custom compressor settings gone - 8 years agoHi, I recently reinstalled (clean installed) my FCP 6 when upgrading operating system. Copied everything on Carbon Copy Cloner, everything good and running well. In doing so I lost my old Compressor Custom settings for Youtube. (I do a lot of work where I put my clients vids on Youtube.) No problem I think I’ll use what I remember to be my old settings as seen on this clip - Trouble is theseby howard - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion digital rebellion, pro media tools, video check - 11 years agoDigital rebellion?s, media pro tools, video check? I'm running FCP 6.06. I did a test just to, try it out, on a 2-minute promo. Broadcast filter on extremely conservative and RGB limter on Below 0, Above 100. Checked FCP scopes and did range check Excess Luma and Chroma ? all good. I then sent it through Video Check and just about every frame is over or under. i.e about 3000 frames. No crossfade on a1 (all good), put crossfade at head of track on a2 and the track is pushed out of sync by the length of the crossfade. All 16 bit 48khz no variations on sample rate. Thanks to all for trying to help solve this. Cheers, Howardby howard - Café LA OMF export sync issue - 11 years agoI?ve read so many contradictory articles and posts I?m hoping there is a definitive answer. It?s a 1 hour doco. I?ve done numerous tests exporting OMF with crossfades checked export from 6.06 to Soundtrack Pro and it always pushes the audio out of sync. Is there a way to solve this, other than the obvious ?don?t check the crossfade box? or buy automatic duck. e.g. Michael Kammes? article -by howard - Café LA Re: text - render - excess luma? - 11 years agoOkay, this gets more mysterious, for me at least. I?ve been working on a 3 minute section of a 60 min program. Cut and paste from the program onto new sequence for tweaking color correction before deciding on my final. Everything is under 100, nothing over saturated in the original. All green ticks. Once I?ve pasted into new sequence (a sequence with exactly the same setting), I render this sby howard - Café LA Re: text - render - excess luma? - 11 years agoHi Harry, thanks that works. I must say I?m still inquisitive as to why, when I render, I lose my color correction. Eg if I put text on v2 for half my clip, I can see the scopes return to my settings the instant the playhead goes past the text. Or I can watch the RGB parade pop back to where they were before I corrected once the render is completed, if the playhead is over the text as well as thby howard - Café LA text - render - excess luma? - 11 years agoHi, on FCP 6 color correction. I color correct, everything is under 100 then I add text, everything looks good on the waveform monitor, then I render and it cancels the color correction, (goes from 95 to 105 before my eyes). Yes when I go broadcast safe it fixes it but I?ve seen a number of people report this e.g. ?Rob Weaver Color Correction:Broadcast Safe - Render Bug?? I haven?t found a fby howard - Café LA Re: Jpeg stills in timeline - 11 years agoHi Jon, I'm back to where I started on my second question in my original post. After reading Larry Jordan's articles to begin with I resized to, 1920x1080 square pixels, but the pic is stretched. Funny how I can cut an hour with all the complications involved and not get my head around a couple of jpegs. Thanks for patience on this. Hope I'm not wearing out the friendship.by howard - Café LA Re: Jpeg stills in timeline - 11 years agoThank you Jon. I trashed the offending pics from my work computer but kept them on a seperate pocket drive for future referance. Yep, 4752 X 3456. Could you advise on what I would resize them to? I'm doing motion one shot, the other is simply a still. thanks again.by howard - Café LA Re: Jpeg stills in timeline - 11 years agoOnce again thanks for the speedy replies. I'll go back to FCS and check. It was a lifesaver in this urgent situation. Just quickly, what is the correct size? I've searched the manual but maybe after blowing my brain on that deadline I'm incapable of seeing what's right in front of my eyes. Thanksby howard - Café LA Re: Jpeg stills in timeline - 11 years agoHi thanks for the quick reply. When I converted them to TIFFs FCS still found them to be corrupt, same for other formats, I just tried to think outside the square (no pun intended) and tried AIC. As I said it fixed the corrupt file problem. Go figure. On the jpegs, when I was scouring the forums on FCP continualy crashing, jpegs came up a lot. I was also referring to Larry Jordan's article &qby howard - Café LA Jpeg stills in timeline - 11 years agoHi, I think I?ve read every forum there is on this and yet my brain seems to have collapsed. First, I had a deadline to meet showing a fine cut (on a DVD for preview) for an hour doco. We?ve done it on little or no budget I should mention. Shot in HDV and edited native. (Yes I know, and I?ll never do it again.) I have my sequence set to render in Prores and export as Prores before going to Cby howard - Café LA Re: Dual G5 2.3 vs MBP 2.53 (Late 2008) - 12 years agoHi Barry, you stated "I cut lots of HDV and cut on a Pro Res timeline" Does this mean you edit HDV native into a ProRes timeline, like some people suggest, or you are capturing ProRes? So many opinions flying around on this. Cheers, Howardby howard - Café LA Re: time code - 13 years agoThanks, yep, knew it was simple but do you think I could figure it out, no chance. Thanks again. Howardby howard - Café LA time code - 13 years agoOkay, here?s one of those dumb questions, but I just can?t find the answer. I must have hit a quick key combo inadvertently. Suddenly my time code swapped from TC to a chronological numerical readout. That sounds confusing. In other words e.g. 01:00:24:11 to something like 1561. How do I get back to TC. God knows I?ve tried. Howardby howard - Café LA Re: HDV to SP DVD - Is there a definitive answer? - 13 years agoSorry if I've posted this twice, can't see the reply in the thread. Thanks for the reply Chris. I've noticed that most articles say not to send sequence to Compressor but to export a QT ref first. I'll give your method a go. So far my HDV to SD DVD looks far worse than my old DVcam to DVD. Cheers.by howard - Café LA HDV to SP DVD - Is there a definitive answer? - 13 years agoHDV to SD DVD: I?ve read so many threads and contradictory, and/or confusing articles on this, perhaps this might be the definitive thread so all the other poor smucks who want to send HDV to an SD DVD can stop asking the same question. Or?if there is a definitive article hidden amongst the mass of opinions perhaps you could point me to it. Cheers.by howard - Soundtrack Pro AGP graphic card, iMac, Cinema Desktop? - 14 years agoI?m sorry if this question has been asked before, I?ve searched the web and forums for days and I?m still in the dark. I?m running fcp6.0.4, editing HDV from a Sony Z1 on a new iMac. I?ve yet to take delivery of my 24? Dell 2408WFP. In the fcp manual is states I need an AGP graphics card to run Digital Cinema Desktop to a second monitor. I still haven?t isolated which file is corrupted but by taking one of my external drives out of the equation I was able to move everything and then reconnect the media as you have both suggested. I realised while doing so another job wont open, for the same company, I?m guessing its one of the twenty changes of logo they sent me. Earlier versions of this 30 minute doco go as far as 35% before system crashes. I?ve trashed prefs. But no good. I have already delivered this job so its not urgent but any ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers Howard.by howard - Café LA Re: not capturing - 15 years agoNo I haven't trashed the prefs as yet. I'll do it next time I'm there and see what happens. I thought one of the students may have punched in some whacky command due to the fact that one day it was working fine then the next day it wasn't. Thanks, Howard.by howard - Café LA not capturing - 15 years agoI teach a couple of video production classes during the week so this is a question involving a college G5, FCP 4.5. Students get to use the system when I?m not around and I?m wondering why suddenly I can log clips, I set it to capture, it does all the right things, says clip captured successfully etc. But? it hasn?t been captured. Many thanks. Howard.by howard - Café LA Re: letterbox - 15 years agoNow that sounds like it might be on the money. I'll do it right now and let you know the results. Thanks for all the help. Howard.by howard - Café LA Re: letterbox - 15 years agoThank you again. No, the effects etc. don?t disappear but they are not letterboxed. So all the transition points and effects blow up into non-letterbox format. To solve the problem I?ve been copying the clip back into a bin in the Browser and then bringing it into the Viewer and editing them back on the Timeline. Once done the clip and effect is now letterboxed. Go figure. It works but it?s a paby howard - Café LA Re: letterbox - 15 years agoThank you for the reply. Excuse my ignorance but I should have stated this video was shot in anamorphic, (interviews, animals and scenic footage in the Australian bush). The final product will be played at public environmental forums and DVDs to be played on (I?d assume) widescreen and non-wide formats. Will applying a widescreen matte cut the top and bottom off the footage? The letterbox optionby howard - Café LA |
