Re: FCP7 Process/Workflow Redux - 11 years agoLoren- I did a job two weeks ago that was mostly native XDCam optical 50mbs footage, but at 60i. Because there were six hours of interviews that were going to be carved up into a handful of :20 bumpers and a couple of 1:00 teases I skipped the transcode step and went native. Loaded the footage from the disks and started carving away. You know I have been using this program for 10 years, and every time I think I know it someone shows me there is another trick hidden somewhere inside. Not only can you set an absolute duration that way but you can add or subtract a global amount of time to clips of different durations.by VPiccin - Café LA Re: Mixing Formats - 11 years ago===>I didn't use MPEG Streamclip because I can't do big batch conversions in that program Not as a recommendation, but as a note, MPeg Streamclip does have a batch function. There is a handle in X that might help. Your original post mentioned using hum removal. There is a control right above that in the Audio Enhancements called background noise that might be useful. Unfortunately I have very limited experience with X.by VPiccin - Café LA - X Re: Getting rid of hiss on a clip - 11 years agoAnother option is one you probaby already own. In Soundtrack Pro there is a noise reduction process. It is a bit of bother to use, but can do a pretty good job, especially on consistent noises like hiss, air-conditioning and the like. You send your clip or project to Soundtrack Pro. Then look for Noise reduction in the process menu. First highlight a short bit of the noise that has no other soby VPiccin - Café LA - X Re: Out of sync - 11 years agoHow are the audio video getting to your broadcast monitor and speakers? I have see problems like this when the settings for the capture card do not agree with the source video and timeline. Some cards will do their best to keep up even when being told bad info about what to put out. Make sure your capture card settings in FCP and the cards control panel are set to the video type you are using. Another consideration is the SAN software, and again there are a couple of different styles to think about. First the hardware. I can think of three existing technologies, 2 lighting fast, but complex and expensive. The other is simpler, but doesn't carry as much data. My guess is that your stills are pretty hi resolution. Most things shot even on an iPhone these days have a larger pixel matrix then HD television. DVD's are standard definition only. So when you take your finished presentation and crunch it down to to the file specification for a DVD (720x486 MPEG 2)by VPiccin - Café LA Re: CalDigit VR2 Benefits - 11 years agoA couple of years back I bought the Caldigit card to setup an internal RAID in my Mac Pro. Unfortunately the way my system, a 2009 4.1, is configured the Sata ports on the drives were unavailable to the Caldigit card. To use it that way I would have had to get sleds that mounted the drives connector side out, and wired power and data with new cables. I have installed that card, along with theby VPiccin - Café LA Re: sourcing from YouTube - 12 years agoI have had pretty good luck with a web site called keepvid.com. It captures things moving across the frame without the strobing you see at 30 or 24 frame rates. It also gives you smoother slo-mo effects. FOX, ABC and ESPN adopted it as their broadcast format in part for that reason. -Vby VPiccin - Café LA - X Re: HDTV to Mac Pro - 12 years agoIf you want to play them out the HDMI and recapture them in Final Cut you will need a way to capture them. FCPx does not really deal with capturing real time video files, or at least the way other programs do. Most Capture cards come with capture utilities that will do this. You then import the files into FCP. Can you get to the files as data files and transcode them? It would save you theby VPiccin - Café LA - X Re: dual format VCR question - 12 years agoStefan- There is a quirk in NTSC analog video when it is made digital. The number you are expecting, 720x486, assumes that the pixels are not square, but rather have a .9 aspect ratio. This has to do with the frequency that the digital system uses to clock the capture of the analog signal. When you see 640x480 it means that the image is using computer native square pixels. So that raster hby VPiccin - Café LA Re: Serious Export issues - 12 years agoAre the bad frames you are seeing perhaps artifacts of converting your 720p/59.94 to 23.98? That is a pretty harsh frame rate change, and left to it's own devices FCP will give it the old college try, but isn't really the best place to do the conversion. There are others here with far more experience than I at those kinds of changes who may have better ideas, but here is something to try.by VPiccin - Café LA Re: Offline - Online Issues with XDCAM - 12 years agoAfter I snapped off my reply I took a look at Bourke's tool. I was pretty impressed. Unfortunately in my work I wouldn't find much use for it. Unless you are working with massive amounts of material, like the reality base programing it was created for, the offline/online workflow isn't really necessary. Even at it's highest data rate, 50mbs, XDCam is only twice as heave as DV. Most editing consists of taking individual clips and building a story on the timeline. Your works seems to be more along the lines of cleaning up single clips. Lets say you were a happy user of standard definition video at a raster size of 720x480. Then you switched your workflow to HD using a raster of 1920x1080. If you continued to use old shells from your SD After Effects projects you would get the results you describe. Try the filter there. No luck, create a new project and repeat. Also try the filter on a different clip in the current project. See if you can isolate the problem to the clip, the sequence or the project.by VPiccin - Café LA Re: TV Broadcast using FCP7? - 12 years agoFinal Cut is not meant to replicate the functions of a live broadcast switcher. It is designed to capture 1 stream of video at a time. It would be possible to capture multiple streams with several systems, of course, but you are going to have to have one copy of the program, running on a separate workstation for each angle you want to capture. There are much more efficient ways to do this. Evby VPiccin - Café LA Re: OT-Old Day Editing Systems - 12 years agoLet's see.
