Re: Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agoNo offense taken, Wayne. Actually I did find a few tutorials on YouTube that showed how you can change all the parameters and just from watching a few of those, it gave me an idea of what you can do. I realize there is no manual that could ever possibly show you all the effects you can get. I just needed to see a few examples on how to work with them. Thanks, Shelleyby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agoI understand it's easy to drag and drop but after looking at the Sapphire demo reel there is a lot of effects that aren't not at all "intuitive" to me. I'm just not at that skill level yet. I did find some tutorials on YouTube and more are promised in the future. So looking at a few of those gives me an idea of how to use them for my current project.by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agoThanks. I will check those out. I did find out that GenArts who makes Sapphire is coming out with a free DVD tutorial at the end of April - which is when my trial period is overby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Two questions about quality - 15 years agoRegarding the converting VOBs vs. transferring to DV tape: I would be mastering to DVD so from what I gather here, my best bet is either output a 8bit uncompressed or ProRes QT file, right? Regarding Itunes: I never liked working in Itunes, I always have a hard time locating my audio file once I import it. Just a document that shows what you can achieve with each effect. This is the same problem I had with another plug in package I bought. I only know how to use a few of the many, many filters it shipped with. The Sapphire transitions were easy to use - just drag and drop on the edit pby shelleyrae - Café LA Two questions about quality - 15 years ago1. I'm in a situation where I only have DVDs to work with as my source material. Am I better off transferring the DVD to mini DV and capturing the tape, or am I better off extracting the VOB file using MPEG streamclip and exporting an uncompressed QT file? Is there any loss of quality either way from the original DVD? 2. But maybe after getting seduced by the free three week trial I may feel differently. I wish you could just buy the exact ones you want instead of the whole box set.by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agoI checked out the thread and went to the demo site. That's exactly what I was after. Now my question is, are they easy to use? I bought Film Effects package a while back and it didn't have any instructions on how to use all the filters. A lot of them are drag and drop and those I use a lot but there are so many other filters that I have no clue what to do with. So I would like to kby shelleyrae - Café LA Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agoHi Everyone - Does anyone know what plugs in are used for all those flashy transitions they use on the "E" and "Oprah" shows? There's a great blooming flash that I see a lot and also a newer sparkly star like transition effect. Do you think these are all custom transitions or are they part of a plug in package? Thanks, Shelleyby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Smoothing dissolves between stills - 15 years agoHi, I just tried the G-Fast deinterlace filter and applied that. That seemed to work. Thanks, Shelleyby shelleyrae - Café LA Smoothing dissolves between stills - 15 years agoHello There Ladies and Gentlemen -- I'm creating a slide show in FC2 using stills. I'm just doing simple slow dissolves between the stills. Some of the dissolve transitions have an unwanted slight "snapping effect" at the end of the dissolve. It's like the incoming still moves down slightly after the dissolve. What can I do to make the dissolve transition smoother? I shot a little test footage and brought it into FC using my NTSC DV sequence settings by dragging the files from the disc to designated movie capture folder on my hard drive. The project is a 3-5 minute video for a website and I will also be creating a promotional DVD for distribution. What is different about editing in HD rather than standard def? Since the media is recorded to a card how do I capture the footage? Do I just drag the file to a capture folder or do I have to usby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoThe card I replaced is what shipped with my Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHZ Dual-Core Intel Xeon The new card is the ATI Radeon HD 3870 - 512 VRAMby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoWhat about Motion? That's pretty graphics intensive. One of the reasons I upgraded to the new card was because I'm starting to do more motion graphics work and getting into working with several layers and real time playback was lagging. I thought upgrading to this recommended graphics card would speed up playback, but I really haven't noticed much difference in performance.by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoJust for the record... You guys were right about the flat screen not being a good monitoring solution. I had all kinds of playback problems monitoring from the flat screen. So it's back in the box ready to go back to the store. I hooked up the old monitor again and everything is playing back just fine. Somehow it doesn't seem so big and ugly anymore. Another question on this topicby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoI always check my DVDs on three TV different sets as well as another computer before sending out. If I don't notice anything weird then it should be fine, right?by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoCurrently I am only working in the DV format and do mostly internet marketing videos as well as DVD training videos. Does the interlacing problem carry over to DVDs that will be played back on TVs rather than computers? Or do I just need to be wary of videos that will air? I was using a very old broadcast monitor which was not color accurate nor did it allow me to view anything in 16:9. Plby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoUnderstood. That said, can you recommend some brands of broadcast monitors that are a good value? I want to look into the costs and decide whether to keep the flat screen or return it and replace it with a good broadcast monitor. Maybe I should return the flat screen and get a true broadcast monitor. But then if a lot of my work is being displayed on the computer, I still have the problem of color correction looking one way on the broadcast monitor but too washed out when played back in a computer. What is the solution for that? And can you reby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoHi Jeff, Do you mean it's not good solution because of inaccurate color? Most of my work is for the internet so with the old broadcast monitor when I color corrected to that monitor the colors were always washed out when played back on a computer. I know I'm supposed to use a true broadcast monitor for color correcting but since most of my work is viewed on a computer I thought I'd try uby shelleyrae - Café LA Configuring for two flat screen monitors - 15 years agoHi, I'm trying to hook up a second flat screen monitor so that monitor #1 will be my workspace only and monitor #2 will show me full screen playback of my timeline as well as deck playback. But after seeing this response, I took another look at the FC Bad TV filter and realized I can make adjustments in the filters tab to get the effect I was after. Nice. Thanks.by shelleyrae - Café LA "Scan Lines" filter - 15 years agoIs there a filter in FC effects that creates that scan line look that's so popular right now. You see it a lot on CNN and documentaries. I saw a rather complicated tutorial on how to create the effect in Photoshop but seems like there would be a filter for that effect since it's so over used. Is there any way to distinguish 3rd party fonts from the system fonts - like the file extension? If not, will that extensis font manager fix any corrupt fonts that have already been loaded? I just go to the font folder and drag the 3rd party ones to the trash and empty? That's all I have to do to remove them? There are no other residual files associated with them hiding in other folders on my system? I thought all LiveType textures were available in Motion but they are not. I tried to export the Livetype texture as a QT movie so I could work with it in Motion but it won't let me export it.
