Re: HD DVD and Player - 12 years agoHD DVD is a dead format. It has been replaced by Blu-ray discs, which can be burned by Compressor, albeit with far less customization than DVDSP offers. If you want extra control when burning Blu-ray discs I would recommend Adobe Encore.by Jon Chappell - DVD Studio Pro Re: Log and transfer vs Pro Res compressor - 12 years agoThere's a plugin here: Or alternatively you could use the XDCAM Transfer tool.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Log and transfer vs Pro Res compressor - 12 years agoWhen you Log and Transfer it automatically transcodes to ProRes so there's no difference. However, you may prefer to use Compressor (if it is capable of reading the XDCAM files) to make use of clusters for faster processing speed and any additional post-processing you may wish to add to the files such as watermarks. I don't know what they're planning but I do know that their forum has been inundated with Mac users posting bug reports and feature requests, so I hope they've been listening.by Jon Chappell - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: How to empty FCP cache to trash? - 12 years agoWe make an app, Housekeeper, that trashes the cache for you. I've seen weird issues like this before caused by corrupt prefs.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Best Transcription software - 12 years agoYouTube's transcriber is laughable at best. It's very hard to do, even for a company as big as Google.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Am looking for a thread or an article telling me what I would miss from FCP if I go to Premiere - 12 years agoI wrote a bit about this topic last year: I think what you will miss from FCP depends on your workflow. If you're used to cutting music videos with lots of multicam angles, you'll be out of luck with Premiere because it only supports 4 angles. I personally haven't had any major complaints about the feature set but I have found that it feels less solid and stable than Avid or FCP. None of the features of FCPX would have mattered if Apple had said FCP 7 was still supported and FCPX was a work in progress that would eventually replace it long-term.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: AE & Premiere to FCP / Apple Motion - 12 years agoThe Premiere project can be transferred by exporting as a Final Cut Pro XML file. Not all effects are supported - here is a list of effects that will be translated: Motion is missing a lot of features from After Effects and it will be much harder to bring it across. So you could target it at the TV industry by having all of the GPU acceleration of the full version (that is Smoke's selling point after all) but limit it to HD output. If you want 2K or 4K, you have to buy the full version.
