Re: Imported HD files are too dark - 6 years agoThanks for the input. Still doing some trouble-shooting.by Paul C - Café LA Imported HD files are too dark - 6 years agoHi, Further issues with importing HD footage into FCP 6.06 on Mac OS 10.6.8. Mac Pro. I have a new Panasonic DVX200 camera. I transfer .mov contents of the memory card to my Mac. I have a couple of programs (iSkysoft Video Converter) and trial of Brorsoft to convert the files to ProRes for a suitable ProRes sequence in FCP. In both converter programs, the clips are noticeably dark when Iby Paul C - Café LA Re: Importing AVCHD into fcp 6.06 - 6 years agoThanks. I've since come across a few MTS converters. The trial version of iskysoft video converter appears to work okay, but I will need their older version that works for FCP 6.0.6. And I'll keep tinkering with the files on my card.by Paul C - Café LA Importing AVCHD into fcp 6.06 - 6 years agoHello, I have a new Panasonic DVX200 and am trying to Log and Transfer the AVCHD files into FCP 6.06. I've transferred other AVCHD files in the past, and know to ingest the entire AVCHD folder. I transferred the footage from the memory card onto my Mac via a card reader. For some reason I get the error message about unsupported file types when I try to log and transfer. The footage is PSby Paul C - Café LA Re: Creating a small, decent QT file - 9 years agoThanks for the response. Actually, I do have clients who don't quite get the intricacies of Hightail, simple as it is. Hence my attempts to email a small file when possible. P.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Creating a small, decent QT file - 9 years agoYes, I know 8-10 is tiny. This client has spotty internet access and avoids big downloads, and even downloading from an ftp site would be a bit advanced for them. I just try to accommodate clients' needs when it's required.by Paul C - Café LA Creating a small, decent QT file - 9 years agoHi, Something very simple here but I can't figure it out. I have a 3-minute DV project which is 2/3 stills and 1/3 video. I'm in FCP 6.06. I can export a rough cut for PC-based client and make a decent looking WMV file (via Flip for Mac) at about 8-10 MB in size which is small enough to email rather than upload via FTP site. Client wants another version sent to Mac-based person. (WMby Paul C - Café LA frame rate when importing stills - 10 years agoHi -- I've done this dozens of times without a hitch and now I'm getting different results. All I'm doing in scanning photos in PS and bringing them into FCP. My sequence settings are basic DV 720x480 with 29.97 frame rate. For some reason, once I import the images into FCP, they apparently have a frame rate of 59.94. If I want to bring them into FCP at a duration of 6 seconds, I have to set tby Paul C - Café LA Re: DVD to FCP - 12 years agoWhenever I get b-roll on a DVD, I play the DVD from a set-top DVD player/recorder, through my miniDV deck, and firewire into FCP.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Best inport format to edit in FC - 12 years agoSlightly off topic, but I have the same JVC DV5100 camera and never realized the purpose of the "squeeze" option (vs letterbox), so I've only shot in 4:3 when I use this camera. What a great discovery. Many thanks. PCby Paul C - Café LA Snazzing up a title - 12 years agoHi, I made a simple title in Motion, one line of text that fades in from left. Is there a filter in Motion where I can give it a kind of shimmer effect, with a little sparkle or glint at the end, something like you'd see in a soap commercial or something. Or is this something that After Effects is required for. And if I could emboss the text to give it that 3D look, that would be good too.by Paul C - Motion More info when capturing - 12 years agoWhen capturing footage it would be nice to see a real-time timer indicating how much footage you're capturing. Even Premiere had this 10 years ago.by Paul C - FCP Feature Requests Grids in Viewer - 12 years agoIt would be good to have the option for simple grid lines in the Viewer, if you want to see the space marked out in halves and quarters etc. They already have 2 choices for checkerboard, so some lines shouldn't be any trouble.by Paul C - FCP Feature Requests Re: How to get video from personal DVD into FCP? - 12 years agoCould you just play the DVD on an external DVD player, run it into your computer and then capture it in FCP?by Paul C - Café LA Re: Removing light-caused flicker - 12 years agoThanks, I'll check that out. Paul C.by Paul C - Café LA Removing light-caused flicker - 12 years agoHi, I've got some South American footage (HD) shot indoors and now that I'm viewing it on a monitor, I see that the fluorescent lights are flickering. (I didn't notice this in my HVX-200 viewfinder at the time or I would have adjusted the shutter speed.) Any ideas on removing the flicker? (flicker filter doesn't help.) Thanks, Paulby Paul C - Café LA Re: Need to format hard drive? - 12 years agoLooks like I should reformat. Thanks for the tips. Paulby Paul C - Café LA Need to format hard drive? - 12 years agoHi, I used a brand new 1 TB "rocstor" hard drive in the field during a recent shoot, with 90 GB of P2 footage now on it. I now want to start editing and plan to use this drive externally on my G5. This hard drive was plug and play and I didn't have a chance to (Mac) format it. I've already done test logging and transferring of the P2 footage and it all seems to work fine. Do I still neeby Paul C - Café LA Re: Best result for DVD? - 13 years agoThanks for the advice. Sounds like going from FCP timeline out to the DVD recorder is not the best way. On a side note, I must say though that after burning a few hundred DVDs in my Pioneer and Panasonic recorders, I haven't had any returned as unplayable. I do a lot of transferring old VHS and 8mm film to DVD for clients, and it works great for that task. Cheers, Paul C.by Paul C - DVD Studio Pro Best result for DVD? - 13 years agoHi, Which would result in a better quality DVD (DV footage in 4:3, no menus): 1. Bring my QT file into Compressor for MPEG 2 and then DVD Studio Pro 2. Using Print to Video from FCP timeline, firewire to my deck, then into a set-top DVD recorder. Thanks for any input. P.by Paul C - DVD Studio Pro Best format to import for 16:9 DVD - 13 years agoHi, My timeline in FCP is DVCPro HD / 1280 x720 / 60 fps. I export a self-contained QT movie at same settings. All is well. I import into SP. I want to make a standard DVD at 16:9 rather than 4:3, to retain the widescreen effect. (Rather than convert file to letterboxed 4:3) I find the right settings in SP etc., the DVD has the correct look (widescreen), but the picture quality is quiteby Paul C - DVD Studio Pro Noise removal for entire clip - 13 years agoHi, My voiceover file has a slight bit of room noise I'd like to remove. I highlight a section with the noise and make a noise print, and can remove it nicely for the highlighted area. I hit Apply, to remove noise from entire clip, but it doesn't seem to be working. My highlighted noise print area has the noise removed, but I can't seem to apply that change to the entire clip. (In some cases this gives the image a bit more of a "lift" effect.) I've tinkered with the Viewer's drop shadow command with angles and offset etc. but no luck. Paul C.by Paul C - Café LA Best choice for export? - 13 years agoHi, This is my first project using an HD sequence. Footage was shot on an HVX200 in 720p60. My FCP sequence is 960x720. Footage looks fine. all is well. (I used the sequence preset for DVCPro HD). When I'm done, I have to provide a QT file for the web, which they convert to Flash. (They can run it in 16:9.) What's the best setting for export when I get to that point? Something 16:9-isby Paul C - Café LA Re: Log and Transfer glitch? - 14 years agoThanks for the audio tip -- works fine. Any idea why Auto-Complete on clip names fizzles out after I switch to a new name? i.e., for 10 clips that start with "gulch" it works fine. When I change next clip to "hillside" the auto complete stops working.by Paul C - Café LA Log and Transfer glitch? - 14 years agoHi, I'm logging and transferring P2 footage. All works fine, but I seem to lose my logging preferences after doing about 4 clips. In Importing audio prefs, I choose only 2 channels rather than 4, but I have to change the preference for each clip. Doesn't seem right. When giving a clip a name, the auto-complete feature stops working after my first batch of clips. I've been using "reveal master clip" to locate clips in a big project, but the are times when it can't seem to find the clip.
