Using 24p correctly - 13 years agoI have been using the Canon 7D and progressive footage this past year, I have had mixed emotions about it. I have not used 24p or any flavor of progressive footage (I am from the US, BTW, and have been using HDV 1080i60 for the past 6 years). I am still learning, and that's why I'm posting now. My opinion of the footage from the 7D is that it looks awesome on the computer/internet, it looks awby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Sharing HDV QT files with someone who doesn't have FCP - 13 years agoYup...so I only need to buy a new proc amp, as well as a capture card for my MacBook Pro (do they make those?). Any recommendations? Saving money is kinda expensive!by CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Sharing HDV QT files with someone who doesn't have FCP - 13 years agoI am shooting the projected image...it's kind of a complicated setup (to explain, that is...plus I believe it's patented). Shoot...I just realized that we normally do this through a proc amp and do simple color corrections live (to save the customer money, as opposed to bringing all the footage in and color correcting in post). Hmmm...this process may not work unless you know of a procby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Sharing HDV QT files with someone who doesn't have FCP - 13 years agoThe only concern then is file size, since there are about a hundred reels. I can leave this decision up to the customer, though. Thanks! Caseyby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Sharing HDV QT files with someone who doesn't have FCP - 13 years agoOh, well...for one thing, we were originally going to do this in standard definition 4:3, and later decided since I was shooting the film with the Sony Z1U anyways, to simply record it to HDV. Then we thought that I could capture the video for him to a hard drive, since he doesn't have an HDV deck (and record it simultaneously to tape and hard drive). That's pretty much it We're trby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Sharing HDV QT files with someone who doesn't have FCP - 13 years agoActually, he's not doing graphics for it...I am doing a 8mm film transfer for him and he is planning on just re-sequencing it to chronological order and possibly making simple titles. He doesn't have FCP, but is familiar with AfterEffects and says he can do the editing he wants to do in that.by CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Capturing live HDV video - 13 years agoHDV capture will not work with non-controllable (thru firewire, as far as I know). I don't have any capture card in my Mac, other than the built-in firewire, so I can't do component. Thanks! Caseyby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Capturing live HDV video - 13 years agoThe Z1U has component and firewire outputs for HDV video. I did recently find out on another board that if you start recording on a tape, then you can capture the footage through the firewire...I guess since it's creating timecode, FCP has something to read and captures nicely (as long as the tape is rolling). Not the perfect scenario, but for what I'm doing, it will work fine. Thanks! Caby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Capturing live HDV video - 13 years agoIs there a way to capture live HDV video from my Sony Z1U into FCP? For some reason I thought I could and had done it before, but I decided to test it now, and realized that it doesn't work. Thanks! Casey Petersenby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Sharing HDV QT files with someone who doesn't have FCP - 13 years agoHere's what I'm doing: I am recording HDV video using my Sony Z1U camcorder, and am going to be capturing it in Final Cut as HDV, and then putting the files on a hard drive for someone else to edit, who is going to be doing some work with it in After Effects on his Mac, but he doesn't have FCP. I sent a test file over to him, and he wasn't able to get any video, but the audio worked, which meby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Using overlays created in Photoshop - 13 years agoOr else create an alpha channel and save it as a Targa.by CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Exporting to MPEG2 - 13 years agoI just want an MPG file with the audio attached. I tried doing it on the PC with TMPGENC and muxing the m2v and the ac3 together. It plays fine on the PC, but on the Mac there's no sound. Caseyby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Exporting to MPEG2 - 13 years agoIs there a way to export from FCP to an MPEG2 file...not like Compressor does the .m2v and .ac3 files. I would like 1 file...if I can't do it in FCP, is there a program that will mux them together? Thanks! Caseyby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Is it possible to export a FCP7 project or sequence into FCP6? - 13 years agoYeah...but only when I use HDV. It seems to work fine with my Canon 7D footage when I bring it in as XDCAM or ProRes. Fortunately I don't need to do it very often. I thought I might need it for a 7D project I'm doing in XDCAM, which has a lot of little clips, but as I discovered (just now) SmoothCam works fine with my XDCAM files. We're trying to find a way to phase out our HDV cameras and reby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Is it possible to export a FCP7 project or sequence into FCP6? - 13 years agoSweet!!!!by CaseyPetersen - Café LA Is it possible to export a FCP7 project or sequence into FCP6? - 13 years agoIs it possible to export a FCP7 project or sequence into FCP6? If so, how? Thanks! Caseyby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Doing noise reduction on one channel = delay?!! - 13 years agoI have an AIFF audio file...one channel is a lav. mic and the other channel is a shotgun mic. There's a bit of room noise, so I thought I'd EQ the shotgun mic on the right channel. I brought it into STP 3, and did the noise reduction on the right channel (sampled on right channel, and applied to right channel only). The end result is that there is a horrible echo...one channel is now 3 framesby CaseyPetersen - Soundtrack Pro Pasting Speed Attributes in FCP7 - 13 years agoI have a bunch of clips that I want to change the speed to 75%. In FCP 6, I would change the speed of the first clip, then copy and paste the attributes to the other clips. Now that I have 7 and try to do the same thing, I am able to paste the speed attributes, but the clip durations aren't changing, they're staying the same. The original 6 second clip turns to 8 seconds at 75%, but when I tryby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Print to Video problems - 13 years agoSimply put, I have a HDV 1080i60 project that was recorded on a Sony Z1U, captured HDV, edited, and I'm exporting back to the same Sony Z1U camera. I exported the project to a self-contained QuickTime as well. I am using a MacBook Pro 17" (the first generation one), and I recently updated to Snow Leopard and Final Cut Studio 3. I'm trying to Print to Video, and it works for about 30 secby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Re: Blu-Ray. Anyone using it regularly? - 13 years agoYou can customize the menu background in Toast...but you don't have control over the position or size of the buttons. If you can design your way around the buttons, you can make it look pretty good. Caseyby CaseyPetersen - Café LA Automatic spacing between clips - 13 years agoIs there a way to drop a bunch of clips on the timeline and automatically have a 2 second gap between each of them? Is this possible after they're on the timeline? What I do is put all the clips down and use my tool to select all clips to the right and go past each one and enter "200". Thanks! I'll have to give this a shot tomorrow (hopefully).by CaseyPetersen - DVD Studio Pro "Last menu" command - 13 years agoHi everyone! There was a feature back in DVDit Pro 2.5 that I really liked, but have not seen in anything since then. It was a little thing that they called "Last Menu". At the end of a clip, or any time you pushed the menu button, there was an option to go to any specific menu, or the last menu...the last menu used...so if you were watching a DVD, and hit Chapters from your main menby CaseyPetersen - DVD Studio Pro Re: Matching 7D to Sony Z1U footage - 13 years agoWe weren't planning on mixing them originally, but we had a camera problem (operator, more like!) and we need to use the footage to cover that.by CaseyPetersen - Café LA |
