Re: Capturing from an SD card - 15 years agoHi Strypes, My friend who has the Sanyo Xacti HD2 has been using IMovie and Movie Studio (Windows) with these MP4 files without having to convert them. He wanted to upgrade his editing system to FC Express and now it seems that we have to convert the MPG4s to QT before working with them. His line of work requires that he turn 10 minute movies around for the internet in less than an hour.by shelleyrae - Café LA Capturing from an SD card - 15 years agoI have footage that has been recorded Sanyo Xacti HD2. They are MP4 files on a SD card. I'm trying to teach someone Final Cut Express using these files, but when we import these MP4 files into FC Express, they need to be rendered. Is there any way to capture them as QT movies and not have to go through the rendering process? He has been using Imovie up until now and is able to bring the MP4by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Now you see it -- Now you don't - 15 years agoYes, I rendered it once it was in the timeline. The weird thing like I mentioned is that when it was loaded it in the viewer I could see everything perfectly but the external monitor did not reflect was was in the viewer. The external monitor displayed all layers EXCEPT the Light Wall. Then once I added the Motion file to the timeline, neither the canvas nor external monitor showed the Light Wby shelleyrae - Motion Capturing from a card - 15 years agoWhen you have footage that has been recorded to a card, what is the correct method of capturing? Do you still use the capture window, or just drag and drop the files in a designated media folder?by shelleyrae - Motion Now you see it -- Now you don't - 15 years agoI'm working on a simple 3-layer composite in Motion. I have used the "Light Wall 01" (in Library-Content-Misc) as the background layer, I put "Mobile" on top of the Light Wall background and then type on top of that. It plays fine and looks beautiful in the Motion Application. When I bring it over to Final Cut and load it in the viewer, it looks perfect in the view window bby shelleyrae - Motion Re: Transitional Replicators in Motion - 15 years agoThanks, Mark. I'll try that. But before I spend too much time fumbling around, I have a few more questions: I'm creating a music montage about 3 minutes long. If I choose to use these "replicator transitions," I'm wondering what the best work flow is. Do I first create a rough edit in the FC time line with the video tracks stacked and overlapping and then send to Motion to appby shelleyrae - Motion Transitional Replicators in Motion - 15 years agoHi, I'm experimenting with the transitional replicators in Motion and some thing's not quite right. For example, I'm currently working with "Dots out Right" and it just plays back black and white. I'm expecting to see my out going video where the black is and incoming video through the white pattern. The effect just plays back solid black and white -- no video shows through the moby shelleyrae - Motion Re: Can't change background color in LiveType - 15 years agoThanks Andy, Everything seems to be working smoothly now. I think the initial removal of the single LiveType plist actually worked and then when it seemed like it wasn't working again, it was just that the color wheel window was hidden. Thanks for the info about what those other plists are for. I have and do run Mac Janitor, but don't have Onyx or Cache Cleaner. I'll check those out.by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Can't change background color in LiveType - 15 years agoI use Motion now for most titling but there are some things I like about LiveType that either I can't find in Motion or don't know how to find it yet. Supposedly all the textures, behaviors, templates and Livefonts are accessible from Motion. Can someone please verify if this is ture As it turns out, my problem of not being able to change the color had to do with the fact that the color wheeby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Can't change background color in LiveType - 15 years agoAndy, Of course I know about trashing the four Final Cut preference files when things go whacky, and I do have Final Cut Rescue, but I was talking about the plist specific to LiveType in HD - Library - Preference - com.apple.LiveType. (There was also another plist in that area com.apple.RegFinalCutStudio.plist which I did not touch) When I trashed the single com.apple.LiveType.plist, it fby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Can't change background color in LiveType - 15 years agoI deleted the LiveType plist in preferences, restarted my computer and now it works. There are plists for Motion, Soundtrack and LiveType. How come nobody ever talks about deleting preferences for those particular apps when they start acting whacky? I just did this as an experiment and it worked. Is this a big no no or am I on to something?by shelleyrae - Café LA Can't change background color in LiveType - 15 years agoHi, Usually I work with a transparent background in LiveType but today I tried to change it to solid black. I went into Project Properties to change it and it the color chip was yellow. I turned up the opacity to see the background, then clicked on the color chip thinking I would get the color wheel to give me the option to change the color but nothing happens when I click on the yellow chipby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Repairing permission in safe boot - 15 years agoThank you all for the input. It sounds like the jury is still out on the need for preventative maintenance. Since I do shut down every night, I think I'll run Mac Janitor a few times a month and Disc Warrior every six months or so. Sounds like it won't hurt anything. And I can feel like I'm taking care of my system, even if it's just psychological. Then I'll have a nice sense of secuby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Repairing permission in safe boot - 15 years agoThanks for helping me understand. I have had "repair permissions" fix weird problems sometimes and then again sometimes not. Now the question becomes, from a "preventative maintenance" perspective, is repairing permissions even useful? I have "Disc Warrior" and have heard that running that once a month is recommended. I also have Mac Janitor. When I was at the Apple Store the other day, the tech said NOT to repair permissions in Safe Boot because Disc Utility doesn't affect anything while in Safe Boot. My gut tells me to follow Larry's advice and that the Apple Store tech person is mistaken, but caby shelleyrae - Café LA Travel Matte in Motion - 15 years agoI'm trying to create a simple title that has the words "Fire Fighters" filled with the "camp fire" particle movie from the Motion Library. When I select "texture" I see the little well to put the image I want to fiby shelleyrae - Motion Playback in Motion - 15 years agoI'm starting to get into more complex motion graphics. I upgraded my RAM from 2 to 6 gigs but haven't noticed a difference in real time playback in Motion. Shouldn't I be able to see the actual timing of my effects sequence playback in Motion? The additional 4 gigs of RAM has been installed properly and shows up in the system profiler. I was able to successfully download the files using Safari and it is FIXED! Thank you. Thank You. I looked under extras and there were a few other things but no Boris package. So you got the same thing that I did when clicking on that link. Just a bunch of computer language and then the lockup. I really don't think it's QT7.4 related because Boris was not showing even before I updated to QT7.4 or did the re-install. Thanks for cheby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoYes I looked on my FSC install CD. They are not there either. I found a forum that addresses this problem. Apparently it's related to QT 7.4 Looks like the QuickTime 7.4 update broke a number of things including the Boris plug-ins. Basically they have lost their bundle flags so are not being recognized by Final Cut Express (or Pro). I think the problem with the first configuration is that riser A had two 512s of Mac Memory and 2- 2gigs of OWC - hence mixing ram manufacturers. Configuration 6C keep them together by manufacturer. I successfully re-installed FC. I saved a copy of all the third party plug ins and copied them to the Hard drive - Library - Application Support - Final Cut Support - Plugins - I also see that the 3D text bundle that comes with Final Cut is there in the Plugins folder. So I'm in the processing of installing now. I thought there would be a way to just install FC but I had to install the entire FCS2 including all the content for Motion, Soundtrack and LiveType.
