Re: Setting timeline tab colors in FCP 7 - 13 years agoYeah, I figgered it out. The online Apple docs were of no use tho... Thanks guysby bscenefilms - Café LA Setting timeline tab colors in FCP 7 - 13 years agoAnyone know how to do that?by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: How much RAM do you have?? - 15 years agoI have 6GB on mine and the wife has 12. She has 12 because she runs a couple of VMWare sessions with 3GB allocated to each. I only ever run 1 VM session with 3GB allocated.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: File recovery service wanted. - 15 years agoYou might also see if it will play in VLC. VLC is more tolerant of glitches in media files than QT.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Lightwave 3D exports acting Strange in FCP - 15 years agoThe interface that LW has to QT sucks for some reason. I fought with it for a while until the LW geeks over at spinquad told me to never EVAR compress using LW. ONLY output image sequences. If your 3D guy tries to output to h.264 QT, he will crash LW about 80 percent of the time and then when it DOES finish and you try to run the file, it will be corrupted...by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Lightwave 3D exports acting Strange in FCP - 15 years agoI use LW output into FCP all the time - I ALWAYS output an image sequence from LW. NEVER an AVI or MOV or anything else. ALWAYS TIFF sequence. If you dont want to deal with image sequence in FCP, load em into QT pro and save it as a QT animation. Or compress to Prores or whatever you like.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: 2 cinema displays - 15 years agoTo clarify further, the USB / FW cables on the display are just provided so that you can extend those ports from the back of the MacPro up to the desktop in the monitor. They do not drive the monitor in any way whatsoever. Just the DVI connections will do that for you.by bscenefilms - Café LA Interrupt round trip? - 15 years agoSoooo I send my project from FCP to STP. In STP I double click on an audio clip in the timeline and it opens up in the editor. I do some noise reduction. I click back on the tab that has my main project in it and see how it sounds with the other clips. Satisfied I click the next clip and edit it. Rinse repeat. It's late and I need to stop for the night. I save my main project and quit STP.by bscenefilms - Soundtrack Pro Re: Leopard vs. Tiger - 15 years agoWith the exception of ProKit, I have the same setup running as Ben and it runs just fine. This is on a new 8 core MacPro.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Leopard vs. Tiger - 15 years agoIf it is a NEW MacPro you MUST use Leopard on it due to the updated hardware in the new MacPro. Shane Ross can speak to this specifically.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: OT: Another "Shot In The Arm" for Blu-Ray... - 15 years agoI will speculate here that the porn industry does not have the clout it once did. I am currently installing the PPC version and will be testing FCS with it and blogging my results atby bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Got Leopard? Post your problems/joys/thoughts here - 15 years agoDid a write up on this a while back:by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: FCS centric review of Mac Pro - 15 years agoI think it's a REALLY close call. In theory, twice as many cores, faster bus speed and faster core speed (just a nudge, really) I actually expected a bit more. One of the things I did not mention in that review though was when I loaded up the project on the 4 core, the render bar was red and it would not play before a render. On Angus, the render bar was orange and it played RT just fine.by bscenefilms - Café LA FCS centric review of Mac Pro - 15 years agoI did a review of the new Mac Pro 8 core using only FCS apps and contrasting it to a 2007 4 core machine. Check it out atby bscenefilms - Café LA Re: 8 Core Macs vs. Quad core should I upgrade? / graphics card upgrade? - 15 years agoReview is up over atby bscenefilms - Café LA Re: 8 Core Macs vs. Quad core should I upgrade? / graphics card upgrade? - 15 years agoI should add that FCP was using all 8 cores all of the time - RT playback - whatever. It engaged them all.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: 8 Core Macs vs. Quad core should I upgrade? / graphics card upgrade? - 15 years agoI took an HD clip and added CC to it and then rendered that. All 8 cores were grinding on the process. They all sat at about 3/4ths processing capacity during the render.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: 8 Core Macs vs. Quad core should I upgrade? / graphics card upgrade? - 15 years agoBy Sunday night I will have a review of the 8 core 2.8 machine and I will directly contrast it's performance to last year's 4 core 2.6. These tests pit the machines against each other using ONLY FCS 2.0. While the MacWorld lab tests are interesting, I wanted a job specific comparison of the two machines. So keep your eyes peeled at my blog over atby bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Versioning - 15 years agoWell I think that means that OS X handles NAS permissions differently. I would be curious to see what happens if you PUSH a project file from one machine to the other and bypass the NAS device and see if you can open the file that way. Then if you get the failure, PULL the file from the other machine and try to open it - I bet you will see the same thing I did.by bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Versioning - 15 years agoOK, I got around it. It is a permissions issue. Here is what I did: And I will try to make this as clear as possible... 2 machines - Angus and Bigmac. I create a project on Angus and I copy the media and project file to bigmac - I am doing this from Angus. I go over to Bigmac and try to open the project and I get a version error. I check permissions on the file and I see that there iby bscenefilms - Café LA Re: Versioning - 15 years agoYeah I thought it might be some weird permission issue, Tom. Thanks for the response. I am going to do a little more digging to see what I need to do to overcome this without doing an XML transfer...by bscenefilms - Café LA Versioning - 15 years agoI have 2 Mac Pro machines. Each is running Leopard. Each is running FCP 6.02. I create a simple project on one of the machines. I copy the project file to the other machine across the network. I try to load it up on the other machine and FCP says that it's too new of a file and it cannot load it. What gives?
