Re: Can't Trim When Zoomed in on 28 minute timeline - 12 years agothanks for the tip - I actually liked being able to see the target duration for an act (real pity they killed the FCP beast - all this useless knowledge of its myriad quirks - 10 years of it oh well...) Media Composer here I come...by drtuzi - Café LA Re: Can't Trim When Zoomed in on 28 minute timeline - 12 years agoNever mind! Continued my searching and found this go figure - extending marker durations (very useful when timing a show) make it impossible to trim the show to the proper length.by drtuzi - Café LA Can't Trim When Zoomed in on 28 minute timeline - 12 years agoBrand-spanking new imac 3.4 GHz i7 with 16 GB ram Latest version Snow Leopard latest (or last) version FCP 7 When I do shift-Z and can see the entire show in the timeline - I can click around without delay but when I need to fine tune something and zoom in close enough to trim effectively - everything bogs down I click, wait for the beach ball, wait some more - the playhead movesby drtuzi - Café LA Re: Corruption over network - Need Professional Help - 12 years agonope, no perian!by drtuzi - Café LA Re: Corruption over network - Need Professional Help - 12 years agoThanks for responding, guys - We have several stations - 2 lead editors, a couple of assistants, 2 animators - the show was shot 1080i xdcam ex and we finish in PreRes 422. There are a lot of files moving around. The idea HAS BEEN to have a fairly complete set of files available for each editor and copy items over from the main raid as they are created or needed. The drives are g-techby drtuzi - Café LA Corruption over network - Need Professional Help - 12 years agoWe're trying to finish 16 episodes of a kids show - no SAN, no fiber channel - just some drives plugged into a Mac Pro (mini sas, esata, firewire) and mac mini running some kind mini server over ethernet (I'm just one of the guys trying to edit on this system - I am not the IT guy who set it up). We're getting lots of corruption - especially as files are copied from one drive to another. We arby drtuzi - Café LA Best up-rez workflow for jvc hm100 footage - 12 years agoI've shot a lot of 720p with this camera - but now forced to use it on a 1080 project. Is it better to let the camera setting do the up-Rez? Or shoot native 720 and transcode in Fcs? Grateful to anyone who's dealt with this - thanks!by drtuzi - Café LA Re: The clip that wasn;t there (?) - 12 years agoupdate: tried removing the nest - ghost clip still thereby drtuzi - Café LA The clip that wasn;t there (?) - 12 years agoCutting a 1081 show in FCP 7 - a file that is part of the project but no longer present in the timeline CONTINUES TO DISPLAY in the canvas. This actual clip appears normally (as online) in the browser, but it's ghost appearance says it is offline. this is a section where there is only one layer - no composite, no nesting in that section (there is a nest earlier that contains the mystery cliby drtuzi - Café LA Re: Best Screen Grap Program? - 12 years agoHey guys - I'd like to piggyback a related question - for video caps on the mac, I usually use ishowu because you can keep everything in prores. Anyone know what the best route would be for windows screen capture? I know everybody uses camtasia, but again - I want to edit the stuff back in FCP in ProRes. Also - anyone have experience with video screen capture of an application in action usingby drtuzi - Café LA Re: Anyone editing FCP 7 on a iMac, Quad Core. How's it compare to a Mac Pro Quad Core? - 13 years agoI do 30s 1280x720 spots every day on my i5 iMac (16 gigs RAM) - I have multiple layers from motion and I'm usually humming right along in ProRes 422. I have done longer form stuff with lots of layers where I feel it bog down a bit and I wish I had more horsepower - but I seem to remember feeling that way with every system once it reaches it limits - I guess you'd just reach that boundary a litby drtuzi - Café LA Re: APPLE RELEASE NEW MACS!!! (In August) - 13 years agoTo make the conversation a bit more pedestrian... How bout those new iMacs! Seriously - how about them - has anyone heard if they have the same crappy ethernet controller that doesn't allow jumbo frames? This was an issue on the first i5 and i7 iMacs - but the core duos were fine in this regard (was trying to set up an EditShare network without investing in macpros) was hoping this iby drtuzi - Café LA OT: Designing Temporary Workspace for Multiple Editors - 13 years agoOk, maybe "designing" is a bit high falutin' for what I'm doing - I'm trying to figure out how much space we can afford to rent and how many workstations we can cram in there . It's a fifteen hour educational project. Lots of running time, no budget. We're going to have 3 lead editors, 4 assistants, a mograph guy, an audio guy, a flash guy, and a bunch of writers wandering around,by drtuzi - Café LA Re: Motion Favorites - 13 years agoIt's not a question about the Motion App - it is about using favorites in final cut pro - you know, as in the Favorites bin - which can include filters, transitions, generators and, yes, motion settings. There is even an item in the FCP effects menu called "Motion Favorites" This shouldn't have been moved.by drtuzi - Motion Motion Favorites - 13 years agoWhen you apply a motion favorite - it scales the attributes is there any way to turn that off like you can in paste attributes? Thanksby drtuzi - Motion Re: Truncated RT Popup - 13 years agoIf you create a new sequence and open sequence settings - under frame size, aspect ratio -there is an option that reads NTSC (4:3) if you select it - Final Cut loads the dimensions 640 x 480 in the width and height fieldsby drtuzi - Café LA Re: Truncated RT Popup - 13 years agoYup. The thing that really threw me was that RT wasn't working on any of my NTSC (4:3) sequences (640x480). I didn't know that was not supported.by drtuzi - Café LA Truncated RT Popup - 13 years agoWent to change RT from safe to unlimited and all the options went missing - Safe RT Unlimited RT Video Quality Frame Rate all missing only displays Play Base Layer and Record settings - nothing changed in render control or playback control - even trashed prefs - and the menu items are still missing. Sometimes, I'll be able to work no worries with FCP, MOTION and AE all open at the same time. But other times, like today, I'll just have FCP open and I'll be unable to open ANYTHING else. Not a complex projectby drtuzi - Café LA Re: LaCie 500GB Rugged portable hard drive - 13 years agoI use these only as DATA TRANSPORT drives. I think of them as FedEx envelopes. I own five of them, but wouldn't trust them with anything that wasn't already on a raid. I have to erase/reformat often due to slowing/directory corruption. Slightly more reliable than other Lacie products (I have sent many of those back for replacement and repair) but Ben is right - the HEAT is astonishing - even whenby drtuzi - Café LA Re: Storage for location editing? - 13 years agoI have been left in a ditch by so many HD's - Caldigit is the only one who hasn't let me down. When you compare it with the cost of lost hours and lost data with downmarket drives - A Caldigit in Raid 1 config is as cheap as it gets. Don't know why you'd consider anything else.by drtuzi - Café LA Re: JVC GY-M100U - 13 years agoI always shoot at 1280x720 with this camera. It's a knockout at that resolution for the price. And no issues to report in post. However, if you really need 1080i - shoot a test before you buy and make sure you are happy with the higher rez image. You have to remember, it's only got 1/4" ccd's.by drtuzi - Café LA Re: OT: Solved: The mathematics of the Hollywood blockbuster - 13 years agoI love that the guy's name is James CUTTING.by drtuzi - Café LA Re: Unavailable Shortcut (?) - 13 years agoAh! ...or shall I say DOH! Scary thread. I have a huge job coming in march. I was going to have five guys working with me. I thought: I'll just get final cut server. That will make life easy. Whoops. Wrong again. Question is - if I hired someone like Jeff - would the FC Server setup make management of files and workflow easier? Or is it just another layer of complication I don't really need.
