Re: Contradiction in file size info - 17 years agoHi Jude, The DV movies were only 3.5 minutes long each. I was trying to get them under 10 MB as that is the limit on my Mac Mail account. (Although I found out the hard way that it really needs to be under 7 MB because the data that goes along with it can take up to 3 MB or so of space.) I used QT Conversion and adjusted the settings for audio and video to downsize the files. In theby shelleyrae - Café LA Contradiction in file size info - 17 years agoI just saved two QT files to my movies folder. Under the size column in the "Movie" browser it says the sizes are 776 KB and 356 KB. When I attached these very same files to an an email it said that the file sizes were 16 MB and 7.7 MB. I deleted the files and started over and the same thing happened. Any idea what's going on?by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Need help outputting avi files from FC - 17 years agoThanks everyone. The webmaster wanted large files because she does compression on her end. I supplied her with both the requested AVI files and also gave her a QT with H.263 codec per your suggestions to see if she could work with that. I thought the H.264 looked much better than the AVIs even though it was more than half the size of the AVI!by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Need help outputting avi files from FC - 17 years agoYes, I dragged and dropped to the DVD. What I'm hearing from you and Derek is that these will not play back properly unless they are first copied to a hard drive. So maybe I continue making the AVIs and drag/dropping them to DVDs -- then hopefully the Webmaster will be able to save them to her hard drive and work with them. I will also make Quicktime files using the H264 or Sorensen 3 codeby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Need help outputting avi files from FC - 17 years agoYes, the webmaster only accepts AVIs >>Seven times 15 minutes!?!? >> I'm only putting one file on each DVD >>As far as codecs go, I'd go with Sorenson 3, H.264 or MPEG-4.>> I'm on Final Cut Pro 5.0.4. Mac OSX 10.4.8. I'm "Export Using Quicktime Conversion" , then choosing AVI the under the video options I have these choices: BMP, Cinepak, DVPal, DV/DVby shelleyrae - Café LA Need help outputting avi files from FC - 17 years agoHi everyone -- Happy New Year! I'm trying to create some high quality avi files to supply to a webmaster. I have seven 1-15 minute vidoes that are currently in FCP. I've tried outputting from FCP using QT conversion. (There is not an AVI option in Compressor). I've tried using no compression but the 10-15 minute videos wind up being around 27-30 GB. I then tried using the DV/DVC Pro codecby shelleyrae - Café LA Lost Verticle Scroll Bar in Browser - 17 years agoHi again, For some reason I have lost my verticle scroll bar in the browser window of Final Cut Pro. The horizontal bar is still there but the vertical scroll bar is missing. I've tried closing the project and reopening hoping it would reappear-- but no luck. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks.by shelleyrae - Café LA Know of any good stock footage sources? - 17 years agoHi Everyone, I'm working on a 10 minute meeting video that will be shown to a group of 200 people. This video has a very short shelf live -- it's only being shown in a series of four-five meetings to groups from 50-200 people. I'm looking for some inexpensive stock footage to use as broll. I tried all the methods and they worked just fine. The big problem was that I was putting the color matt on top of the clip not below. The easiest solution was to use the color matt on the bottom layer, then crop. I was also able to add type to the colored border and it looks sweet. >That doesn't make sense. You've probably using the wrong filter. All that the Wideby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: How to reposition timeline marker - 17 years agoThanks guys, I messed with repo method using Shift-` - Pretty useless since I needed to move the markers backward. Also tried +/- timecode but found it quicker just to copy the info from the old marker, delete the old marker and paste the info into the new marker. Hopefully, subsequent versions of FCP will improve upon this. It would be nice to be able to click and drag. Shelley Raeby shelleyrae - Café LA Create colored letter box - 17 years agoI'm trying to create a letterbox effect on a 4:3 clip. When I use the letter box filter it compresses the image making all my people look fat. So I then tried the cropping tool to get the effect. I repositioned the image (so as not to cut of tops of heads), then cropped top and bottom. This works fine but now I want to change the black border to a different color. I tried appling a color matby shelleyrae - Café LA How to reposition timeline marker - 17 years agoI'm trying to reposition some of my timeline markers that I created to help me remind me where to put some title graphics. I started moving clips around and the markers are now not where I want them. I have tried the short cut in the marker menu which says to use the shift and ' key but still can't move them. Does any one know another way to reposition timeline markers? Thanks,by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Batch Capture - 17 years ago<<So I know which clips i've used or not I drag the Log Note column over next to the name column. I then write "not used" in the Log Note column across from any clip I don't use.>> Yes, that works pretty well and is the is the method I'm currently using. I just tried Mike Watson's Command F trick -- VERY cool. Thanks, Derek, for clarifying the logging process. Timeby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Action Footage Strobing Too Much - 17 years agoOh Geez... Under the RT menu the Playback Video Quality was set to Low and Playback Frame Rate was set to Half. I changed both to Dynamic and just like magic-- the strobing is gone. No wonder the flicker filter didn't do anything. I feel like a big dummy, but am so glad it was something simple this time. Thanks again for all your responses.by shelleyrae - Café LA Action Footage Strobing Too Much - 17 years ago(I think I get the prize for the most posts in one week) I'm working on a project with a lot of action footage. Subjects are moving, lots of camera movement and zooms. The footage strobes on playback but it doesn't look like that on the tape. I know to expect a certain amount of that with digital footage but there must be some way to improve? Is there anything I can do to smooth it ouby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: What does this mean? Figured it Out - 17 years ago<<I think you're probably talking about the vertical lines that only appear on the lower half of the scrubber bar. These are markings that indicate every 5 minutes in the clip or timeline. >> Yep. They appear to be timing markers. Yes, I thought maybe it was just the first or last clip so I tried selecting just a few at a time and still got the message. Then I tried one by one and again got the same message. I will try changing the TC as you suggested. So far I've been getting away with "Capture Now" but I'm trying to break myself of this habit since I've learned that it's not the best method - especially when you need to go back and reload. Just now, I did a successful batch capture on my first tape but the second tape I logged I got a message saying there is not enough post or preroll. I have scoured the manuals but can't find an answer. Surely someone must know the answer to this? What does it mean when there are verticle lines in the scrubber bar? It's three hours long but for managability, I have broken it up into nine segments. I will have nine different audio files that I will be working on individually. Well that's probably the case, because the Sony deck which I usually have access to has always worked fine on both computers. Currently, I'm sharing the Sony with a friend.
