(Sorry if this isn't directly related to this specific issue.) Unless I have lost my mind, I thought it was pretty clear that you shouldn't be upgrading your OS when using an older version of FCP. So, FCP 7 should work with Snow Leopard, but FCP 6 may not be as stable/robust and should be avoided (but is okay with Leopard). "Plain old" PCI graphics preceded AGP... Now, some MacBooks had integrated graphics that don't work as well with FCP, but that's another thing... A good thing to do would be to read pages 226 to 229 in the FCP 6 User Manual. The required A/V settings are mentioned for "Cinema Desktop Preview --- Main" (which is what you want with only one monitor). A good troubleshooting guide is presented on page 229. However, the apps are all Universal, meaning they contain both Intel and PowerPC code. If this is supposed to be an Intel-only release, why include Universal versions of the apps? The documentation comes in HTML only. I just did an install this afternoon on my test machine. The main install with all content took about 50 GB of disk space (if I remember correctly), with an additional 5 to 7 GB for the Documentation and Extras folders from the main install disc. The entire process took about 1 hour and 40 minutes (installing from the 7 DVDs). And, FYI, logging into a new (temporary) user account ("Guest" is the perfect choice for this in OS X 10.5.x) is one of the best ways to start troubleshooting problems, not just for FCP (or other FCS apps). Let me explain... I was brought in very quickly to add masks over the faces of various people, etc., in an hour-long show, and to add some lower thirds. The piece was cut in FCP 6 and I received a QT movie (DVCPro HD 1080i60 1280 x 1080). Audio was sent to the sound mixer/masterer separately. So, I wasn't privy to anyby D-Mac - Café LA Re: Sony PMW-EX1 Camera - 16 years agoBrian, The Matrox MXO would be a good choice, and a bit cheaper than other "outboard" solutions from AJA and Blackmagic. The Decklink Multibridge looks like a nice higher-end model (as it can handle all formats via a connection to a PCIe "bridge" card). With a new computer, you'd just need to upgrade that portion of the setup. I, myself, don't have an EX-1... The info I provide may help to at least clarify things a bit, if not answer your question... Unless I am grossly mistaken, you are trying to use the camera as a digital to analog converter, which would allow you to use the camera toby D-Mac - Café LA Re: Sony PMW-EX1 Camera - 16 years agoIf you decide to get this camera, or any tapeless camera, you should also get a tape back-up drive for keeping footage "masters" and archives of footage and edited pieces. This adds about $3K to the cost of the camera itself (for a drive unit that connects to a workstation, rather than a network accessible unit, which would cost about double this amount, or more).
