Re: Rejoining audio to clips - 15 years agoBeats the heck out of copying and pasting attributes. Many thanks for excellent and speedy advice. Paulby Paul C - Café LA Re: Rejoining audio to clips - 15 years agoWorks great. The only hitch I see is that I lose any filters etc. on my timeline clip when I overwrite it. Solution would be to copy timeline clip, overwrite with the audio, then paste attributes on the new version?by Paul C - Café LA Rejoining audio to clips - 15 years agoHi there. I'm hoping there's a fairly painless way to fix this. I didn't think I'd need the audio for many of the clips in my timeline, so I left off the audio track when dragging clips to the timeline. Now I'd like to have the audio for some of these clips. Dumb move. Is there a quick way with "match frame" or something I don't know about to somehow restore the audio to the clipby Paul C - Café LA Re: Problem with .avi file - 16 years agoSuccess! The squared5 did it just fine. Thanks again. What a great resource. PCby Paul C - Café LA Re: Problem with .avi file - 16 years agoI now have the recommended DivX Doctor as well. It hangs up when I try to convert my avi file. Just for a test, I tried to convert one of the client's previous avis, and it worked. Using VLC, the avi info tells me the troubled avi is WMV3. The former avi that works OK is Cvid. (Never heard of that.) Maybe this WMV3 is too ancient. The avi is from 2005 I think. I'll try the Creatorslabsby Paul C - Café LA Re: Problem with .avi file - 16 years agoI downloaded the 3ivxx converter but haven't had any luck initially. I export the avi from FCP using the 3ixx preset, just like I would Flip4Mac or something, but the results I get are the same as the original file. I can read the file though, using the VLC player. More to come ...by Paul C - Café LA Problem with .avi file - 16 years agoHello, Client supplied me with a 3D animation in the form of an .avi file. It plays fine on my PC with Windows Media Player, but on my Mac it's just a bunch of pixel chaos; same thing in Quicktime and FCP. I've had other files like this from client before and they played OK. Any ideas on how I can somehow convert this thing so it plays OK on my Mac. (One avi is 3 MB and 800 x 600.) Thankby Paul C - Café LA Re: Can't hear audio in Log and Transfer for P2 - 16 years agoI rebooted FCP and now I've got the audio.by Paul C - Café LA Can't hear audio in Log and Transfer for P2 - 16 years agoI'm logging and transferring P2 footage from an external hard drive. The only hitch is that I can't hear the audio from the clips in the Preview window. The meter shows the audio is there but I can't hear it. (All the correct files and folders are mounted.) When I transfer the clip to FCP, the audio is there so no problem at the final end. It's only when I'm previewing that I can't hear it. Tiby Paul C - Café LA Re: Major subclip problem - 16 years agoThanks, I'll try that. The other thing that is kind of confusing is that under Item Properties, some of these clips are called Clips, and some are Sublcips, and they should all be subclips. Then they're all stored in a temporary folder, and yet the original only seems to be as long as the first subclip. I guess by copying, I would get self-contained clips, with the name I give them, in tby Paul C - Café LA Major subclip problem - 16 years agoHi, I've captured some miniDV, all regular presets etc. Tape was shot elsewhere on an HVX200 and has lots of timecode breaks (I think it might not be 29.97 fps.) I used "Capture Now" for segments up to a few minutes long, then make subclips, and use Media Manager to delete unused portions of the main clip. Never had a problem before. Today, about 1/4 of my subclips are total pixelby Paul C - Café LA Re: Compressor doesn't seem to be stopping! - 16 years agoThanks for the reset tip, Scott E.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Compressor doesn't seem to be stopping! - 16 years agoThe same thing happened to me a few days ago. I had to force quit Compressor, then tried it again and it seemed OK. But then my Batch Monitor wouldn't show any activity until the processing was done. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I thought the glitches might have something to do with upgrading to FCP 6.02, and the Final Cut Studio upgrades, which I did.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Premier files to FCP - 16 years agoI output S-video from PC into my miniDV deck, which is connected to my G5. Then I "capture now" in FCP using non-controllable device.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Premier files to FCP - 16 years agoI was in the same boat to a certain extent. When I've needed old projects from the Premiere PC, I play it in the Premiere timeline and recapture it in FCP. I can still revise the old Premiere project in FCP, but after a certain point it gets a bit ridiculous and you might as well start from scratch. I've also burned the Premiere projects to a DVD, then recaptured them in FCP by playing them onby Paul C - Café LA Re: Clueless Question on HD played on Standard TV - 16 years ago"Generally, an HD sized frame will pillarbox on a standard DVD. That is black bars at the top and bottom." Don't you mean "letterbox?" I thought pillarboxes were 2 vertical bars at the side of the frame, as putting 4:3 footage into a 16:9 project.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Best output setting question - 16 years agoI did some experimenting and ended up using Compressor with H.264 at 720x480, 29.97 fps, limited to 1600 kbps and automatic key frames. I'm very impressed with the result. Using Quicktime conversion gave it a washed out look, although I suppose you could adjust for that. My file size is 150 MB, and web ftp guy said to keep it under 300 MB, so I'm doiing fine. Only thing was it took about 90by Paul C - Café LA Best output setting question - 16 years agoHi, I'm looking for a bit of advice on the best settings to output a QT file. I have an 8-minute program for a client's website. I am to send it to their web guys via an ftp site, so I think I'd want to keep the file to 3-500 MB for a reasonable upload time. My program timeline is 720 x 480 DV, 29.97 fps with plenty of pans and graphics etc. Web guy will take QT file and convert it to Flaby Paul C - Café LA Re: Video flickers at top of viewer - 16 years agoIt's strange -- I've reopened the project and now the flicker seems to go away if I scale up to as little as 103%. Earlier today the scaling up wasn't making any difference. The funny thing is this is all footage captured from the same shoot, same camera etc. Strange why some clips have the flicker and others don't, but then putting on a filter like blur or a slo-mo causes the flicker. I'vby Paul C - Café LA Re: Video flickers at top of viewer - 16 years agoYes, I exported a WMV test file with Flip4Mac and you can still see it. And I checked all the render boxes to make it sure it's all full bore.by Paul C - Café LA Video flickers at top of viewer - 16 years agoHello, I've got a 4:3 project in DV timeline, output will be mainly for the web. On a few of my clips, you can see the video slightly flickering at the top of the viewer window. (Not on the broadcast monitor) If this was for VHS it would be Ok because the flicker is at the very top edge and out past the viewable area of the screen. But for web or DVD you can see the whole frame, so it shows.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Best filter for audio issue - 16 years agoST Pro it is. Thanks for the advice. Paulby Paul C - Café LA Best filter for audio issue - 16 years agoHi, I've been given DV interview footage but the audio level is way down. I used FCP gain filter to bump up the volume, voice pop filter to take out any resultant pops, and I still have a kind of low-grade "white noise" sound in the background, probably from having to increase the gain so much. Aside from going into Soundtrack Pro and trying to isolate and remove the offensive bacby Paul C - Café LA Re: What's the issue with dissolves and FCP - 16 years agoAre you familiar with the need for sufficient in and out points on your clips? A forum search should turn up a fair bit of material on that one. good luck ...by Paul C - Café LA Leapfrogging clips on tracks - 16 years agoHi, I know you can move a clip up or down to a higher or lower track by hitting option/arrow with the clip selected. This only works if there's no other clip blocking the way. Is there a shortcut way to leapfrog your clip over another clip and on to a higher or lower track, or do you have to manually grab it in the timeline and shift it yourself. thanks... Paulby Paul C - Café LA Re: pre-made loop mixes - 16 years agoNever heard of Smartsound but I'll check it out. I'm surprised no one has come up with "recipes" or tip sheets to achieve certain sounds using loop combinations, like "if you want a light industrial underscore or bed try mixing the World Drum 2 with blah blah blah with blah blah blah." I guess I'm looking to save myself time expermenting. Thanks, Paulby Paul C - Soundtrack Pro Re: Recording from cassette deck - 16 years agoI'm just looking to import the analogue tunes, save them as Mp3s or AIFFs, and store them on a CD for a client. I'm sure I'm just a setting away -- it's just that in STP I hit Record and nothing happens, nothing seems to be coming in, unlike when I hit Capture Now in FCP. Thanks -- I'll keep at it. Paulby Paul C - Soundtrack Pro Recording from cassette deck - 16 years agoHi, I have a pro-level cassette deck hooked up to my miniDV deck, which has firewire out to my G5. I want to record cassette stuff in Soundtrack Pro to digitize it. I can't seem to find a way in Soundtrack pro to record this audio coming in from the cassette deck via the miniDV deck. Is this doable, and what setting should I use? (Currently I capture the audio in FCP using non-controllabby Paul C - Soundtrack Pro |
