Re: Some transitions won't render - 16 years agoThanks for the tip. Any idea about whether my effects favourites are gone forever, or just hidden in the bowels somewhere, waiting to be reinstalled? Paulby Paul C - Café LA Re: Some transitions won't render - 16 years agoThat makes sense. It looks like the Nattress transitions don't work, although their website says they should be ok with FCP 6. To uninstall these plugins, do I just nuke them from the library?by Paul C - Café LA Some transitions won't render - 16 years agoIf anyone knows what might be causing this ... I switched to FCP 6 and some of my transitions don't seem to want to render. Orange bar above and the transition -- just some, not all -- won't render. Never saw this happen in previous version. Plenty of in and out point space, following all the transition rules. Also, re: conversion to FCP 6, are my Favourite transitions and effects hidden somewby Paul C - Café LA pre-made loop mixes - 16 years agoAre there such things as a "recipe" or pre-made loop mixes available for Soundtrack Pro? Something you could import and the right loops would magically jump into place. Or even a list of "try this loop and this loop with this loop for this sound ..." I'm thinking of something for corporate video as an underscore. Thanks, Paulby Paul C - Soundtrack Pro Re: Compressor vs QT Conversion? - 16 years agoMany thanks -- I think I've got this figured out. I did use Compressor exactly for the batch capabilities -- and Shane R. says Compressor does a better job than QT conversion. I didnt make my DV sequence 16:9 because I've got 4:3 footage going in as well, and I wanted to avoid overuse of the pillarbox. I figure I can always put a widescreen filter on the 4:3 footage if portions need to blendby Paul C - Café LA Re: Compressor vs QT Conversion? - 16 years agoHi -- pardon some slight confusion here. Maybe I shouldn't have said I left the HD clips anamorphic. When I convert the HD to SD, in the settings I select 16:9 rather than 4:3. When I import the converted clips into the DV timeline, they come in as letterboxed, as I would expect. If I convert them and select 4:3 aspect ratio, they come into DV timeline squished. The only place it says anamorpby Paul C - Café LA Compressor vs QT Conversion? - 16 years agoI've got dozens of P2 clips in DVC Pro HD (720 60p) that I am converting to DV, in order to work with other DV footage. (program is for the web and maybe in-house DVD.) I'm leaving the HD clips as anamorphic so they're letterboxed in the DV timeline. When converting the HD clips, is there a noteable difference in quality between Compressor and using Quicktime Conversion? I've done a few testsby Paul C - Café LA FPC clips in Compressor - 16 years agoIf someone could set me straight here ... Using Compressor to convert some clips that are in FPC bins, can I dump those clips into a Compressor batch from the FPC bin, or will compressor only accept the actual media files from my hard drive scratch disc? I have the clips organized in my bins, but the hard drive just has one big Capture folder and I don't want to convert all those clips. Sortiby Paul C - Café LA Re: Down-converting DVCProHD to regular DV - 16 years agoI've made some progress in the meantime. Two ways seem to work, but not perfect. One is to copy the HD clip in Media Manager and set to recompress, with DV NTSC option, and I get a new clip at 4:3 as desired. The only hitch is that the HD is 60 fps and Media Manager won't allow it to be changed to 30 fps. (29.97). So when I put the new clip in the 30 fps timeline, it requires rendering. Thby Paul C - Café LA Down-converting DVCProHD to regular DV - 16 years agoHi, I have DVCProHD footage shot on an HVX200, dumped onto my Mac (no Studio 2 upgrade) via a Firestore drive. It's 720p 60p. (I shot it with 4:3 in mind.) I also have DV footage shot with the camera. My final program doesn't have to be HD. Mainly for the web and a DVD. I figured it makes more sense to edit in regular NTSC DV mode so I guess I have to convert the HD to DV. This is where I'by Paul C - Café LA Re: easy ouput to DVD - 17 years agoWhen I do use iDVD to make a no-frills, no-menu DVD, I still get one of the menu templates in the project popping up and can't find a way to create a new project without the template. The template-menu thing doesn't seem to show up on the actual DVD, but the template does seem to get processed as the DVD is being burned. Is this normal procedure, or am I missing something? Thanks, PCby Paul C - Café LA Re: Moving media files around - 17 years agoI've spent most of the day organizing media files and folders etc. (With great care.) Just opened up some projects and sequences and nary a hiccup -- just a few reconnects here and there. I am impressed. I was fully expecting major headaches. Thanks for the tips, and especially this last one about avoiding the "Chinese box" effect. Paul C.by Paul C - Café LA Re: Moving media files around - 17 years agoThanks for the tips. My biggest media file organizing problem seems to be with capturing at different times. I keep getting capture files within project files within capture files ... with multiple audio and video render folders as well. It's these multiple folders within the same project that I want to consolidate. Paulby Paul C - Café LA Re: Moving media files around - 17 years agoSounds good. (I'm relatively new switching from Premiere (PC) to a Mac so now I'm getting a better handle on workflow etc., and I've started out with a very large project -- 10 or so safety videos using footage from 5 or 6 sites.) In my quest to organize, is there a problem with moving some FPC project files from my main internal (system) hard drive to my internal video drive? I guess I wouldby Paul C - Café LA Moving media files around - 17 years agoHi, I've got media files on 2 hard drives (internal and firewire) and want to organize and consolidate some folders. (Big project, still in progress, many sequences, multiple use of clips etc.) Am I asking for trouble if I start moving the media files around? (I would do it manually.) When I open up the project and various sequences, I'm hoping all I have to do is reconnect the media. Wishfulby Paul C - Café LA Re: Corrupted sequence? - 17 years agoI just discovered if I "reconnect the media" with the wonky clips, it seems to fix things.by Paul C - Café LA Corrupted sequence? - 17 years agoI have a standard DV project with many sequences. Many clips are used in more than one sequence. All the sequences play fine in the timeline, except for one. In some spots, I get just black while the audio is fine. In other spots, I get entirely different clips showing up on the external monitor than are actually in the timeline. If I double click on one of the troubled clips, it plays fine iby Paul C - Café LA Additional title templates? - 17 years agoHi, Is there a third-party source or plug-in thing that offers more titling templates similar to those in LiveType? (The full-screen motion templates, not just the type effects etc.) I have Motion but just don't have the time right now to learn another application -- looking for something not much more complicated than those templates in Livetype. Many thanks, PCby Paul C - Café LA Re: Locating lost sequence - 17 years agoThanks for the "apple f" search tip. I never knew it existed. The missing sequence icon was hidden behind another sequence icon in the bin. I'm not as disorganized as I thought. Funny though, when I pasted the sequence into my larger sequence, it had a yellow bar uptop and had to be rendered, and I think all the settings are the same. Thanks again, P.by Paul C - Café LA Locating lost sequence - 17 years agoHi, I have a project with many bins and sequences. Right now I have a certain sequence open in the timeline, but I can't find the actual sequence icon or file in the midst of all my different bins. If I ever close the tab in the timeline I'm afraid I won't be able to find this sequence again. Any tips on finding the original "sequence" icon amongst my bins in the browser? Asby Paul C - Café LA Flip4Mac tip for jagged stills - 17 years agoI ran into something recently using Flip4Mac that might be of use to someone, somewhere, sometime. I did a project in FCP using stills and video. I had to output at high quality WMV file for use in a Power Point presentation shown big with an LCD projector. My stills looked sharp in FCP on broadcast monitor, but when I used Flip4Mac to convert to my WMV file, the stills came out looking like cby Paul C - Café LA Re: audio synch head scratcher - 17 years agoThanks for the confirmation. I could swear that everything played in sync though, up until today.by Paul C - Café LA audio synch head scratcher - 17 years agoHi, A few weeks back I switched my speaker setup around to take advantage of some better-quality speakers. I plugged them into my G5 rather than my Mackie mixer. (They only have a mini-jack right now). So in FCP I set the audio output to "built in audio" and all was in synch, as well as with Firewire-out for going to tape etc. (Basic DV, never had a problem. I've got a couple of titles over a few layers of video with various filters and motion. When I want to reposition the titles in the canvas, it's very very slow going and very clunky -- the slowest I've seen anything move around to date. It seems that Livetype titles also take a fair bit of rendering time oby Paul C - Café LA Re: storage solution - 17 years agoJude, How often would you recommend this refresh of an external drive used for storage? And what do you do exactly. Just turn it off and on? thanks... Paulby Paul C - Café LA Re: Audio keyframe fade too short? - 17 years agoYou guys have hit the nail on the head here. The reason FCP's fadeouts seem a bit abrupt to me is probably from Premiere experience, where it's linear and a (seemingly) more natural fadeout. I guess in FCP I'll just do like Derek does with a an extra keyframe to smooth things out. Many thanks for the help. Paulby Paul C - Café LA Audio keyframe fade too short? - 17 years agoHi, Is there a setting preference for the clip-end fadeout on audio keyframes? I find that the curved little line at the fadeout drops off too quickly. Can that be adjusted so the audio fades more gradually?
