or something. Don't know why the export choices would be grayed out. Thatby Steve Douglas - Motion Motion 4 audio issue - 11 years agoWas given some shaky footage from a friend's iPhone and tried to stabilize it in FCPX. Bottom line, it was too shaky to stabilize without creating a very wavering effect. Okay, no big deal, I didn't think it was usable anyhow. Never the less, I decided to see what I could do in Motion 4 so I imported it there as a new saved project and added the stabilize behavior which took awhile as the whole cby Steve Douglas - Motion Re: FCPX updated today to 10.0.5 - More stable and faster. It's about time! - 11 years agoHey Russ, I really haven't had problems with FCX crashing but I did hear that the new 0.5 was causing crashes and I have not installed it yet. Are you using anything to go out to an external monitor and is that still okay in the new update? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCPX updated today to 10.0.5 - More stable and faster. It's about time! - 11 years agoVic, Once you get your head around the different concepts of X's projects and events vs 7's projects and sequences, the rest is intuitive. However, the only way to really learn it is not by fiddling around in it during breaks. Start a whole new project and do the work in X. You will learn quickly from that. I've been giving lessons in X to several via iChat where I can take over their comby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCPX updated today to 10.0.5 - More stable and faster. It's about time! - 11 years agoHey Vic, Afraid I can't provide a good answer. I have been using the MXO2 box for some time and have not reinstalled the BM Intensity Pro to test it with X. I would contact Black Magic to find out. While X has had a lot of criticisms, it is a very intuitive app that will continue to improve upon itself and, in some ways, vastly superior to FCP7 especially in terms of media management. Iby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCPX updated today to 10.0.5 - More stable and faster. It's about time! - 11 years agoMatrox appears to be under pressure from Adobe to get their driver out. I believe one has been released but was told that they are focusing on a new one. The universal driver he hesitantly said should be coming out in July. Whether or not you will be able bypass the install/uninstall is something that was not mentioned but 'universal' implies that you should be able to switch without having toby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCPX updated today to 10.0.5 - More stable and faster. It's about time! - 11 years agoSpoke to Matrox today and they haven't tested the update with their drivers as yet and advised not to do the update for Matrox users. Right now they are working on drivers for CS6 and should come out with a new universal driver for the MXO2 in July sometime. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCPX Feature Wish List - 11 years agoChange all the new keyboard shortcuts back to that default shortcuts found in FCP7. I know this can be done if you customize the keyboard but then, should you move to someone else's editing bay, it will no longer be what you are used to. Sometimes standardization across the board is a good thing. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: SCRATCH DISKS LOST - 11 years agoHis media is there..somewhere...I doubt he knows just where to look and unless the drive has totally crashed, a knowledgeable FCP editor should be able to find it. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: WWDC: New version of Final Cut Pro.... they said Pro and not X.. hmm. - 11 years agoYou can be pretty sure that when they do release that Mac Pro with Thunderbolt there will be no FW 800 ports so all these external drives I have will be almost useless. Guess I will stick to my current MacPro Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA For Sale 23" Apple Acrylic Monitor - 11 years agoHaven't used the monitor in a year or so. No dead pixels, no marks, scratches or anything negative. Just don't need it anymore. Make a fair offer and its yours. Steveby Steve Douglas - lafcpug Market Re: My Lacie external hard drive that has all my FCP projects has "corruption of the data on the drive" - 11 years agoI believe Lacie got in trouble way back when drives were fairly costly compared to today. Then they came out with their first 500 gig drives and up and that is when people started to complain. I own 3 older Lacies, 120, 200 and 320 gigs, use them just for archiving these days. Of course, they are all backed up a few times on other drives as well. Have never had a problem with them. Until tomoby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Larry Jordan reveals Apple's FCPX Roadmap - 12 years agoWow, things can get pretty heated around here. "The plugin issues are a good example. Sapphire Edge and Magic Bullet Looks were broken because they built in a workaround to an issue which, when Apple FIXED, broke the plugins." These plug ins were fixed within a couple of days and work just fine now in 10.0.4 It seems to me that there is a lot of good in FCPX...yes, it was releaby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Larry Jordan reveals Apple's FCPX Roadmap - 12 years agoGlad you could confirm and surprised that Apple really hasn't said a word about it and that they were 'on it'. I would have expected the latest update to bring the fix. I have 20 gigs of Ram and I still notice it. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Larry Jordan reveals Apple's FCPX Roadmap - 12 years agoGood question and I do not have an idea for an answer. Since this intermident stuttering has been confirmed by others, what would your answer be if not a ram issue? steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Larry Jordan reveals Apple's FCPX Roadmap - 12 years agoFrom everything I can figure, there is a ram leak that hasn't been fixed in 10.04. While it seems to run and accept my DSLR footage just fine and now to be able to see it on an external monitor via my MXO2 is wonderful but often playback stutters and I am fairly certain this is due to the ram leakage others have mentioned. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Beta release: Matrox 3.0.1 for FCP X 10.0.3 and Compressor - 12 years agoHas any progress or update been made since the initial release of the Matrox beta? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCP X freezing after start - 12 years agoSince this specific bug has not hit everyone, if you can't fix the situation, you can just trash FCX and then re-download and install from the App store.by Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Multiple clips of the same name - 12 years agoThis has happened twice to me now over a period of several weeks. I will open X and go to a clip. It works just fine but I also will see upwards of 15 copies of the clip in the browser. They have the same name but just show black when selected and do not play. It is easy enough to select and trash them but why would this occur in the first place. Just another bug? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCP on ebay - 12 years agoThere is nothing wrong with Academic versions of FCP. They were the same application. The only differences were that you could not buy just the update of the next version. You had to buy the whole new application. This was the same for the NFRs that were given out. They also could not be updated to the next version and you either bought the new version or got a new NFR. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Choice of editing monitor - 12 years agoI have been using the MXO2 box for some time now to a Sony Bravia XBR. While I am not a professional colorist, I have had excellent results with this system and the MXO2 has worked flawlessly. Just waiting for X's, hopefully worthwhile, update so that Matrox can update the firmware to allow external monitoring off of X as well as 7. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: End of FCP?? - 12 years agoIf someone actually bought FCP 7 the code would still need to be completely rewritten, a major and time consuming commitment. Not sure why Apple didn't go this route since they had the personnel and money to do so. But they went in the direction they did and that is that. If there really is a final nail to the coffin I believe it will be determined by the type of 'major' update we will see forby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: FCPX Feature Wish List - 12 years agoWho knows the answer to that one Jon but wouldn't it have been great to have seen it come to fruition. It would have saved a lot of griping. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: FCPX Feature Wish List - 12 years agoI can't believe that Apple actually had FCP 8 in the can, 64bit and all and decided not to release it. Unreal! I may have heard wrong but can someone enlighten me. Thanks. Multiple events will have many different keywords and collections and having to delete from one project/event to make room for the keywords applicable to another event is absurd.
