Re: URGENT, DEADLINE! Trying to output HD feature doc but getting "Out of Memory" error msg - 9 years agoA most intriguing set of options, thank you Andrew. I'd never heard of either using the Batch Monitor nor QMaster. I now see my computer has both. I will try the cluster technique you describe. That could be HUGE for me. Right now I am exporting the 120GB movie in QT 7 itself, and it seems to be working, b/c I have the screen size at 400x225 which is the same aspect ratio as 1280x720. Suggestions by you (and Andrew) worked perfectly and I output my 77-min HD feature doc to QT with no "Out of Memory" msg. The QT file weighs in at 110GB. Problem now is that, for my client, I must compress that way down to 1.5 GB, which is about 1% of the original (!). In trying to do so, compressor hogs ALL the RAM (12GB) on my 7-year-old Mac Pro tower, and thenby Michael Singh - Café LA Re: URGENT, DEADLINE! Trying to output HD feature doc but getting "Out of Memory" error msg - 9 years agoThank you Nick! I see that you, too, are pushing Compressor. I will have to brush up on that. And I will use "Same Settings" as you suggest. I really appreciate your prompt and specific solutions. THANK YOU. Michaelby Michael Singh - Café LA Re: URGENT, DEADLINE! Trying to output HD feature doc but getting "Out of Memory" error msg - 9 years agoWow thank you very much Andrew, yes I have big stills and CMYK. OK I will export at same codec and size as sequence. I don't like Compressor but will force myself to use it per your advice. THANK YOU so much. - Michaelby Michael Singh - Café LA URGENT, DEADLINE! Trying to output HD feature doc but getting "Out of Memory" error msg - 9 years agoFCP 7 on my Mac Pro tower running OS 10.6.8 with 12 GB RAM refuses to export 76 minute roughcut of an HD show. Within minutes it says "Out of Memory" even tho my computer's Activity Monitor indicates lots of free RAM. I believe FCP 7 can handle up to 2 GB RAM, so what is the problem (!?!?). Same thing when I tried to export the first half of the show (38 mins). Clicking on Batch Capture, however, resulted in a black screen. While troubleshooting that, I must have undone the correct Capture or other setting(s), because now my FCP 7 can NO LONGER see the "deck" (palmcorder). We're on a European broadcast deadline. How to paste approx 200 lower third chyrons (interviewees' names, date stamps on archival footage etc) from our NTSC 29.97 sequence, into the European sequence of the film, which is at 25fps. The film runs 95 minutes. Both of them require XML imports, I believe, for translators and for closed captioning respectively. To create spotting lists. Didn't even realize we were "skimping" on the prep. So I guess you have pinpointed the cause. This means re-conforming 500+ clips, or skipping that and just going w the flow, fixing things as they break down. Ugh. But thanks for your diagnosis.by Michael Singh - Café LA Re: losing tails of a shot, or whole shot, or slipping sync, while outputting to QT - 11 years agoI have 500+ shots from a very wide variety of media, mostly archival footage, often using Snapz, or DVcam footage, or .mov files from some other source. What should I check for, on each shot's settings, looking for anomalies? Field dominance is set to None all the way through. Is that ok?by Michael Singh - Café LA losing tails of a shot, or whole shot, or slipping sync, while outputting to QT - 11 years agoOnce or twice during an export from FCP 7 to QT, a shot will cut off its tails, or will disappear altogether. The show is 95 mins long, and this only happens infrequently. I've also lost sync on an audio clip, once. Why? Exporting to an internal drive. I've trashed preferences, copied and pasted the sequence into a clean new sequence, to no avail. Thanks for any advice. I now recall another important factor: we shot w/ more than one camera. Each camera has to be given different settings. The archival footage has its own, too. The interviews were shot with a FAKE 16:9 mask, in camera. So the aspect ratio looks to be a small 16:9, because the top and bottom have black bars to create the fake 16:9 "look." 29.97 fps.
