Re: Suggestions/filters for creating a 'scoreboard' look? - 14 years agoThanks, guys! I was completely over-thinking this, and digging into my font library never occurred to me as a solution. That little touch of adding a "bloom" effect is great. Thanks again, it's appreciated!by jwilliam - Café LA Suggestions/filters for creating a 'scoreboard' look? - 14 years agoI'm working on a quickie parody video with some shots of an electronic sign outside a stadium. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a cheap way to make text look like that electronic scoreboard style look?by jwilliam - Café LA Replicating a first-generation chyron look - 14 years agoAnybody have any suggestions for how to create the really bad looking titles that sports broadcasters used to use back in the early 70's? If you watch football game footage from back in the Howard Cosell days, the titles were this garish yellow, low-resolution, and seem to hover independently from the background. I'm working on a football parody piece, and want to get that old, 1970's title feby jwilliam - Café LA Re: Motion tutorial missing - how would you do this? - 14 years agoThanks, Mark. That shatter effect is a little more involved than my original thinking, but it's not out of reach. Except that it uses Adobe's discontinued "ImageReady" to create the image sequence. Does Photoshop have that "divide and slice" capability, do you know? Great list of links & tutorials you have! I really appreciate it. Jeffby jwilliam - Motion Motion tutorial missing - how would you do this? - 14 years agoSo this link promises a cool looking tutorial of video swivelling in 3D and breaking apart into a bunch of boxes. But when you follow through the link is missing. I'm up for a challenge, and have tried to think my way through how to replicate this effect. In theory, how would one build an effect like this? Would you: Use a replicator on a white square and fill up the screen with iby jwilliam - Motion Re: Burning multiple DVDs with DVD Studio 2? Or copying with another utility? - 14 years agoOops... should have probably thrown this into the DVD Studio Pro forum. Long day, bleary eyes, you all know the drill. But the second question maybe qualifies for this forum. Good DVD copying software, anyone?by jwilliam - DVD Studio Pro Burning multiple DVDs with DVD Studio 2? Or copying with another utility? - 14 years agoI'm working at a client who has DVD Studio Pro version 2, I think. It might be 3, not sure... don't have it in front of me, but it's much older than v.4. With older versions of Studio Pro, is there a way to burn multiple copies once the program goes through the encoding process? I have to create 6 approval copies (and yes, that's another nightmare), and it would be tremendous to not take all dby jwilliam - DVD Studio Pro Re: P2 workflow - 14 years agoHey Dan - That Ken Stone article has pretty much every answer I was looking for! Thanks all! Jeffby jwilliam - Café LA P2 workflow - 14 years agoI'm getting into a job that's shooting on the Panasonic HVX200. The cool thing is that I'm going to be on-set with a mobile workstation going over the dailies while the shooting is going on. A first for me, and I'm pretty excited about that. Question is: what's a good workflow for working with the P2 cards? Surprisingly, there aren't a lot of threads about using them. Anyone know why? Once it happens, every object I click behaves the same way (turning the pointer to the hand tool) until I quit and restart. Is the object glitched somehow? Ever. These are not good drives to carry back and forth from one facility to another. Keep it stationary, well ventilated, and thoroughly backed up, and you'll be at less risk of failure. Is the process the same for FCP5 as for FCP 6?by jwilliam - Café LA Re: Still no full screen playback... time to trash the preferences? - 14 years agoYeah, I'm 99% sure that I do... When "external frames - view all" is selected, I get a full-screen view of the frame that the playhead is parked on, but the video won't roll when I play. Doesn't matter if I select "view - digital cinema desktop display" or "full screen" or "raw", it all gives the same result. The thread that started the troubleshooting iby jwilliam - Café LA Still no full screen playback... time to trash the preferences? - 14 years agoSo I've been wrestling with a sudden lack of full-screen playback. All the idiot checking steps haven't helped, and I'm stuck with frozen video on my full-screen playback and normal audio playback. Is this the kind of thing that preference-trashing might clear up? And the FAQ has a link to preference trashing for FCP 5, is the process similiar for FCP 6?by jwilliam - Café LA Re: Can someone idiot check me on full-screen playback? - 14 years agoNope, not multi-cam. The reason I feel so daft is that it has worked flawlessly since I got my system running many months ago. The new element was the PD-150 connected via firewire (which - for another post entirely - was connected to a Slingbox and did a fantastic job of streaming an edit to my far away client in real time, no exporting, uploading, or downloading needed!). Under my Audio/Video settings, I switched video playback to NTSC firewire device to send picture out to a camera. Then I switched it back to "Digital Cinema desktop preview - full screen", and now when I switch to full-screen mode, I just get the full screen still frame of the video I parked on, and rolling audio.by jwilliam - Café LA Cumulatively building a mask - 14 years agoI know there's a clever way to do this, but I'm stumped at the moment. I want to use the "future data stream" graphic from the content/gauges menu to build a transition. The graphic is a nice, overlapping stream of white rectangular boxes. I'd love to have this graphic running, but on the left half of the screen, let the graphic start remaining on screen so that after 30-40 frames, tby jwilliam - Motion Re: OT - help configuring AirPort Extreme - 14 years agoFor those still wondering how this all turned out... Every time I go through the initialization process, and it hangs, I have to do the 'hard reset' where you hold the button down for 10 seconds to restore factory default. Soon as I do that, the AirPort Utility will find the AirPort Express without a problem, and then I repeat the steps above - find network, connect, and *poof*, suddenly the AirPby jwilliam - Café LA OT - help configuring AirPort Extreme - 14 years agoHey - if anyone out there has any experience with the AirPort, I'd appreciate some troubleshooting advice! I just picked one up and have spent two hours trying to get it connected without any success. There's nothing like the failure of a supposedly plug-and-play piece of electronics to humble a man. The backstory is that my favorite - but grossly technically inept - client had their tech guy install Final Cut 6 way back when they bought it. I'm guessing that my options are either: a) new video card, or b) some sort of firewire to RCA converter that I'm not aware of.
