Drop Frame

From time to time I get a message that says frames were dropped during playback - when laying off this causes an issue...does anyone have any insight as to what might be the problem, or any work-around solutions?

We're running a G-5
Final Cut Pro V. 4.5

There's quite a number of things that can cause that.

No overlapping windows, etc.

A couple of tips on reducing the load on the computer:

1. Turn off all thumbnails.
2. Turn off audio waveforms in the timeline. Those things seriously tax playback capabilities.
3. Reduce the size of the image in the Viewer and Canvas.

#1 Cause? Slow drives. FireWire drives cause more dropped frame issues than anything else.

You don't want to drop frames? Use a separate internal SATA Drive for all of your media.
