Re: Sony V1U terminates when plugging into External HD using Firewire 800 - 11 years agoNo need for hub. Use IO menu (opposing arrows) on V1u to set it for HDV out, not downconvert. Change that before connecting to Mac. Set FC for Sony HDV capture. Might need to Quit and Open FC after connection. It can be finicky. I prefer to NOT chain Firewire. Connect external HD and camera to iMac ports.by phil_cramer - Café LA Re: IDVD 16X9 from FCP..not quite the same old question... - 13 years agoPaul, I think most recent version of QuickTime "fixed" that need to resize from 820 to 873 so just try to skip it and see if that doesn't fix you problem.by phil_cramer - Café LA Re: Speakers for Video & Sound Editing- Need Suggestions - 13 years agoI've enjoyed reading the discussion. I'd like to filter out this nearly pure 440 Hz tone. I've dinked around in Soundtrack Pro but don't seem to find just the right filter (pack?). I've been looking for a "notch" filter with a very narrow freq. range. I've tried sampling the tone and doing a noise removal but it wasnby phil_cramer - Soundtrack Pro Re: Camcorder video tutorial - 13 years agoSheryl, I own a v1u but I found this DVD on the Z7U very helpful. That won't work. With Sony plugin installed, you use Log and Transfer INSTEAD of Log and Capture. You can ignore the mounted drive in Finder. Did you install the plug-in in the right place? Log and Transfer should not have been an option before you installed Sony plug-in. Hope this is of some help.by phil_cramer - Café LA Re: Have footage from Sony HVR Z7U - Flash card and files are avi how do I use in FCP? - 14 years agoYou still need to get the Sony plug-in so you can do a "Log and Transfer" of the files. I've failed to explain myself well. I prefer to play piano with two hands. I don't want to always use my right hand (tablet). Clicking with a stylus requires a heavier grip than just "steering" the cursor and it causes the cursor to move ever so slightly. That's why Wacom has the double-click assistance feature in their settings. At least on my 4x6 size tablet, the cursor moves a slight amount making it tricky to get a proper double-click or right click with the stylus. With the trackball however, the cursor stays perfectly still (I raise the stylus up so cursor doesn't move) while I do my clicks with trby phil_cramer - Café LA Re: Wacom tablet or Kensington trackball - 14 years agoI use BOTH a Wacom and Kennsington Turbomouse. Long ago mousing gave me painful tendonitis. Tablet size for me relates to your screen size. I've used 4x6 tablets with smaller monitors fine but my 24" demands a larger tablet area like 7x10" or larger. Tablets don't fit well with double monitor setups since you have to map your tablet for what amounts to a double-wide monitor. We can Capture from tape via firewire just like with my V1u, but have a problem with getting footage directly from the CF card. I've transferred the files using the Finder but only MPEG Streamclip reads them and converts them. FC rejects them. Is there a direct way to ingest for FCP? Latest FCS and OS updates installed. Considering adding the 2408 with hdmi input to display video from Sony V1u camcorder. It would normally be a second project monitor. I don't yet have an HD board or box for my G5. If I get an ioHD or such, would the 2408 be an OK preview monitor? Not for color grading but for focus/sharpness and like. You have the choice to make it "mirror" the folder you are backing up in which case it will delete any files you delete. The backed up folder exactly matches the folder you are backing up. It's digital. The tape speed and helical angles are different; 40 min vs 60 min. per tape. The audio in DVcam is "locked". I've done this many times. In iPhoto, make an album, get pics into it however you want, arrange pics into sequence.
