Moving edit point to playhead. - 13 years agoI can't remember the keystroke for moving the edit point to the play head. I have an edit point selected then I press "u" to get to one side or the other, when I press "v" the playhead moves to the edit point, but I want a key for moving the edit point to the playhead. Thanks, Clayby claylyons - Café LA Re: Recommendations for Editing Keyboard - 13 years agoThanks All, good information! I was thinking of getting one because I edit on a laptop and some of the F keys double up, but I guess I can just turn them off in preferences if there isn't any advantage to having an editing keyboard. -Clayby claylyons - Café LA Re: general question about subclips - 13 years agoWhat is blading(control-v)? I am unfamiliar with this process. Thanks, Clayby claylyons - Café LA Recommendations for Editing Keyboard - 13 years agoHi all, I'm looking to buy a FCP usb editing keyboard, can anyone recommend which one is best? Thanks, Clayby claylyons - Café LA Exported OMF - 15 years agoAccording to Apple Support "Audio filter information cannot be exported in OMF files. " Does this mean the filter effects won't come through or just a notation of which filters and settings have been used? -Clayby claylyons - Café LA Re: perpetual reconnect media - 15 years agoYes, telling FCP to forget the files worked. Thanks, Clayby claylyons - Café LA Re: perpetual reconnect media - 15 years agoThanks Derek Seems logical enough. -Clayby claylyons - Café LA accurate pitch shift - 15 years agoI conformed a 25fps sequence to 23.98fps. I now need to pitch shift the audio. How do I do this accurately with the pitch shift tool in STP which uses semi tones and cents to mark degrees of change? -Clayby claylyons - Soundtrack Pro perpetual reconnect media - 15 years agoI have an older project that when I start up it asks me to reconnect media I haven't needed for quite some time. Is Final Cut referencing older sequences that I have in my project or is there a way to wipe all the older media links in the project? -Clayby claylyons - Café LA Re: Merged Clips - 16 years agoThanks Nick. Doing the lot as batch is a good idea. -Clayby claylyons - Café LA Merged Clips - 16 years agoUsing FCP 6.0.2 I have created merged clips by syncing boom mic audio from a deck and what was captured from the camera which has two audio tracks from an on-camera mic. Is there a way to easily drop the in-camera audio tracks from the merged clips. And is there a way to have that change reflected in an already edited sequence. Thanks as always, Clayby claylyons - Café LA Re: Changing Clip Names - 16 years agoThanks for the advice, I think that renaming after I edited was a big source of the problem, but also I can see that renaming might not be such a good idea in general. cheers, Clayby claylyons - Café LA Changing Clip Names - 16 years agoI am using FCP 6.0.2, OS X 10.4.11, and QuickTime 7.4.1. Short Version: I have renamed all my video clips in a recent project and then selected Rename (File to Match Clip). Unfortunately media manager has held onto to the original file names from the capture. Long Version: I captured a bunch of clips and made a preliminary edit. I then started a new project renamed the clips accordiby claylyons - Café LA Re: adjusting audio level of a track - 16 years agoThanks Derek, Worked like a charm! and you're right about archiving; it's an art just like organizing a project. I'm still learning these things, but the learning curve is definitely leveled by the expert advice on this forum. Cheers, Clayby claylyons - Café LA adjusting audio level of a track - 16 years agoI have adjusted the audio levels variably using keyframes in a multitrack sequence. Now I want to raise an entire track by a few decibels without adjusting the relative keyframe placements. I believe this can be done by exporting the project as a multitrack to Soundtrack Pro, but I want to know if its possible to do this in FCP 6.0.1 Peaceby claylyons - Café LA Re: little red triangles - 16 years agoThanks for the quick and informative response! I hope 2008 is a great year for everyone on this forum.by claylyons - Café LA little red triangles - 16 years agoWhat are the little red triangels pointing towards each other at certain edit points in the video track?by claylyons - Café LA Compressor Workflow - 16 years agoI just got thetutorial 'The Art of Encoding Using Compressor'. A workflow suggestion was made to export your timeline, unrendered, to compressor and let it handle the job of rendering to get the highest quality Mpeg-2. Does this mean disconnecting or trashing render files before outputing or just not doing a final render? It seems you have to render while your editing in order to view the effeby claylyons - Café LA Re: FCP 2 Expert in Albuquerque/Santa Fe - 16 years agoPosition has been filled!by claylyons - Jobs FCP 2 Expert in Albuquerque/Santa Fe - 16 years agoI am looking for an editor who can take our doc through the last phases of completion which include color correction and audio sweetening. This 55 min documentary has been edited in FCP 2 and needs a few small changes, and the finishing touches. Ultimately we will produce a PAL and a NTSC DVD. This project includes HDV video footage shot on 24p and 25i, subtitles, and closed caption titles. Sby claylyons - Jobs Re: Video Bitrate Too High - 16 years agoThanks for the explanation. It seems that the settings in the encoding tab in preferences determine the video bit rate. I had previously assumed that was only used if you were doing compression within DVD Studio Pro and not Compressor. I guess that the Build process utilizes these parameters. Now if the Disc Meter says 3.8 or 4.0 GB it should fit on a DVD-5 theoretically, but I get thisby claylyons - DVD Studio Pro Video Bitrate Too High - 16 years agoI have DVD Studio Pro 4.2.0 & MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz; I made a DVD from a 4.47 GB MPEG2 .mov file( 55 min project) and when I import the assets it went down to something like 2 GB. This played fine, but I wanted all 4.47 GB of info for hiqher quality DVD. I then imported the same 4.47 GB MPEG2 project that was an .m2v and the Disc Meter said 3.8 GB. Before the A update there were sometimes 80 broken files, now it doesn't seem to be anymore than 20.by claylyons - Café LA Re: JVC HD 720p24 in a 1080i50 timeline - 16 years agoBCA, Thanks, of course this would be ideal to go 1080i component output to HD-SDI input card. I might do that in a later stage and online the orginal tapes that way if it makes a qualitative difference. At this point I find that capturing in 720p24 and rendering to 1080i50 and upscaling to look adequate. Its just a new situation to me so I wanted to check my logic. The JVC footage when captured in FCP is broken into many clips.by claylyons - Café LA Re: making smaller video files - 16 years agoDuh, I forgot to make the clips into subclips. This made the green keyframe line much more manageable. -Clayby claylyons - Café LA making smaller video files - 16 years agoMacBook Pro 2.33, OSX 10.4.9, FCP 5.1.4 I have a project where I have captured entire 60 minute tapes( HDV). I was trying to Time Remap a 20s clip from one of these tapes and had difficulty using the green keyframe line, because the source file was so long there was no way to zoom in on just the 20s I was working with. I then made a self contained movie , and imported the new file. I am wby claylyons - Café LA Re: Installed Updates -- now FCP won't work - 18 years agoJust had the same problem with 5.04 updated.
